From my interpretation, they are "assigned" a timeline, they cannot cross over without...well, destroying reality. Since the Void is unreality, I see it as the MITW made a deal with the Tenno on the Zariman to merge the timelines so they can both exist.

In other words, yes, they're stuck in a kind of Schrodinger's cat situation where both simultaneously exist and don't exist, which is why you only see one at any given time. How this happened? No clue, maybe they were just both in the void at the same time and got mixed up. The zariman was probably either a manifestation of the void, a "fill in the blank" in the operator's mind, or the actual zariman from the drifter's timeline, which never got rescued from the void, and serves as a middleground where you can give physics the finger.

Eternalism, they both exist by way of a multiverse but cannot co-exist inside of the same universe, thats why the Drifter started to glow, as it's a paradox to have two of the same person present in one universe at any given time, only one of them can be present at a time, with the void being a gateway between universes and time being of no value. They are 2 sides of the same coin (hence why the Drifter inherits the voids power later through the Operators deal with TMITW) and therefore cannot exist one without the other. They cannot coexist in the same universe and also not exist as one must always be present, the universe can't not have a Tenno. When the Lotus and Operator got sucked into the void that created another paradox: one of non existence for the Tenno, as the void does not represent time. As this is not possible in a universe that measures time and the Tenno always has been this allowed a connection to the other side of the coin, the Drifter, and brought them into the universe as the Operators replacement. How they found the Lotus and how they know about her and the Operator remains to be confirmed but I theorize that as the void acts like a doorway swinging both ways that this actually may be another version of the Lotus altogether, either that or the Drifter just happened to catch her on the way through the door. In any case I am positive the knowledge of everything was given to the Drifter by Ordis. For the Operator, as I understand it, it was mere seconds that passed from them getting sucked into the void to when they reemerged in the Drifters place against the Lotus after lashing out from absorbing the 2nd Archons power, and again as both the Operator and Drifter cannot coexist in one universe thats why the Drifter vanished back to their own. Its why the Drifter only knows so much about whats going on as they were transferred over only after Ballas rose to power, so they wont know the full history of what happened and only know that the Lotus is dying and needs help and also why the Operator seems confused because everything kind of just happened in the blink of an eye. If at the end of the quest you customize the Operator you notice an option to select the Drifter which seems to be like a portal and two hands connecting, and you can switch them at any time between missions. I would think the Zariman is also between reality and the void if you look at it upon the Operators arrival, thats why the connection for a meeting is possible for a short time there.

My operator has a white eye glow and when TNW came out he had the ONE hairstyle they hadn’t included for drifter. So when the hood came off all i saw was a bald head and eyes that I could reasonably assume were glitched with the graphics. It took me opening the customization settings and seeing the eye glow settings to understand just what the hell was going on

Mine had a Different skin tone, hair style and eye colour. So when the Drifter Hood was removed. My reaction was "Who the hell is this suppose to be." Best part missed the char customization for the Drifter in the quest eventually I manage to figure it out via Ordis convo.

I have a spoiler for you. DON'T! Im playing this game for nearly 10 years. The lore is a Swiss cheese that gets even changed and rewritten to fit certain things into it. Some story strings seem to permanently connect to each other but most of the story is a mess. After the war within quests get kinda out of hand and due to that the lore stretches further and further. I'm curious what they will be doing next with the man in the wall, seems like they are building up something that will just open more questions and not answer a single thing.

Lore is a little confusing just understand the concept of eternalism in the game that theres not always one path theres always other paths look at it as multiverse or alternate universes where that other option happend

I also heard the Drifter say: "Should've stayed in Duviri." Maybe it was a random voiceline,but it made sense for me, who played Duviri before the new war.

I feel like its not about the ingame choice as much as its your 'the player' choices to make, because DE got a lot of request to make the operator a big boy and girl and the other half still want to play as a child. I feel like this is the best outcome they could have done, you can't please both side so why not let them choose instead.

Now, I could be completely wrong but for all I know the Zariman was retrieved when it emerged from the void. It just isn't there on the star chart for us as players. I can only speculate (and hope) that the Zariman 10-0 becomes the hub world for the Duviri Paradox. (It'll be a shame if all that beautiful art is only there for this one quest)

I did, Lotus saved the Operator, not the Drifter, the Operator is the one attached to her who has a personal history with her

I did since my Drifter didn't even resemble my Operator at all and I missed the Drifter customization in the quest to fix him.

It was a tough decision, but I went with my Operator. I figured the corrupted Lotus would have a better chance of recognizing him, and he would get to finish the mission he failed.

I did, the Operator knows a lot more about what's going on.

I did my first run

Well, I did and most of people on reddit. It was along the lines of "it has happened so much stuff between the operator and lotus, it felt right to let the operator finish it all". Meanwhile the drifter was someone who didn't have story with lotus and just crossed paths with her type of reasoning.

They can save it if it's just a what the drifter's been doing the entire time saving different timelines from the big bad of the week when an operator's out of commission due to whatever (how when we seem to die as operator it seems like nothing happens at all?) And he's been doing that the entire time. That then it would seem to make sense as to him, ballas is just another villain of the week that we somehow messed up in offing. It's probably something that they won't clear up in the Duviri Paradox. It may also be the drifter's personality to just not give a damn about much apart from what he thinks he feels like he's supposed to do as it's at least better than being stuck on the Zariman all the time.

@@mikzpwnz_3199 I too would be cynical if I got stuck in a world that is not my own and stop giving a bullet about what is going to happen next, the drifter is just so done and only do what he must because he can and because he should. Remember that one mission where ordis keep saying that the drifter is walking into a death trap and they just like "Its going to be fine." and "what could possibly go wrong?", we don't know what the drifter had to go through while they lived their in the paradox.

I thought that communicated that Drifter never met Ballas. They didn't get rescued, so Ballas never really entered their life.
