My controls are regular mouse aim mode, so I can just use my mouse for normal flying. But when I use keyboard input for pulling pitch or using rudder it overwrites any mouse input that would make the plane steer. Now the mouse can only be used to look around, AS LONG as you keep pressing the pitch or rudder keys.

@@Zetsuubou how to do that ? in my case the mouse is always in aim mode so even when I am pressing keys it does not overwrites the mouse

Joysticks are only really useful if you want to fly simulator battles and or in some extreme edge cases related to tournaments, but this is far beyond anything a beginner would need to know / do. If you play Arcade or Realistic, then mouse and keyboard will serve you far better, than a joystick.

Sounds good! I noticed your use of combat flaps in the hard turns. That sure makes sense too. I've been gaming a long time but never got around to getting good at a dogfight. Watching your vids, It looks like you pay attention to the enemy's wings. (along with 9 other things) Well, maybe I can hold my own and hope it doesn't take a year of practice lol!

@@selgrin Regarding flaps: The base keybind "Toggle Flaps" only allows you to use combat (easily). Search for "Flaps Down" and "Flaps Up" and bind these to toggle through all available settings (Combat, Takeoff, Landing - Not all planes have all settings though) I have them bound to my mouse wheel; scrolling up is flaps down and scrolling down is flaps up. Just need to be wary of accidentally deploying them at high speeds (only applies to RB, in AB they can't rip) There is a million more things you have to "watch" out for or just know. When you deploy flaps you essentially trade speed for a tighter turn radius, that is until you are "out" of speed and your enemy can just keep looping / flying circles to catch up. In a loop you should deploy flaps at the very top of the loop, until you hit the bottom of the loop, retract them and then only start deploying them again at the top....and so on. You can also manipulate your turn by playing around with the amount of thrust you use. Again, in a loop you would want to use WEP during peak -> bottom and then no WEP just 100% during bottom -> peak. There are deviations to this and its really just something I liked doing during the time I actively played Arcade and also dueled. The more your enemy knows and is aware of what you do the harder it will end up for you to lead the fight and not be lead on. If you wanna go further than that you should start learning about angular advantages, one circle flow, two circle flow and so on. I am not extremely good at dueling and much less so at explaining it in a way that technicalities are properly explained, so I will just leave it at this xD...

*Maybe* ? From my limited experimenting with a joystick you need to use a separate control template, which should still allow a keyboard, but I am not sure about the mouse. If you already have the equipment then try it out, but if not...yeah don't bother. I hope this helped you.

Yo, took me a minute to reply: First plane: P-39-Q-5 (00:00 - 00:28) Though all P-39s and the P-400 work well for rudderturning. Second plane: BF 109 G2/trop (01:26 - 03:15) All of the BF 109s are good at rudderturning. Third plane: J2M2 (03:17 - 04:03)

Arcade - Rudder turning only works in Arcade. In Realistic you will need your elevator and then accentuate your flight path in with the rudder occasionally.

I didn't mention this in the video, but some planes can rudder turn better than others and some planes you are best off not to even try it. US planes, especially the Mustangs and Corsairs are absolute garbage at rudder turning. The P-47s work, P-39, 400, 63 and a couple others / (and some of the premiums). 109s are one of the best at this, Yaks are also decent, La line is okay, Spitfire is "okay", just don't force a fight against experienced 109s. Ki-61 (all variants), Ki-44, J2M2, J21, some of the (early) french planes (V.G 33C-1 for example). Italy is also a bit wonky unfortunately; they were much better at it on release. Edit: Should be obvious - But this is for AB only (only VERY few planes can do this in RB and its not that effective either).

Makes your plane turn faster because you go up and sideways at the same time. Its a bit hard to explain via text, but its VERY noticeable in an actual duel.

That is why I have my elevator bound to two mouse keys, think they are normally used for browser back / forward in desktop usage.

You don't have to press C necessarily as pressing q / e or one of the pitch keys will overwrite any mouse movement, however once released your ingame reticle will move back to where you are aiming with your mouse. Thats why its important to keep your mouse close to where you wish to stop rudder turning and for example shoot an enemy. Hope this helps :)

Seperate in which way? When you press one of the rudder keys or pitch keys it will automatically overwrite your mouse input which would normally control the plane, but you can now use your mouse to look around you. Hope that answers your question.

While pressing the pitch or rudder axis keys you can look around, because those keys overwrite the mouse steering input and instead use it for the camera.

If I understand your question properly then there is no way to stop the camera to move back to the default position, which makes sense considering that you would want to see where you are flying. You can "counter" this by keeping close to the reticle while you are rudder turning and using your mouse to look around. Once you release the rudder turn keys it will go back to default view but it wont be a big motion. Hope that helps :D And I would like to make such a video, but I am kinda swamped with university at the moment and this type of video takes quite some time ^^

Arcade mode - Test Flight Objective: Quickly change direction of flight 180° Example: Flying level with WEP/100% throttle. 1) I hold down A-key and roll plane 180° then... 2) I hold down S-key and flip the plane direction 90° then... 3) I release S-key and the plane *snaps back to original flight direction. (How do I prevent the plane from *snapping back to original flight direction?)

I am not entirely sure what you mean, if you are speaking of the aiming reticle - No, you cannot remove that. You can change its color and appearance slightly, but not remove it - Not sure why you would either.

Default key bind should be v.

When pitch / yaw is pressed you need to move your mouse on your own in order to move the camera, because the rudder input overwrites the "normal" mouse input that what normally adress for the camera / hit circle movement. Also note that as long as your hit circle is on screen your plane will try to move back to that once rudder keys are released. To combat this move the camera far enough so the circle isn't shown anymore.

On the BF 109 G2/trop I use Stealth exclusively (You can alternatively also use Air Targets for the 20mm (MG 151)) J2M2 I use stealth for the 7mm and Tracers for the 20mm. General info - Most 20mm ammunition tends to "lag" behind 7mm, 50cal or other lower calibres, because of different ballistic characteristics, so I aim further ahead to compensate for that and ensure those 20mm actually reach their target As with everything, this tends to vary per gun, as velocity isnt the same on German or Japanese guns, so you will need to learn it for each individual gun.

Not sure if that is a good idea, as its an axis, so you have two key binds, one for increasing and one for decreasing (thrust). Physically separating these two keys might be a bit awkward to play with, hence I have them on w / s.

You definitely can do that, however being able to offload 2 keys to your mouse comes in very handy when you start dueling. During Arcade duels you'll have to constantly adjust your throttle (known as WEP cycling), so having it put on keys that are easily accessible is a plus. To be fair though, I started in 2013 and I think they didnt even have the advanced option back then so I pretty much made a custom control setup for myself and its nowhere near the simple setup option anymore, neither to the advanced. Pretty much all of my keys are mapped and some even with 3 different ingame actions.

@@Zetsuubou idk im still in tier 1 and play on console with kbm so thats equal to advanced controls on pc i think. i still use default controls for most part so aswd for plane controls and shift/cntrl/mouse wheel for throttle. one question though, i changed space for bombs to B cuz i thought it would interfere with atgms as its the same button. does that happen or can i just change it back?

@@atif1538 From the top of my head I don't think are many or any planes at all that have ATGMs and bombs at the same time which would otherwise lead to dual deployment of those. However if this should come up eventually you should setup weapon system controls to use specific systems for example only MGswithout cannons etc etc. I can / will make a video on that in the future.

They are extra keys on my mouse, normally that would be browser back/forth but I am not sure if they are programmable on every mouse model.

2 extra keys on my mouse which normally would be set up for browser forward / backward but in my case they can also be re-mapped for games. This should work with most mice, but I am not entirely sure.

My config file won't help you much unfortunately, as I have a lot of physical extra keys on my keyboard which I use for ingame stuff. Your game may recognize the keys, but there is no physical way to press them unless you literally have the same keyboard, which I doubt is the keys xD

The plane trying to level out after releasing a/d should be normal, which is why I keep on micro-adjusting constantly when I am rudderturning. Sorry if this doesn't solve your issue, but from reading alone this sounds the most reasonable to me.

@@Zetsuubou Do you always use the rudder to initiate a turn? Or are the times you roll and pull back. I'm also curious how people balance using keyboard maneuvering and using the free camera to look around. how much of it is holding down the C button (or whatever you use bind to the free camera) vs just overriding the mouse look with keyboard steering?

@@Eric-zy6et I "only" use c key when I am flying around in a straight line to be quite honest. Sometimes I'll even go as for as just wiggling a bit with q and e or pitch up/down to get the overriding effect so that I don't have to press c. As for initiating the turn I usually press rudder and roll at the same time, sometimes / especially in duels I'll already roll in one direction before we even pass by each other but this is more of a tournament thing, in randoms this needs to be more flexible because you can do headons.

Yes, this mostly for Arcade, albeit some planes can also rudder turn in RB. However, it is not nearly as efficient in RB.

No worries, the UI just has changed slightly and it got moved / categorized differently. If you are in the controls (aircraft) section, look for Movement, click on it and then select pitch axis - Its the 6th entry from the top. Here is a screenshot to illustrate it -> shorturl.at/gms23

It should be pretty obvious that this is intended for AB. Albeit that you can do it to some extent in RB too with jets at low speed. Other than that stick to elevator in RB and only use both for sharp roll overs.
