For those that are confused by why I'm comparing this to Spielberg's Movie, the reason why is because the visuals in that film still look really good 20 years later, even though 05 is high budget, 20 years in technology advancement and how good CGI gets you'd think a low budget movie would be able to surpass a 20 year old movie's visuals, which this new movie sadly does not by the looks of it. I hope I'm wrong when it releases

It has an Attack the Block vibe to it. It's filmed in my hometown. Woking which is the actual town featured in the book. They have been filming all around the local area. The film looks low budget but fun.

The tripods design remind me of the sentinels from the matrix films, and I do like those kind of designs and the heat ray effect is well done. I like the burning crispness of bodies rather than complete incineration. Thank you for coming to my ted talk

Maybe one day we will get a really accurate war of the worlds movie that accurately represents the books tripods but still the tripods from 05 are iconic

I like the tripod designs in the 2023 the attack version they look KINDA accurate to the description of the tripods in the original novel I have NOT read the book in a long time but if I remember correctly it was colored silver, tentacles hanging from the side, a heat ray in the front and a basket or cage on the back (I could not see the basket or cage on this version though unless its hidden) I cannot wait to see this as I will never EVER get enough of the war of the worlds franchise

All it needs to beat Spielberg's movie is the Thunder Child, nobody else has ever put that onto film and it's what everyone wants.

I don't think it'll be great tbh because wotw has never been about the story and instead has been all about the Tripods which is shown in every iteration of wotw as they never go into the backstory of these Tripods, as they should because the main selling point for me on wotw are the amazing scenes and visuals able to display the horror and ferocity of the Tripods which is why the 2005 movie is so loved despite it's lacking story because it's brilliantly directed with amazing sound design and an amazing Tripod design aswell but since this movie is gonna be low budget, the visuals just won't be there.

I was excited to take my grandson who is obsessed with war of worlds. But it's a limited release. VERY LIMITED release. I can't find it playing anywhere. Very disappointing. Today is the release date. I guess there must be one theater somewhere on earth showing it.

despite it's low budget i think this will be more faithful to the book than any adaptation of the novel , we have the Cylinders coming down from Mars , the Tripods are awesome and scary as supposed to , we got the red weed , we'll probably have the Artillery Man as well , as there's the Curate already , we'll probably see Ogilvy as well characters from the book itself , finally the story takes place in England like the original story , overall i think this will be a good film , considering this will have more traits to the book than any other adaptation i don't think it should be compared to the Spielberg film at all

It's a hit or miss with War of the Worlds games and movies. But hey, we love War of the Worlds, and we'll give anything a chance, even if it's just once. (Looking at you BBC)

No Shields! True to the book. Nice! Technology VS better Technology. Some of the cgi is a bit too fast or clunky. But I like it.

The tripods looked pretty good, but I found the film disappointing, I was expecting more after seeing the exciting trailer. The 1953 movie will always be my favourite, even though they're not tripods, and the Martians inside them were actually quite cute.

The Spielberg's WotWs is a classic that has solidified it's position as everyone's favorite. Not even Slielberg himself would ever be able make another one to surpass the original. No one can! Because the original is always better. That's just human nature xD

i feel like there isn’t many true interpretations of the book out there. i mean sure, there are some that are about as close as you get but something about the heat ray always makes me go “aww.” the original book i’m pretty sure was just a literal heat ray. you couldn’t see anything but the hazy heat from the beam and people would combust into flames. seems more terrifying in the book.

I personally don't think this will age well like the 05 movie but then again it's just a low budget film so I'm not expecting much here, just happy to see a new WOTW movie

There's a lot of WotW comics, could you maybe take a look at that? I'm slowly collecting those, already have some, like the "Scarlett Traces" from 2000AD, "Second Wave & WotW: Investation" comes next. There's also a 3-part Manga of the book, then a graphic novel from Aaron Moran, and an illustrated book from Bitmap Books. There's more, but I don't have all the details now. About that new movie, I'll probably watch it, let's hope it's worth something.

Low budget film or not at least it is set in good ole England like H.G Wells novel, and the aliens come from Mars, like the books. The weirdest part about Spielberg's version is the machines have been hidden away underground for a long time, lol, and nobody knew they left them there, until the aliens show up, firstly why leave them there for hundreds or even thousands of years in the past, but the aliens decide to attack mankind in the 21st century. Just doesn't add up. 😂🤣

This movie must have bombed or something, given that it's August 2023 and I haven't even heard so much as a review for this movie. Edit: also, the 05 movie does have some CGI scenes with the tripods if not all of them because I've seen the "How they made" the movie segment four or five different times when I owned the DVD of the movie back-to-back from the actual movie and one of the scenes shown in that segment was that very scene with the tripods after the Ferry scene. You can even find that segment on KZfaq somewhere and it'll show you everything you need to know.

The tripods in this movie remind me of the Matrix sentinels.

Personally, I doubt it would. The way the Tripod's head snapped and just instantly fired its heatray, didn't give that bio-mechanical feel that Martians had.

Would be cooler if they had the other vehicles the Martians had from the books

I like the 05 tripodes better but the story heres more faithful to the book they came from mars instead of the ground and the pods look good from the side.

There is one War of the Worlds movie that is more like the book. HG Wells War of the Worlds by Pendragon Pictures it was made in 2005 as well. As bad as the effects are I do suggest the original 3 hour movie over the cut 2 hour version that had some improved effects. The 3 hour one is called HG Wells War of the Worlds and the Cut version is called The classic War of the Worlds. Good luck in finding the trailer can't find it anymore. Hopefully its better than the 2 2021 movies from Asylum and now that I think about it Asylum has made 4 not so good War of the Worlds movies. Spielberg's War of the Worlds will always be my favorite I like War of the Worlds Goliath its good to.

I've seen it, and can say it's pretty dire apart from the few special effects scenes (which are all in the trailers, so may as watch that as it's got the only decent bits). it's very poorly done in every respect. It's basically how not to do a war of the worlds. this isn't entirely due to budget. the script is dire too, concentrating for very long portions on the 3 juvenile stereotypical characters doing very little apart from expositioning the plot, whilst unnecessarily spending time focusing on their characters as they either sulk or bait each other like kids. anyone who knows the War of the Worlds knows the strength of the story is the Martian tripods and the fall and route of the human race, and how previously formidable militaries are found useless. (in this film the Martians aren't scary, they get taken down by attack helicopters and tanks.

what i loved about war of the worlds, amongst other things, is that It felt like it was happening, and that i was there with them, experiencing that hell of a situation along side with them, it felt so detailed and realistic. As a gen Z, I'm going to be pissed if this movie is filled with crappy cringe gen z "humour" this better be serious tones which I worry it wont. 1:30 that animation looks scuffed as hell. the CGI looks so bad that it alone could ruin the experience of the movie.

I saw the Thomas Howell WotW movie from 2005 (different from Tom Cruise's WotW movie of the same title and year) and honestly, that priest had a great redemption arc then he just. Melted. God damn

Why does he keep comparing it to the 05 version? Yes there are some similarities between this film and the 05 version, but that’s just what happens when two movies are adapting the same book.

The cgi in the new war of the worlds is awful compared to the old one/s. And the story doesn’t look to pleasing. Not trying to be all negative just doesn’t seem like it will be anywhere close to being better.

In my opinion, the tripod design isn't really that appealing. However, the story and plot seems okay. I love the effect from getting zapped by the heat ray, very cool that. I also love that it was set in modern times too. Specially in the UK. I also love how the tripod looks like the sentinel from the matrix xD.

This looks like one of those films where we have 3 hours of talking and 5 minutes of CGI tripods. Badly animated ones. Sorry but I'm really too cynical for this, WotW media has let me down far too much over the years

The trouble with thee BBC version? Too PC, wasn't true to the book, borrowed from the Spielberg version and it got feminised along the way.

you can not compare Steven Spielberg s war of the worlds, plus the original version with Gene Barry. This is now taking it too far. The original version is far more believable then this copy. Just trying another continuation which usually equals are not as good as original films. Listen to George Wells original radio broadcast of the war of the worlds. This seems stupid.

Just to let you know I believe War of the Worlds(2005) was trash. There are a hand full of ratings out for the new one and it isn't looking good. Sense I believe 2005 was so crappy I have hope for this. I read some of the reviews and it sounds like they wanted the people on the screen to be a major part of the action.... Kinda like they don't know the source material. Thinking about it, War of the Worlds staying close to the material would never be a great movie or show. They could butcher the hell out of it and have the aliens lose the first battle season/movie one then follow up better safety/health procedures(hazmat suits, etc) for season 2. Or a following generation(with help) comes back with better immune systems. A combination of the 2 would most likely be best. Aliens claim an area because it was a one way trip and use test tube babies to speed up the reproduction of aliens but suited aliens are going out into the world to get more resources. During the first movie/season they took out all the satellites and did huge amounts of destruction so the hidden base is.... hidden. But trying to find the base is always a goal.
