@@attiepollard7847 haven’t seen ID2 so basing this on first film knowledge but it would be interesting to see how the alien ships shields respond to Asgard plasma beams. Plus considering how the mothership was destroyed by a single nuke from within, beaming a nuke onboard would be instant death for them if their shields drop and with 5 Daedalus type ships swarming it with beams, rail-guns and missiles it will drop eventually. Aliens have an advantage in fighters but drones launched from Atlantis (if it’s still on Earth) should do well against them and the larger ships given their shield piercing capability.

Sure, it was of meh quality but better than nothing. I even shared it with the ships TV station so the crew could have a new release to watch instead of the usual rotation of watching Full Metal Jacket and Friday.

When I went as an engineer contractor to Iraq in 2005 I brought a selection of DVDs and a player with me. The next day, I see a bunch of just dog tired soldiers at their barracks where I was checking a router. After the movie came on 6 times the other day, I realized the original plot of the Harvesters was far better than their motives in ID4-2. In the original movie, they were after the entire planet, colonizers who basically wrecked the planet, bleeding it dry of everything, then moving on, that's why they wanted an Earth like planet because they were out to live here even if it was only temporarily. In the second movie, they wanted to steal Earth's core which makes no since whatsoever. All the materials in the core can be found in space far easier, and cheaper, and even if that is what they wanted, with their shields they could have landed one ship, got the core and left. It would have taken nearly half as long and required none of the vulnerabilities a full scale, long term assault opened them up too.

I am not defending ID4-2, but perhaps the purpose of stealing the molten core of Earth was to make the planet useless for maintaining life in a way of revenge for the 1996 mothership being destroyed?
@yaboidre5672
@yaboidre5672 7 ай бұрын
The intention of bleeding the planet dry was to kill all intelligent life on the planet to stop any form of resistance. The real goal is whatever resources the planet has. In the first movie, we as humans are of course the dominant species; and we also gathered in mostly large metropolitan areas. That's the bleeding-them-out-dry tactic the aliens are using - killing an 'invasive' species inside their own hive. In the second movie, the aliens actually multiplied this attack by a billion. Their goals are no different, just executed with more efficient methods. The aliens actually went for ALL LIFE on earth this time - using anti-gravity weapons to rip apart whatever existed on the planet's surface, to yes, extracting the planet's core. We humans of course call this planet home, so the aliens decided to do the whole planet in a single attack the same way they did the big cities dozens of times. Now if you still insist that end goals for the aliens are different in the second movie, its possible Whitmore's speech was taken as a declaration of war (which can be presumed at the start of Resurgence). So if this is true, the aliens may have been hellbent on destroying humanity, and that's why they sent a ship that could rip apart a planet's crust and extract its core at the same time. Solid argument if you ask me.

It’s funny but I was thinking about the sequel, and when I remembered Alternate History Hub’s take on what the aftermath would be of this film, it got me thinking on how the sequel could have been done. Making a much different film than the original, but also creating something a little more realistic and darker. In the film it states that three billion people died and as the world population was around five billion in the 90’s, give or take, so three fifths of the global population was wiped out, and according to the official website 108 cities were destroyed. The aftermath of the initial invasion would have been not so much grandiose victory but rather relief for having just survived, but it would also be short lived. With so much of the population gone the economy would be ripped apart, what’s left of government would have a huge pile of issues. There would be millions wounded, sick, homeless, and orphaned, all who need help that the authorities would simply lack the resources to provide, and global trade would’ve frozen dead. At best society would come to a standstill, at worst it would suffer a total collapse, and everything would be about survival. We’re talking a post-apocalyptic scenario here but not to the same level as the Walking Dead. Humanity would be less united than ever before, unlike in the canon sequel. The United States would still exist in theory, but in practice it would be more independent states governing themselves and trading and maybe even fighting each other for resources. In urban centers across the globe riots would break out over supplies. Rural areas would be the most stable, but the large cities that are left would be dens of corruption and chaos, and with no means to efficiently police them criminal organizations would explode out of control. Then there’s the issue of the alien survivors from the initial attack, with their mother ship gone, which was their whole civilization, the invaders left would be desperate. Realizing that their only hope would be to make our planet theirs, colonizing earth rather than harvesting it would become their goal. Only this time they would lack the means to come in and kick ass, and the resulting conflict would be fought between the remnants of two civilizations, each in a frantic and much more equal struggle for survival, with both having as much to lose as the other. So, the sequel in this scenario would be a much more up-close, down, and dirty battle that would have none of the city destroying spectacle of the first film, and a more claustrophobic, gritty, and frightening story.
