In the months following Pearl Harbor, the Imperial Japanese Navy conducted operations at sea, threatening British Royal Navy dominance in the area.
The most dangerous moment of the war, and the one which caused me the greatest alarm, was when the Japanese fleet was heading for Ceylon and the naval base there. The capture of Ceylon, the consequent control of the Indian Ocean, and the possibility at the same time of a German conquest of Egypt would have closed the ring and the future would have been black.

March 31, 1942, Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, her forces had overrun Hong Kong, Malaya, Singapore, the Dutch East Indies, and Burma. Now the Imperial Japanese Navy and Army were heating up for an assault on India, the jewel in the British imperial crown.

You never get to use the deck gun in the vanilla game. It's nice that some of the mods have transports that aren't armed.

@@whitewolf-xf9ui I’m referring to Wolfpacks other series, the silent hunter 3 series he has been doing. As for how many ships he has sunk in U-75 I’ve honestly no clue, I’d have to watch through all the vids and the series is yet to finish so only time will tell.

@@tedarcher9120 Not really, the DEI campaign has already ended. O-19 was a serious destroyer of IJN assets when Wolf played the Allied. This is just a continuation of that series. At least as far as some of us are seeing it.

Return of the King! Those lightly escorted merchant/AMC/AV columns don't seem to have radar (iirc the Yugumo type is the only IJN DD with surface radar) so they may be vulnerable to night actions. DDs or CLs with surface radar could serve as spotters for a night time torpedo attack (although manual solutions might be necessary for ships without radar) Maybe a torpedo boat flotilla led by a radar equipped DD could be an effective low-cost base defense force? Fast enough to outrun heavies, small enough to dodge most air attackers, and capable of a large torpedo volley for surprise night actions

look into combining some of the freighter groups into a single larger formation to run buildup materials for port and airfield upgrades. the more long range planes you have, the more likely you'll corner those carriers and BB's to rack up some command points. small clusters of DD's can run patrols near ports if for nothing more than to annoy approaching ships with a Torpedo spread or three. DD's can priority Transports to remove supplies leaving landed troops unsupported and more vulnerable. once Hermes returns, combine her with Indomidable to maximize your carrier strike and go hunting for anything that floats not flying an allied flag. 2 cruisers and 3 DD's for protection against Subs and AA fire support.

Ran the scenario at Akyab through my simulation combat model. There are likely only 500 Troops and 1000 Supplies there. It's the 4 levels of fortification and having more supplies than troops that make it look really bad. With the current level of troops you dropped off, they'll hold out 1-4 weeks (specifically 6-29 days with the daily rollover at Noon each game calendar day) before being destroyed. Adding supplies (if you can squeeze them out from someplace) would be more useful than more troops in the short term. The upside would be you'd destroy between 25-80% of the IJN supply in that location with the current state of affairs.

O-19 is a veteran submarine that might pull off a few unpleasant surprises for the Japanese forces - she did make a good start on that merchant ship she caught with her deck gun! She certainly did the job in the DEI !

Wolf, with your comparatively limited resources, you may want to consider tracking and getting more reports on convoys before striking. You’re using up a lot of your invaluable air assets without having an idea as to where convoys may be headed or what they consist of.

I do find sometimes line ahead formation / column worths better for level bombing, otherwise there bombs tend to bracket more often.

I like how that merchant never changes speed & heading. They see a sub surface, turn towards them, and charge in at speed for 7 minutes, and just... don't do anything about it until you've already scored like 5 hits. In-universe (since this is your first sub kill behind enemy lines in this campaign), I imagine they were just totally unprepared for this not being completely Japanese-controlled waters, and assumed you were a friendly. (Or they just weren't looking, for the same reasons.)

We can only imagine what it would be like in this situation, either in reality or in the game, to have Alliance Z, i.e. Prince of Wales and Repulse... Many surface attacks against the enemy would be much easier.

My guy is trying to level bomb ships without being parallel with the line of travel. I get you can't get parallel every time, but aiming down the long part rather than the wide part would generate more chances of hits.

I will say, my biggest issue with these mods is that you give the AI too much, and I know half of it is that you have to give them enough, but, I do think they need to revert some of the CP changes to sinking ships to make it slightly better in theater for any allied player. Although to lose two fleet carriers and a litany of other ships would have been catastrophic in real life for the Japanese.

Okay Wolfpack from the situation you're in i see 2 main strategies going forward both have potential risks but both may be your best option. 1 you can continue what you're doing and keep going on the attack doing this will keep the Japanese AI guessing and might give you an advantage and capturing the bases and taking away from their resources but because of their Superior numbers and firepower this runs the risk of you getting a lot of your forces simultaneously cut off. 2 you can instead focus on defending and building up your forces this means when you are ready to take the fight to the Japanese you're better equipped and more likely to hold your ground the big risk with this however is allowing the Japanese to build up their own strength even greater and there may be a chance they'll start attacking your bases when you're not in any position to fight back.

I know you consider Cocanada to be a low priority defence considering it's only a level 1 port and level 0 airfield, but I think it should be a priority after Trincomolee for the political considerations of having the RAJ itself under direct invasion.

I was so hoping to see O-19 again, good call Wolfpack! Enjoying the series so far, you handle the defensive role really well. Edit: Actually, given the two-pronged assault the enemy pulled, and you bringing O-19 into the fray, any chance you might pull in some Gatos for patrolling wolfpack action? It'd be funny to see her alongside USS Cod. Just a thought though, I know you like surface actions better.

In reality the Japanese were very strong early on but after 43 they started to stall and by 44 it was all but over. This is why Japan is so strong and no matter what you do it does little to turn the tide.

Nope, they're part of the base game. To place them, hold your cursor over the desired location and press the "P" key. You can name them or leave them blank, and you can change their name at any time by clicking on them and editing the title. To remove them, click on the mark you want to get rid of and hit the REMOVE button that will pop up next to the name editing box.

You keep making the same mistakes. Don't fight on several fronts at the same time. Build strong level 5 bases from which you will always have air support. You always need to have more supplies than soldiers, then you will defeat the enemy faster.
