Played on Battle.net Edition v2.02 on the "Fastest" game speed setting with Fog of War enabled.

canonically, this mission lost the war for the Horde. The traitors were over half of the predicted strikeforce of the Horde, and with all of them dead, they were quickly pushed back to Blackrock Spire, where, after a fierce battle and the death of Lothar, the Alliance won the war

Reminds me of how Patriot's Blood in StarCraft changed the tide against the United Earth Directorate, while Medivh in Warcraft I, combined with the sudden deposing of Blackhand in The Black Morass, ensured that Gul'dan and the Orcs never had the upper advantage come the Second War.

Not to mention the loyalists suffered heavy losses in the conflict as well. The Horde was definitely a shadow of its former self after the civil war.

Okay, I see now why I couldn't beat this one. I wasn't focusing on acquiring enough oil quickly to be able to build the juggernaut fleet and dominate the sea. And I was always taking the closest island, which is too small to build up properly. Thanks, that was really interesting perspective!

Yes, I was going to say the same thing. I didn't realize they give you enough units at the start to invade the northeast island. I was taking the closest one with the goldmine, but then I would constantly get harassed by enemy ships, sometimes their entire fleet at once!

The Blackrock Clan was the TRUE CLAN that destroyed the Stormreaver and Twilight's Hammer, NOT the Blacktooth Grin. Thats just a RETCON. This original warcraft 2 mission AND later in the warcraft 3 mission with Maiev and Drakthul supports the ORIGINAL.

I plan on taking the two lower islands and then try to block their navel production till I build enough of a force to assault the primary base (and I’ll make sure to have some zeppelins with my navel blockade so they won’t be surprise by those turtles

If you start your base at the smaller island with a gold mine, the enemy won't stop harassing you with Destroyers and Juggernauts and later Giant Turtles. It would be impossible to build Oil Platforms early because the intervals of the waves is shorter than what it takes for you to build any ship.

Have you tried to go directly to the main island at first instead of the lower ones? I tried that today and managed to build a base directly at the main island and since they use mostly ships to attack it makes for a quick victory.

+hakukahn I've seen that you can do that but I think this way is the easiest.

You should submit this to speedrun.com, this is the fastest time I've seen for Tides of Darkness. Do you ever plan on doing videos of the expansion?

Blue is extremely easy to defeat. You send your catapults directly south and they can't even defend themselves/reach the catapults. They might try something with Death Knights altough but it only works on the orcs you need to defend the catapults against a few grunt once you are entering the blue base after shooting them enough from the distance. But yeah speedwise you are much better off establishing your base ASAP, sure if you steal blue base from the get go the map becomes impossible to lose but it's slower to build your base.

Thus the Horde victory turned into defeat all due to infighting caused by the greed of Ghoulish Dan.

*The battle that completely turned the tide of the war against the Orcs, with Crestfall following after.* 0:06: ...Diablo? Funny how the game's manual shows this as being on the south of Lordaeron, and yet future lore, particularly WC3: The Frozen Throne, shows this on the far west AND between the continents of Azeroth and Kalimdor. 14:50: They only killed a decoy of Gul'dan, but that didn't mean the warlock survived his dark journey so to reach Sargeras. A sad and brutal story, that. (Wow, can't believe you actually made this look so easy, Stu.)
