“War Is Inevitable” | Tobias Ellwood MP Argues The Need For National Service

The Tory party have announced plans to reintroduce twelve months of mandatory national service if they win the upcoming general election.
Under the proposal, 18-year-olds would have the option to apply for one of 30,000 full-time military placements or participate in community service by volunteering one weekend a month.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that reinstating compulsory service across the UK would revive the "national spirit" seen during the pandemic.
Labour oppose the plans, which are expected to cost around £2.5 billion, labeling them as "desperate" and "unfunded."
The Conservatives aim to initiate a pilot program in September 2025, with further details to be determined by a Royal Commission.
The military placements would provide young people with training in areas such as cyber security, logistics, procurement, and civil response operations.
Non-military volunteering would involve 25 days of service with organisations such as the fire service, the police, and the NHS.

Because despite whatever the government is guilty of or not its the people who will suffer if war comes to the UK. And it looks increasingly likley that it will. We have to get ready to defend ourselves and hope that it never happens. We have as a nation become weak gentle and undisciplined. Being gentle isnt necessarially a bad thing of course but being weak and undisicplined certainly is. Would you rather we just left the next generation in a position whereby they have no preparation or idea how to defend themselves? But I do agree that the ruling class have played far too many games with the people.

Hi, come to this conclusion as well. We need a far bigger well equipped full time standing Military, Army, Navy & Airforce. They also need a TA ready to step up should a war occur and back fill the Military. Now on top of this if you are talking about conscription you need a trained pool to pull upon, this is when national service in the Armed forces sets this up, not service with Police or RNLI. Throughout history, from the servitude of the serfs through the Press Gangs of the Middle Ages and beyond, to the slaughter of WW1 and the National Services of the mid 20th century; it’s always the common man paying for the incompetence of Royalty and Governments. Convenient cannon fodder, to be cast aside once the fighting is over. It’s a story that has repeated itself for over 1000 years. Why should our young be held in servitude against their choice. Give them Apprenticeships and training in skills we need as a country, to improve our manufacturing capabilities again and regain our position in the world as a producer of quality goods and services.

Ukraine was about to join the EU and was integrating their military in order to qualify for NATO membership, slipping out of Russia's orbit from early 2014. That is why Russia invaded, among other cultural reasons and domestic political issues. So it is our war because we are facing an increasingly aggressive and cornered Russia, an imperialist aggressive and expansionist China, and an aggressive and unstable Iran that is about to get nukes, with North Korea becoming increasingly emboldened. We and our allies are just as threatened as Ukraine existentially because if we show weakness, which we have been exclusively doing, it will embolden our enemies and lead to war. If you want peace, prepare for war! we must look strong and support our allies and potential allies against authoritarian aggression to preserve our peace. Not doing that was the mistake we made in the 1930s against Hitler, and how did that work out. It is a trend that is true throughout history and across the globe.

Also, what do you think it shows the Russians, Chinese, Iranians, and North Koreans, or other countries who would ally with us against our enemies, other than weakness and untrustworthiness if we were to abandon Ukraine who would be our ally? In 1938 we did not act when Nazi Germany enacted the Anschluss wich we allowed, emboldening Hitler who then occupied the Sudetenland. we did nothing because the Checz were not our ally, but were looking to us for assurance. we abandoned them which only emboldened Hitler to invade Poland who had a direct guarantee of defence and independence from us as our ally. So all our young men have to sign up for military. That then leaves all the boat people to do whatv they like. How about telling all them that come on boats and in the back of trailers.If you sign up for three years you will get asylum but you have to sign up. May be it might be better than the African crap.Maybe just maybe tey will stop coming.
