came here to see/say that. it's cool they finally made him humane after all these years but he wasn't always THAT human, he was a ghostly, echoing vengeful spirit which was perfectly reflected in his old voice... he was charming that way. oddingly, scarily attractive. it was that strange feeling of fear and attraction at the same time, while now only attraction remains. no fear since you can clearly hear the human/your kind/ on the other side...

We aren't working at DE, it's entirely possible there was a problem with the old voice actors not wanting to reprise the role for the new quest so they had to use a new one and rerecord old lines so it's consistent. I don't know maybe I'm wrong, point is: We don't know.

@@zaviki7819 old voice was heavily modified, so they could find any similar voice and slap modifiers on top of it. Abscence of an old VA is a poor excuse when you have company that big really

He sounds way more scary in the old version, guess it was related to the jade shadows quest with them not wanting to treat him as the demon guy that gets owned in 10 seconds. I honestly won't forget the first time him appeared with " *There is no place to hide* " genuinely shook me but it makes sense with his future direction

This is an amazing way to put it. I love the new lines but I do wish they kept the old ones until after jade shadows. Replacing all the old quest lines kinda is sad

Honestly i feel like it works as Before he was only filled with rage and basicly hate for the tenno and had no real reason to speak But now he has a child he has to protect so he isnt blinded by rage lol

@@namedless again yeah, it make perfect sense as a character development thing, and thus would work well, if only it wasn't retro-active. like, if those new lines would be used only post jade quest, that would have been so neat. but it's clearly a universal change, so it just feel weird, to me at least.

the old version should still be kept for Second Dream and etc, especially when it comes to replayability. New voice should be kept for Jade Shadows and future stuff. It makes no sense to change it for the old as well. Does not fit thematically, too.

The old Stalker sounded strangled, muted, as his lore suggests. He was filled with rage and regret. Gianni gave him more rage and frustration, but it was certainly at a cost.

Old Stalker voice makes sense. He was an echo of his former self, and lack any motivation except for a fever memory of the Tenno killing his overlords and the fact he realized he was a warframe, a puppet dangling on Tenno strings. They should've just kept it instead of changing it for pre Jade Shadows. New voice is fine if it was kept for Jade Shadows and after. Not for replaying Second Dream and etc.

Gianni didn't "try too hard to sound edgy", remember it is up to the voice director to explain what he should sound like. [DE]'s voice director heard these takes as Gianni was doing them and approved the direction.

Why does it make sense? Did something happen to the original VA?

@@NatiiixLP DE changed the VA from George Spanos, DE George on the Sound team according to Rebb, and it's now Gianni, or Gabriel from ULTRAKILL. It makes since they would make all the lines the same new actor, but apparently the reason they changed is just because they wanted to. Look up "Rebb Ford talks bringing Stalker back for Shadows".

Oh he was definitely meant to be pitiable. His entire shtick is that he's a shadow driven by impotently nursed resentment over something that happened in the distant past. It was always implied that, deep down, he knows he isn't settling the score in any way that truly matters, and that he already irrevocably lost when the Orokin fell. Attacking the player is just him lashing out in bitter resentment because clinging to that grudge is the only thing he has left after his world fell apart. ...Which is a nuance completely lost by making him some generic angry guy. It just sounds like Gianni doing a bad impression of Reaper from Overwatch, which is lame.

@@Sweld549 I understand your take on it, but I really can't agree with it. Take away all of the particulars and The Stalker is just an agent of vengeance and there is nothing pitiable about revenge. Every villain could have been a hero. At the fork in the road, the villain could have just as easily chosen acceptance and peace. I can't agree with your worldview because it sympathizes with violent solutions. One of the most accepted maxims in the history of mankind is: "Violence is never the answer." The Stalker made a choice. Do I disagree with that choice? Well, not entirely. But, I don't pity it. It is very difficult to harbor both pity for an individual's choice and respect for their agency in making that choice. I respect The Stalker enough to spare him the humiliation of pity. BTW the vengeful victim is such an overused trope that it IS generic at this point. You literally can't write a character like that without it eliciting eyerolls and "here we go again"s from the audience. Do you know how many bad guys throughout fiction and non-fiction decided that the world had to burn because they had their budding family ripped from them? I'll help you: lots. EDIT: And yes, I understand the irony of dropping that particular maxim in a discussion about a game where the goal is to blow up as many things as possible as quickly as possible. I do see a difference between the violence of war and the violence of revenge. The Tenno are at war. The Stalker is seeking revenge. One is done in the service of others. One is done in service of the self. I can't justify the violence of war, but I do understand that it is very different from the violence of revenge. Also, I will remind you that the stalker existed before the game had a single speck of story. There was no tragic tale behind the stalker when he first started ganking Tenno. So, no, he really WAS meant to be a boogeyman and not really at all pitiable lol. All of that came like 5-6 years later. We had a pretty good run of the stalker just being a troll.

I was just saying the vibe he gives off has always been more seething bitterness than overt anger. I just thought the old voice captured that feeling better than this new one does. I meant “pitiable” more in the pathetic derogatory sense anyway, not that in the sense that I particularly sympathized with him.

I apologize for the big tangent. All of that other stuff I was talking about is really recent for me. I didn't put too much thought into the stalker before they started giving him a story. He was just another organic speedbump on my path to apotheosis (this hasn't really changed). I do recall some of the early discussion on the stalker though. Back then we couldn't even agree on whether he was an individual or if he was some sort of twisted mirror of the tenno. there were no operators. To us the warframe WAS the tenno. I think the one thing we could all agree on was that he was a massive troll that delighted in popping into nearly every solo corrupted vault mission you started.

In case if you don't know. That wasn't Stalker at all. That was 'Shadow Stalker'. Shadow Stalker was a enhanced version that heavily on the blade and the Warframe destroyed it making the Shadow Stalker Canonically dead. Meanwhile Stalker on the other hand only uses Hate as his main weapon as he was technically not enhanced at all. Hunrow made the shadow stalker while stalker just stayed behind. So technically speaking it was 2 stalkers who were entirely different versions before the Warframe killed one of them.

Which part are you talking about with "reskin"? His loin cloth? That's pretty much the only difference I see when you exclude the Pakal Armor.

@@NW_Gamer_18 I'm sorry. What? You make it sound as if Shadow Stalker was an entirely different being, as if Hunhow built him the way we build a Warframe. They're the exact same character. Shadow is just the name Hunhow gives him, hence Shadow Stalker. Beyond that, he's the same old Stalker, just wearing armor granted to him buy Hunhow. Armor he likely disposed of after TSD.

Tbh i forgot shadow even had a voice whenever he spawned all my ears were hearing my Acceltra prime exploding everywhere with allot of kill sounds, also cool Gianni did another voice.
