If you're looking to get involved into Kriegsspiel... look no further than the IKS, the International Kriegsspiel Society. Live games every Saturday (small in some regards) or if you fancy doing a PBP campaign which lasts for Months they have those all the time. Currently I'm involved in x4 Campaigns. A ACW one where I'm literally the Confederate Topography guy, ride around the map redrawing the map for all the Generals so they can plan their battle, a massive D Day campaign, another ACW game where I'm a Divisional Commander and finally I've just signed up to play the French in a Penisular War campaign.

Yeah, thanks, The IKS offered me a game last year, but I just didn't have the time to participate unfortunately. I have watched soe of their live streams though.

@@StormofSteelWargaming we play mostly via mobile. Giving updates daily or weekly. The live games can be a long slog as you're sat down playing it for hours. We spent nearly 6 hours doing the Battle of Cape St. Vincent but it was a great insight into 18th century Naval Warfare. If you ever get the chance to take part it'll be great. I like tabletop Wargaming but there is something beautiful in Kriegsspiel you don't find on any tabletop

I've been waffling on this book, as I've got pretty much every other wargaming campaign book, and it's a trifle pricey, but then again I really, really enjoyed reading and rereading his other work, so just ordered it. Happy to see, as you mentioned, so much text. A bit worried about too much material that may rapidly age - like Photoshop or Discord. When you think about it, Discord didn't exist when he started writing this book; will it even be around in another decade? Still, that's a small fraction of the book, and I'm very confident I'll be getting my money's worth!

Cheers for the preview, it is more broad in topic than I had expected from what I'd been looking at (which is a good thing!)

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, Henry has put a lot of work in and the depth and breath of the book is unparalleled I think.

This looks great and, let's face it, books like these don't come out every decade. With Grant and Featherstone already in my library, I wonder what Hyde really adds though. I hope I don't sound too critical but at this first glance I struggle to see anything truly new. It's been over 50 years since 'War Game Campaigns', surely there must be more than Discord to talk about now?

Having not read it fully, I can't be sure, but yes I assume there is more than Discord in this.

I'm currently building a map on Wonderdraft for my eventual 6mm American Revolution grand campaign. Played solo by me to test it out. It has a similar design to War for America and I've done a fair bit of research into North America for it (I'm obsessed with North America espically the USA so it was an exciting thing for me to do). Currently 1.5 years into building the map and currently have no AWI 6mm figures... I planned to do 10mm but for just £130 I can have a British Army with 36 Line Regiments and then 12 Light Battalions and 12 Grenadier Battalions (this does not include my Loyalist or Hessian forces planned). My map consists of the 13 Colonies, most of Canada, the Wilderness/Indian Reserve, Spanish Louisianna (I intend on converting 6mm Baccus French into Spanish troops also), part of Florida and of course... the West Indies all true to the 1775 year. A lot of time has gone into it and I'm nowhere near complete. Not too bad as I have to paint all the forces yet! This book looks highly interesting and maybe something I should look into as I fully intend on my wargaming hobby to involve campaigns not single battles!

A lot of gamers look down on imaginations and points systems, but starting with historic games if you have all the figures. Cut Down to a reasonable ratio to play Waterloo which incidentally can be done on a 12ft. X 6ft. Table using Age of Eagles. Are yo going to make all the moves exactly as Napoleon and Wellington did with Blucher’s intervention? Knowing the result at the days end would you really allow Ney to waste your cavalry against the British squares? I know it was touch and go but I would rather make my own plan and that makes it a what if battle. More interesting but not historical. My SYW Prussians are painted in the correct uniforms, but when I use them for an imaginary campaign I just change the names to protect the innocent. I would like to play the large battles that Peter Young and Charles Grant played but as I’m no longer using my garage 20’ x 20’ so my old table was great but as I play solo an 79 years old I’d rather sit down in the same room as a radiator. I’ve also reduced the battalion sizes to between 20 and 30 figures for battalion level games. I have to admit that ‘Sharp Practice’ rules lend themselves to solo play better than my other rules by Trevor Halsall . But it is the campaign that I prefer. I bought Wargames Campaigns by Don Featherstone when it was first published and I thought I’d lost or lent it to someone but it resurfaced among some old F1 racing books and magazines. So I’m reading Henry’s book and then a reread Dons book and all the other book that have some hidden gems and I may even come up with some rules that will suit me.☹️

@@StormofSteelWargaming what was your manoeuvre unit size? (Battalion, Brigade or Division?). I played a game at a club meeting with a Birmingham club, in the ‘70’s on a 6’ X 4’ table. It was brigades with skirmish screens that reduced the effectiveness of musketry against there line units. I bought the rules but I can’t for the life of me remember the name.
