12 years in the Army Infantry ( June 2003- January 2016) 4 deployments. Best and worst times of my life. Lost alot of friends overseas and stateside. Counseling,sobriety and my family keeps me going. Take care brother

My son was sent to Baghdad in 2001,2002. Changed him inside and out. Horrible sights and ptsd when he came home. He also was National Guard and sent to train the police over there. My son was a cop before he went, so he was trained in weapons. He had to retire early from flashbacks. Thanks for your service Kevin.

This guy is for real. War is war. I went to Shuaiba port Kuwait, then from there to Arifjan, then to BIAP. It was crazy man! He knows... It's sad and frustrating so many of us commit suicide decades later... there's stuff that lives inside from it. War doesn't come out or let go.

Several reasons... 1, they used methane as a fuel there. 2, everything was literally trashed, 3, sewer systems were blown up in some of the buildings.

It took Kurt Vonnegut took 20 years before he was able write Slaughterhouse-Five... I was Active Duty Wheel Vehicle Mechanic in Tikrit in 2003, Iraqi Freedom, Force XXI.... National Guard IMO had no business being thrown into that mess. Sadr City? Jesus.... I lost a best friend (SGT Juan Carlos Cabral) and his family lost a father and husband, for no reason at all as far as I can tell... Maybe I'll write a book one day myself. Stories are probably the only way we can relate to other people the things we experienced, *so it goes...* Be well fellow soldier and know you are not alone. I feel your pain, acutely, even if no one else can. The best thing we can do is *LIVE,* where others could not. I do not take a single second of my life for granted and haven't for over 20 years...

I live next door to a veteran of the war in Iraq. He is not okay. He is abusive, rude, and unpredictable. He punched my car one day when it was parked in the driveway because one of my trees had grown over his side of the fence. Unfortunately I can't move house at the moment. I never know when or what will make him go crazy. Something so simple as cutting a branch down can escalate into something so full on. I had to block his number, I can't go out the front of my house if he is home. I can't call the police that will make him worse. War is awful. My neighbour went there and moved in next to me and made me his new enemy.

@willsmith39 I'm an Australian. I just put up with it because my neighbour is the way he is because he went to a completely unnecessary war which f...ked him up big time. My nice new car has a dent in it. He does do a heap of horrible things to me that if he wasn't a veteran, I'd call the police for. I don't talk to him anymore or look after his dog when he stays in the mental health ward periodically. I just ignore him now. He is the product of war. He has to live out the rest of his days like he is. I have a wonderful life that I worked VERY hard to achieve. What kind of man tries to bully and abuse a 60 year old single woman? A really badly messed up fellow is the answer to that. He has eased up a bit now.

@@Krinsta1 Damn I feel bad for that guy.. I’m sure he’s pretty damaged. And I am also sorry that YOU have to deal with what you have been dealing with due to your neighbor being so emotionally affected the way he has been. I truly hope things get better for you and him. Here’s a little trick, it could possibly help with your car. Boil some water in a small to medium sized pot. Grab a toilet plunger. Go to your car and pour the hot boiled water on your car where the dent is. You will only need half the pot or you can pour the whole pot. Then immediately pop the plunger 🪠 onto the dent of your car. It should stick, then, pull out your dent as quick as you could. The hot water will soften up the material on your car momentarily. The plunger will pull out the dent. A few minutes later, the dented spot that you pulled out will harden back up and your car should be good to go! I have done this a few times before and you can do it where your car will be completely back to normal. But if it’s a really bad dent, it WILL make it much much better but you may still have a slight line in the spot where the dent was. All depends on the dent.. but hey, give it a shot 😉 good luck

Uncle was a POW, battle of the buldge, WW2, I was very close to him. It took years and years for him to come clean. This is what he said, he said he couldn't get clean. He spoke about it so rarely until the last months of his life. I felt so honored and listened without judgement. Something I held close was that we just can't know in our every day ideal. Our minds can't really process that amount of hell, we just can't. He barely survived and I am so very grateful he did, he lived through things that are difficult for me to conceive. I loved him so much. Kevin, sorry about your Battle Buddy. I appreciate your story, thank you. My son is serving now and I pray he does not get deployed again. God Bless you and your family.

My husband was in for 3 tours in Afghanistan and part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Sometimes i can get him to open up about stuff. Sometimes, it comes out randomly during conversation. I love him dearly. I see how PTSD has affected every part of his life. Im in my Masters for Mental Health Counseling so I can learn how to help him more. I also did it for our son who has Autism.

"Happy Memorial Day" is an oxymoron. There's nothing "happy" about it...except for all those who seem to think it's about barbeques, Memorial Day sales, and the official beginning of summer "fun."
