Personally, this is my favorite map in all of Alternate to play. You are right about the continent. Kalimdor is still Kalimdor, but the Barrens are replaced with Hellfire Peninsula (named Draenor in Alternate) and Ashenvale with Zangarmarsh. The lumber objective was changed to gold to make the map a bit different, and it also helped with making a more interesting Shredder replacement. The enemy Shadow Hunter was inspired by the fact that some Priestess of the Moon heroes were meant to appear on this map but were cut for some reason. I wanted to include him because you never get to fight a Shadow Hunter in the original campaigns, and you don't see a combined force of TFT orc units protected by Big Bad Voodoo and a bunch of wards. The mana wagons are meant to facilitate spreading mana to multiple units, so you don't transfer to each one individually. Mana Wagons' ability has an auto-cast because you can't disable it. I added hints to not auto-cast it because it also gives mana to Grom, which is not ideal. You mentioned Obsidian Statues, fun fact, in the TFT Beta the Obsidian Statues had this replenish ability, with Absorb Mana and a Blight Regen Aura, so they also functioned like Mana Banks. I guess that design didn't work that well since it did get replaced with AoE Mana and AoE Heal, but I think for this race it works a lot better since there's only 2 units you want to give mana to. The gold mine you found at the end was added inside that cirlce that exists even in the original map. For some reason, they made a circle inside the trees and didn't put anything inside it. Priests don't appear in this map because I think they are a bit overused in campaigns and always get unlocked early. I know they are a core unit, but I think their absence does not have much of an impact in this map. Healing Wards can be stolen if you really need healing, though it's not something you really have to do. Spell Immunity protects against spells aka magic abilities like Chain Lightning, while Resistant Skin makes the units get targeted as if they were heroes, so no Charm, Transmute and lower debuff duration. Ensnare is a physical abiltiy and bypasses Spell Immunity, but gets its duration reduced because of Resistant Skin.

Your description of beta obsidian statues still sounds more convenient and versatile than these wagons though: you perform all your mana management on one control group of identical units with basically no other function, instead of being tied to hero positioning and spell economy. Absorb Mana, or at least its current version, is near-instant rather than a channelled tether making it much easier to use at a glance not to mention _each_ statue gets its own cast and cooldown. Then you have access to different generators e.g. pooling mana of multiple banshees for Possession which Siphon can't do because it cannot take mana from other allies. If Absorb Mana worked on heroes back then you also have the option of feeding a bunch of units to your Lich and storing the mana for later use, and in release TFT you also have mana potions on the racial shops. Sure it's still clunky and micro intensive, sure training a few more necros _just_ to take their mana and cast a few more Death Coils _probably_ isn't worth it most of the time but it sure beats channelling lvl1 Siphon Mana then right-clicking the box in order to basically just cast a target capped Roar.

I've always found it ironic that for all the times that Blizzard hid things behind trees in Warcraft 3, there's nothing hidden on the map where chopping down trees is the quest objective. Even in the next Hunter of Shadows mission, there's +6 agility boots hidden behind trees along the way to Mannoroth's fountain. That gap in the forest at 43:57 actually is there on the original map, but there's nothing in it. The mapmaker here added the gold mine to it.

I followed Abelhawk's videos and a major complaint of his was that there was nothing behind the trees While this map isn't about cutting trees anymore, I chose to fill that whole with a Gold Mine The problem with fans adding stuff behind trees in a map like this is that players who know the original map will not bother to check

Re: spell immunity and resistant skin, this is a classic question, but stems from a slight (and extremely common, don't worry) misunderstanding of how both passives work. Spell Immunity protects from unit attacks that deal magic damage and from abilities marked as magic, except for hero ultimates (which ignore Spell Immunity, but not Resistant Skin). Resistant Skin makes abilities treat the unit as if it were a hero, which means they always do reduced damage, and many non-damage effects either can't affect them at all or have much shorter durations. Some examples below of how different things interact with each: Storm Bolt: Blocked by Spell Immunity, damage and stun duration reduced by Resistant Skin. Possession: Blocked by Spell Immunity or Resistant Skin. Charm: Unaffected by Spell Immunity, blocked by Resistant Skin. Ensnare: Unaffected by Spell Immunity, duration reduced by Resistant Skin. Sorceress attack: Blocked by Spell Immunity, unaffected by Resistant Skin. Starfall: Unaffected by Spell Immunity, damage reduced by Resistant Skin.

I think the extractors are the anti-frustration feature in case you completely exhaust all the mines before completing the gold objective. Machine-ballista, yes please. Now the next mission....no, no spoilers, it's best to see for yourselves(even took me by surprise), Xetant really thought of everything. Okay, small one, orcs take a very specific place in alternate. Lastly, seems ppl always forget that banish amplifies anything magic-related, be it magic atk or a nuke(like flamestrike).

The Batriders actually say "The ends justify the means!" while doing the suicide attack. You had trouble understanding them due to the Jamaican accent.

I hope you'll enjoy our SC2 take on the Mana Wagon once it releases. Starting with autocast Siphon Mana on the wagon itself targeting valid enemies. The phoenix probably has Resistant Skin because some effects (Bash comes to mind) have different durations on heroes and do work on Spell Immune units. At least that's how it's coded in the SC2 port, being Spell Immune does not automatically add a unit to the "Hero or Resistant" pool.

@@xetanth87 A spinoff of Azeroth Reborn called Azeroth Legends. Think of it more as SC2 Co-Op Commanders but with WC3 maps and units. We don't have a release date yet though, the Night Elf campaign will almost certainly release first. For what it's worth we had no knowledge of WC3 Alternate and independently came up with the combo of "basically Searing Arrows"+"mobile mana battery". And apparently there's some minor overlap with WC3 Chronicles of the Second War too, but also unintentional as both projects just reskin and reuse various vanilla abilities to save development time.

@@Photoloss Lots of projects that make High/Blood Elf tech trees tend to include some sort of mobile mana battery, so it's not that strange. It was just the phrasing of the initial post made me wonder.

Guessing the Mana Wagons are like the Moon Wells where they can auto-heal but it's a waste and it's better to manually select them. The Mana Wagons starting with no mana, combined with the Siphon Mana mechanic for them, and most units having spells but no mana regeneration... it really makes it feel like the faction is asking if you want to use Grom's spells, or your unit's spells. Because there just isn't enough mana to go around for both. Either you're using Grom's mana on his own spells, and leaving your Mana Wagons bone dry to slooooooooooowly accumulate mana on their own to drip-feed your units, or your using Grom to feed your Mana Wagons to feed your army, and then he doesn't have any mana to use on his own stuff. That doesn't feel fun to me. All my units can do something cool, but in order to use any of it, I have to choose which fun stuff I'm NOT using on the units I have on the field. Instead of deciding what cool stuff I want to use, instead I'm being made to choose which cool stuff I want to _not_ be able to use, despite it being right there. I've already chosen what units I'm using, but now there's another layer of choice in that now I have to choose which of those units actually get to do their special thing and actually be used optimally.

Yes, this is exactly my design If you are fighting air units you can put mana into Archers If you are destroying buildings you can put mana into Ballistae For every other case you can use Grom's spells It's more of an alternative way to spend Grom's mana rather than a straight up bonus. The Archer and Ballista have the exact stats as the normal units, so there's no downside to this mechanic, it's just something extra if you want to use Grom's mana that way. You can opt for getting 2 wagons for the passive mana regen if 3 more food isn't a problem

Plus the map basically *makes the decision for you* by starting you off with 2 levels in Flame Strike and 1 level in Banish, leaving you 1 level behind on Siphon both at the start and at the end (unless you sacrifice your ult unlock I guess) if you really do want to play the new gimmick. And at least the enemy witch doctors seem to spam out their wards a lot too so even if you do get lvl2-3 Siphon actually increasing your mana income with it might still be an unreliable chore.

@@xetanth87 I would argue that the downside of this design decision is _user perception._ Regardless of your intention for it to be an option rather than a bonus, in the end, what the player sees is units with abilities they can't use, because _another unit_ wanted to use abilities instead. No other race has to deal with this sort of limitation, and I don't feel like it's a good way to set these Elves apart. I understand what you intended it to be, but my point is that it simply _feels_ bad, regardless of whether it's balanced or powerful or weak. Player perception is an important thing to keep in mind. Not being able to use one spell because you used another spell on the same unit is one thing. Too many slows from the Sorceress, can't polymorph anyone now. The choice was made, but regardless of which choice you made, that Sorceress got to use their abilities. But not being able to use a spell on your archers because you spent the mana on your Ballistae instead just _feels_ bad. If a unit has an ability, people want to be able to use it.

​@@Blazieth I feel like this whole situation could be amended if there was a net gain to using the mechanic. Like, if you gave 5 Mana to the wagon, it would store up 8 or 10 to give to other units. All the time I just asked myself why even bother with the wagon, just siphon directly to the unit you want.

-to answer Jay's question : ultimates typically bypass magic immunity, but not resistant skin which makes a unit act as a hero for spells immunity and duration -as someone who never played warcraft 2 (or is it 1 ?) the elf's voice already sounds off but the new AI-generated sentences sound just WRONG to me -is it just me or are those alternate parallel universes getting weirder and weirder ? now we get mechanical ostriches turning wood into gold - also "those trolls are too... blue" was hilarious

The Swordsman has the quotes of the Elven Archer from Warcraft 2. His transmissions are generated from those lines. They always sounded weird because of the quality of the Wc2 soundfiles, and the AI matched that weirdness perfectly. Mechanical Ostriches or Mechanostriders have been in WoW since it released back in 2004 as the Gnome racial mounts, so they fit pretty well as Shredder equivalents in the 'Goblin is now Gnome' swap

the gold mine is always there in the trees, usually with the shreders you put them in that zone since is the biggest quantity of lumber and eventually will clear the way for the gold mine

I wanted to make it purple to match the Warsong colors, but the creator of the UI said that he doesn't want people to edit it without his permission, and he hasn't been around since 2015
