Since I was a kid my favorite movie was Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds. It was terrifying to me but I loved it. I've been working on this idea in my free time for a few days now for a free game based closely on the movie where you can be either the aliens or the humans. This is the first draft of what I imagine the game to kind of be. I have a lot of cool ideas I still plan to do.
My idea is to create a game where you can control both the massive tripod and wreak havoc, death and destruction on everything around you, or be a human and try to outrun and stay out of sight of the aliens as they seek and destroy life around the map. Its only my third day working on this but my next step is rigging and animating the tripods which Ill probably end up doing my self. Thanks for checking it out!

Because "War of the Worlds" was one of my favorite movies, this scene is so important to the terror of the concept. There were little details, like the legs coming out of the ground first to pull the machine out of the ground. That part is the first, "What is this?" moment, before you even see the whole tripod. Kind of like the tip of the iceberg. Also the fluid nature of the tripod and how it's less robotic and more animal-like in its characteristics. The way the tripod braces itself before the first horn sound and lets off some smoke and fluid. I do intensely appreciate the whole concept, the idea gives me such a rush of adrenaline. I really do hope this game captures that terrifying feeling.

@@waroftheworldsgame9026 the sound is very immersive compared to other games these days where a gunshot sounds like popping a Bubble wrap from 5yrd away,you can actually hear the enemy coming from over 50m way more realistic bc you can hear people have conversations way down the block in reality

This is exactly what i was looking for, cannot wait to see this as a fully complete game. Would be cool af to play in a scene similar to where everyone is trying to get on the ferry and it shows the tripod in the background up on the hill

This looks awesome. I loved the movie since it came out and been on a kick of watching it lately. Would be cool to see the Alien attack from other peoples points of view like some of Ray's friends you wonder if they survived or not.

I watched and listened to this and realised that the sound was straight from Spielberg's movie. You hear everything, even down to the car being filpped over and hitting the ground, knocking someone over!

Jesus Christ man, from 6 years i dreamed about war of the worlds game, something like Outlast 2, MW2 and Resistance mix. Long, brutal, hopeless signleplayer Campaing from the perspective of US ranger. I even create drawings of different types of Tripods and based on their design other machines. And when I almost forgot about all of that this film randomly pops-out in recomendation. Thank you for your work, sub for sure!

I heard of the game and immediately put it onto my list because of how detailed it is. The scary horn from the tripods send shivers down my spine. I'm excited to play the game when it comes out. P.S. I would really like to join the discord but the invite doesn't work.

Adding the original sounds from the movie was a nice touch. I know this is a work in progress, and it looks fantastic, but as positive feedback, I'd say it would be even scarrier if the tripod was chasing the player's character. The atmosphere really, and the dark sky really adds to the horror. Not seeing where the alien portable land extermination and harvesting unit, or APLEHU, is at any moment.

This is badass a few notes tho: A-the players footsteps are loud and distracting and B, the sound of the car being thrown is cool but there's no car being thrown at you. Other than that, this game looks fucking awesome

Imagine if there was an actual game tie in for the movie made around the same time it was being filmed. And having a release on the Xbox, PS2 and GameCube either when it came out in theaters or after likely when it was being released on DVD.
