Gosh Julian, that street corner is looking really good. Great that you are recycling near ten-year-old models, and they look just as good as the new ones. And the family connection adds to the fun. Back at the warehouse I am sorry to see the protesting workers having to make their point. Even worse that so many workers here are having to protest once again, so it seems very relevant. One thing missing is a brazier, a familiar site on pickets when I was a kid. You could have one of those flickering led sets for fires inside. As to the crane it seems to me that it would have been very useful having the extra length, both for reaching the upper floors and also for getting larger loads off big trucks which couldn't or wouldn't fit through the gates and preferred to 'park' in the street outside. At least that's my take on it. We used to have a small brewery distribution plant at the end of the road when I was a kid and you often saw them offloading big bundles of crates (not sure if they were on pallets, back then) with their crane. I think that one may have swung out from the wall, and may well have gone by the early 70s.

Hi Julian. Warehouse Closure: I love the scene containing the redundant workers holding a protest rally - a fairly rare scene in modelling, I think. Corner Shop: I like these but I'm not sure about the external lamp - I think it looks too large (although I'm sure it IS OO scale). Low Relief Shops: I love the adapted roof. Plans Across the Street: Where you joined the buildings together, I think an additional chimney above the shop would have finished it off rather nicely (assuming you HAD got a chimney).

Like the way you get a story in your mind and then develop scene and cameos around the story, definitely gives purpose and interest to what is in your model.. When you put the corner shop in place, I though - hang on, he said it was going to be low relief. It was only when you changed camera angle I saw what you had done, so a nice bit of modelling and illusion. Mark

A chain locking the gates closed would be a nice, if not necessary, touch. Maybe even a small van parked behind the gates, in a deliberate blocking manner. As in all other parts of your layout, your building, road, landscape relationships, all look natural. Any limitations, ie model v reality, or practical restrictions you encounter, are overcome. You find solutions that don’t involve compromise. Looking forward to another area completed, and trains bringing it to life.

Great work as usual Julian. I agree on card buildings lasting over time, I think it's only in high humidity or cold and damp environments where they might warp and cause issues. The Peco crane kit boom always looked too long to me too, that's why I ended up getting a wills crane kit, but that would likely be too small for your application. I'm amazed you can get those laser cut details so nicely done. I've got to look at getting one someday. Flat roofs on large more imposing buildings like those 3 storey ones were quite common from memory. Looking forward to the next installment.

Dear Julian, love those scenes you came up with. Think the crane’s boom is appropriate. Seems it’s also able to deliver heavy goods on the upper floors. Very interesting street scene. The addition to the Metcalfe low relief shops is awesome. The transition to the flat roof very accurate. Also, the on the roof edge low fencing is very appropriate for these buildings. Think it adds a great level of detail and interest to these buildings, the street and am very curious to see the overall looks and perspective it creates from the further up opposite viewing point. Very cool vid!!

Great work on the warehouse closure. Quite topical with protesters outside although at the moment here in the UK it’s more about pay rises than closures. I like what you’ve done with the houses and shops around the warehouse. I like the Metcalfe kits, they look great and the instructions are very clear. I have varnished all of mine just in case, my layout is in the loft room which is heated so should be fine. Thanks for sharing your progress Julian, always a pleasure to watch. Roy.

Nice work as always. So much detail. 👍 One thing that always intrigues me is having static people on a train layout with moving trains. I've always found this a bit odd. Moving people are not easy to install and don't look very authentic yet sadly. Personal preference obviously. The layout is looking great. Monique from Brisbane

Hi Julian what a lovely street you have created, and you are dead right about the quality of Metcalfe card kits. The boom on the crane, you should leave as is. as you have said it already lines up with the entrance for lifting of any loads. i do think you should have a pub in and that area. as i am sure there would have been one so close to the big warehouse, for when the work force would leave on a Friday afternoon shift and go for a pint before heading off home. just a thought. very creative work from you as always...many thanks for sharing Tony

Hi Julian, I completely agree that card kits do last, I some Superquick kits I made in the mid 70s and the only thing that has happened is a slight fading, otherwise they have lasted, many thanks for your great videos

Really enjoying this so far, your videos popped up this afternoon and I've watched a few hours worth already. I'm not surehow far you are planning the coal yard but I found out when planning my recent layout that lots of modellers put the coal staithes/bunkers up against the track, but in reality wagons were unloaded by hand onto a lorry or cart at the wagon level, and the bunkers were often at right angles to the track or further away, but not open towards the track as often modelled. I look forward to seeing more :) Tom

Crane looks good and size of boom would be correct, crane boom as a general rule has more lifting power the more to perpendicular it is. Looks great. Your buildings are really nice. Thanks for your videos.

Hi Julian . With regard to the brick textures from Adobe do you know if they can be used with the basic SE version of Adobe that is often bundled with new computers. Because currently they do a 30 day free trial that you can get up to 10 Images. I would advise anyone to check out the small print, but it appears that you can cancel risk free if done before the free trial ends.
