I really like your channel and video reviews. I was a hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman overall until I had 4 near death accidents as a result of other drivers driving drunk and hitting me. Long story short, I can use a hammock and find them more comfortable that than custom made beds to help my back pain and any bed sores. The WARBONNET RIDGERUNNER with the SPREADER BARS are especially great on my back and overall pain. I’m still 70% to 100% PARALYZED from the chest down but it’s much easier to get in and out of a hammock than trying to get up off the ground if tent camping. The weight isn’t a problem for me, and the hammock in this review that is more like a bed sheet feel is perfect for me. I’ll be 60 years old on June 2, 2021 - 2 weeks from now and am hoping to get the hammock like the one you reviewed - the carbon fiber spreader bars, and the accessories. Would you please tell how to buy one the easiest- the PRICE OF THE COMPLETE PACKAGE DEAL? I would be greatly appreciative for any advice and information on where to buy a Warbonnet Hammock and any accessories I may like. Doctors said I’d be lucky if I lived to be 30. I’m weeks away from doubling their estimates and will never quit trying. Few people have broken their necks in 3 places and lived long. I’ve put in 8924 hours of Physical Therapy and will keep,going. I look forward to taking up Hammocking as a way of enjoying the outdoors. Thanks for your time and advice. Bill Sturman ~

Rob, Thank you for your video. You didn’t mention what I was looking for - but I saw it in the video coverage and may learn more about it when I watch your others. It has to do with that toggle/cord at the head end that the head spreader bar goes though. I hadn’t seen anything about it in WB’s videos (either old or new model), and I couldn’t understand its function. If it was just a pass through for the pole, why did it have a cord, toggle, and knot construction instead of just a simple loop. It seemed to me, that the spreader bar was too close to that head “pocket” - if that pocket was suppose to be for your head with neck support - and the spreader bar would bump my head. A change you didn’t mention, that I think falls near the “major” category, is the suppled spreader bars themselves. In the old style, you had the option of removing a center piece at at the head end, so the head bar was 4 inches shorter. The new bars are also three piece, but the center piece now adds 10 inches. The other two pieces are shorter so the overall length is the same. But that center piece is a double male - so there is no apparent way for the two remaining pieces to come together. WB told me, that putting the “insert” of the center piece in the two outer piece was optional to add stability. That confused me because it seems there is no “optional” about it - you have to put something in those two outer pieces to hold them together. And the “insert” part of the center piece is not designed to be removed - it is pinned to the center piece. So it seems to me, the new RR is not intended to have a “shorter head bar” option. The last difference is apparent if you use a SpinDrift sock. With the old style, the bars fit inside the SpinDrift. This required some padding on the pole points so they wouldn’t punch through the sock because the fabric was tight there. One commercial solution was rubber “bumpers” sold by ArrowHead for a couple bucks (or make your own out of used bicycle inner tube). The new suspension allows the poles to fit outside the spindrift but here’s the … wait for it … rub. The SpinDrift sock is mostly used in the winter. And in the winter, I’m guessing you might want those poles inside the spindrift to minimize their exposure to freezing rain. Also, outside the sock, you can’t use that loop on the head pocket. You can put the bars inside the sock - like they were in the older style - but you absolutely need some protection on those points so they don’t punch through. I’ll watch your other videos and see if that head end pocket and loop are discussed.

Alright Rob, I broke down. I had my Chameleon and 11' Thunderfly. Well, now I have added a Dutchware Banyan Bridge hammock (which I love ... lots of good naps already ... taking it to the OHT in 2 weeks). The trusty old 11' Thunderfly just isn't long enough to cover the dog bones entirely, so I did it ... I bought myself a new Mountainfly (Ocean Blue, 20D silpoly). I ordered it on 6/11, with a stated lead time of 3-4 weeks, and received it yesterday. That is a mere 11 days from order to receipt on a custom Mountainfly. I'm seam sealing the pullouts tonight and it will be ready to go (already ordered and received an extra set of Dutchware Stingerz and a mesh sleeve for it). Was tempted to do another Thunderfly, only longer, but remembered you talking about your Mountainfly and figured I'd give it a shot (same price anyway). Can't wait to get it out on the trail!

Great video as usual. Love the color wish i saw that before i got my RR a week ago. Couple questions if you have time 1.how long did you make the ridge line? Is the big net strong enough to hold the ridge line with the hook time and phone? Looks like it’s just the shock cord and bug net fir support. 2. What size did you make the shock cord on the new bug net pull out? I see you used line lock 3 3. Love to see a review or how to on Jeff’s suspension. I have bought a lot of stuff from him except suspension. Still using beetle buckles which I know you had slippage issues Thanks for all the good work. You are the expert on the Ridge runners. I couldn’t tell is that a double layer hammock or not since you are using an underquilt in the video? Also wondering about tippiness when if tossing and turning from side to side such as I do. Wondering if I can one could just put a pad on top and if wanted to use my One Wind underquilt could just use that as normal. I know they make the Lynx underquilt specifically for it, but wouldn’t want to buy everything right out the door. Enjoy your reviews are informative and don’t take yourself to seriously. Thanks
@robpelton
@robpelton 2 жыл бұрын
Yep. Double layer. I don’t see an issue with laying a pad on the hammock. The hammock will be a bit more “tippy” as your center of gravity will be higher. You can adjust a normal UQ for the WBRR. You’d just need to fiddle with it. Thanks for the support and for watching!

For the weight, you can't put the new suspension system on the older hammock? I didn't get how you say the new system is now slightly lighter then the old system if you mod the suspension? Thanks for the video going over the changes
@robpelton
@robpelton 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ned! There is weight savings in trying out different suspensions. Yes, the old hammock and new suspension would’ve been the lightest combo. I, however, no longer own the old one. The new Ridgerunner is a heavier fabric, which I really like. I’m a little weight conscience when it comes to gear, but Im ok with the weight of my sleep system because of the quality sleep I get.

I’ve wanted to get into hammock camping for a long time, but you have to get the hammock, the pad, the quilt, and the tarp, and it seems that by the time you’re finished, it’s more expensive and even heavier than an ultralight tent. Then what if there aren’t any good trees in your sight that are the right distance? And a big ALSO, is that I can’t find anywhere to try one before I buy. It seems tents are always set up to try, but I guess they don’t want people messing around in the hammocks or something, but there is never one on display.
@robpelton
@robpelton 2 жыл бұрын
Hammocks have their pros & cons no doubt. I’d 86 the pad and go with an Underquilt. There is also a bit of a fidget factor. High end tent setups are lighter and you can do more in a tent rather than hammock. However, the level of sleep comfort, at least for me, is the factor that pulls me over the fence. Sleep is unrivaled. Worth it to me. Regarding “try before you buy”, you’re right. There isn’t a place to go for that. Best bet is to know someone who has different setups or attend a hammock event. Thanks for watching Jim!

Hi .. thanks for the review ..i got a question tho , is the " dabble layer " just a second layer to spread the weight , or is there space in between for an air pat ? Reason i ask is , im not sure that i want to spend the money for an under quilt AND the Hammock when i just start out hammock camping .

@@robpelton I know. I was going to get a red Warbonnet recently and they stopped carrying the red fabric around Christmas. I looked around at several hammock vendors and the only one who still stocks red is Dutchware Gear. Hammock Gewr stocks red quilts as does Loco Libre, but no red hammocks either. Trailheadz & Dream hammocks don't offer red either. Cherish that thing. It's gold. I settled on a red Dutchware half zip for a summer setup. A fully loaded Banyan or Chameleon were too rich for the moment. The Ridgerunner is a better value.

When I bought my RR a few years ago I also bought attachments to use trekking poles instead of spreader bars. However, I haven’t been able to find poles that work with these attachments, has anyone done this? Or know what trekking poles would work? Thx

They have a few models available with a tripod mount . Not great IMO. You’d also have to purchased the adapters.
