Upon receiving word that reinforcements, lead by Queek Headtaker, are en route over land, Lord Thorek sends forth his young son Borek to hold them at the pass.

Just found your channel after recently getting back into fantasy. Easily the best channel for fantasy battle reports I've found. Really nicely edited to keep the game pace up and great sportsmanship and narrative thrown in. Warhammer Fantasy is still the GOAT.

Although I would agree some more variety would be appreciated, you sir do the clearest and easiest to follow battle reps. 6th Edition armies are the best imo, it gives me such an itch to play it!!

What a game, random rolls weave a story. The narrations had me laughing, from rats in beards to the poor miners, superb. Well played and very enjoyable to watch, thanks for the fun.

Interesting about the declined challenge BSB. From what I can see you played it correctly by the 6th edition rules. Somewhere in the back of my head I thought that BSBs lost their ability to grant rerolls when refusing a challenge but that's only when it's actually fleeing. Its a weird area of rules. Characters can't grant leadership when refusing a challenge, but can give BSB rerolls, but not a +1 for holding the banner because they'll no longer be in the front rank, but other magical effects of the banner and other unit effecting magic items would work... This spurred me to check other editions, 7th and 8th edition seem to have the same as 6th! In the fanmade Warhammer Armies Project and The 9th Age a BSB wouldn't grant the reroll, that must be what I'm remembering.

I forget if the unit champion was still alive at that point. If he was, the skaven player could have forced the champion to decline the challenge and would have been able to hit the BSB.

@benneem do you have a page number or errata for that? I had the same question and can't find anything in BRB or errata. WFB Discord 6th channel also doesn't seem to have clear cut. Best I've been able to get so far is "it doesn't say you can't", which is unsatisfactory - it doesn't seem in the spirit of the BSB to get the effects from a cowering fellow!

Wow what a roller-coaster ride that was! I was sure the Skaven were done for after the Turn 2 Dwarf Shooting but surprisingly held their own until the end and could have (should have?) won except for Stos' unbelievable clutch Leadership rolls just when he needed them tipped the scales in his favour. That Special Character really helped bolster the Skaven's attack power. I think Nev should have charged the Rat Swarms into the Dwarf unit threatening the Skaven's flank rather than chase that unit off the board as that would have prevented the panic check and any flank charge for another turn or two...but hindsight is great thing! Anyway another enjoyable batrep - thanks chaps!

That was a nail biter there! Those skaven put up one heck of a fight! Too bad the miners took a wrong turn at Albuquerque. Maybe the map was upside down or something? I would have loved to see them get stuck in. Also, those old school skaven models have a charm of their own. Excellent work!

Bit of a pointer for next time, the storm banner only affects non-magical warmachines. The reasoning is presumably so that skaven can still shoot a warplightning cannons, weapons teams etc. (because warpstone is magical) while it's active but it also means a dwarf warmachine with at least one rune can shoot as normal!

@@nevillebrackenreg4037 You are actually correct. The errataed effect reads that "No flying movement is allowed and all missile fire is at -2 to hit. All war machines and other ranged attacks that do not use BS may only fire if the player first rolls a 4+ on a D6 (roll for each model). Magic missiles and other ranged spells are not affected." Magic missile is a very specific game term - a spell or spell like effect which targets like a missile weapon - and does not simply refer to magical missile weapons. All ranged weapons and war machines are affected whether magical or not.

Recognizing this is an old one (but new to me!), but Stos did you give any thought to defended obstacles (attackers hit on 6s if I recall) for the flank charges over the fences? Probably wouldn't have changed outcome as general still failed panic, but curious how you guys were thinking about them.

I'd love to see a 2 vs 2 battle. Something like dwarfs + empire or Bretonen or dwarfs. Where the dwarfs have been xalled in and can repay a 100 year pld debt. Enemies could be skaten and orcs or somethinhg. They are Attacken an important farm/mill/mine

Mate, I'd love to have an Empire player on the channel. Just haven't had the opportunity yet. Though wheels are in motion. I've not tried Warhammer Armies Project. But it does look pretty good. I'd be relatively happy if the re launch of Fantasy followed it fairly closely.

I was reading through my old 6th ed rulebook and notices a mistake. Skirnishers do get the rear attack or flank attack bonus in close combat, they just dont negate rank bonuses. So the gutter runners should have has a +2 to their combat result against the dwarf gunners, tipping the result in rat favour a couple of times

You need a unit strength of at least five to get the rear/flank combat res bonus, and unit strength is calculated after the combat is fought. So no bonus for them.

With so many games where skirmishers butcher artillery and ranged dwarfs units, I would suggest to keep one small unit behind the frontline as a response force, maybe ranged as to not being useless when not intercepting.

Really nice to see those old, classic Skaven. Those I admired in the WDs before i joined WHFB from Farty K.. But the newer, 2000-ish was released shortly after.. I still like these old ones. But I never played them. Too weedy.. ;)

I've watched a few of your battle reps now and despite the dwarf focus, I think these are the best 6ed battle reps I've seen. Also I love seeing non-pitched battle scenarios(pitched battles get so boring after a while)! Any chance of trying some of the asymmetrical scenarios like ambush, last stand or rearguard? Also, those last few break tests were insane, haha.

There is +2 combat resolution for attacking the back of the unit, so gutter runners should have won their combat against thunderers ;)

What an amazing game! I am glad to see that you pulled it out in the end. 😁 To be honest, the skaven anti-dwarf hero felt like he may have been a bit too much... Have you considered ignoring all his challenges? Send your unit champ to the back, fight with the other characters, win with combat resolution? Or was that too cowardly a tactic for the dwarves?

it seems slightly dishonest to have your dice face up in hand and thumb and fondle them around before throwing. also because you can avoid the numbers on the sides of the dice. good form would be to hold them face down like your opponent. very cool game i loved the unit variety, setup and movement

No, the active player declares all charges at the same time, then before any chargers are moved the units being charged declare their response, Stand and Shoot, Flee or Hold. Once all the responses have been performed, then the chargers are moved

AFAIK, to stand and shoot you have to be able to target ALL the charging units. If at least one unit cannot be selected (los) you can't declare it. I could be wrong but I think is clarified in a faq. EDITED

No sir. 6th Ed is an older edition of Warhammer Fantasy, which was the original Fantasy battle game before it was discontinued and replaced with AOS.

I gotta say, there's some good content here buuut seeing every game be a static dwarf gunline shooting at everything (either always seeming to have the first turn and/or have all the hills) gets a little dull IMO. Would love to see some games that don't always play to their strengths and maybe that force them to adapt to different situations.

@@rogueelementgaming I did, it was a fantastic game! Having the dwarves so far up the board to start was obviously to account for their low movement but also meant that tactically not much changed since they were where they needed to be in the first half of the game (regardless of the final result). As I said love the content and it's your channel but I suppose seeing an army use 1-2 phases for each game doesn't showcase it's potential. How about getting that baggage train out and having an ambush as the Dwarves travel between holds or perhaps they themselves finally wreak vengeance on a Necromancer who has been raiding their catacombs for corpses and have them surrounding a force in the middle of the board?

I think you missed a +2 to combat resolution at 1:12:30 for a charge from behind so the rats should have won this fight.

@@otariman The only thing I find in the rules is that if a unit is less then unit strength 5, they dont negate de bonus ranks of the unit they are flanking or attacking from behind (p.73) I dont see anything about needing to be unit strenght 5 to get the flank or rear Bonus. If you could tell me what page to look for I would appreciate. Thanks.

Great battle report. However a few mistakes because I think you were rushing. First, the dwarf crossbows should have done a morale check after the Jessails cut them down to 2 models and critically the Skaven Warlord should have rerolled misses at the 1:45 mark. So the dwarves should have broken on a ‘4’. It is clear that the host was rushing the Skaven player so much that he missed this. So, great report but the errors decided the game.

Why QueekHeadtaker can have the Foul pendant? Isn't he equipped with only Gouger Dwarf Slayer and Warpstone Armour?

I was using the equipment listed for Queek on Page 118 of the Chronicles 2003 book, he has The Gouger, Dwarf Slayer, Warpstone Armour and The Foul Pendant included in his 300 points cost

Why Gutter Runners have 6+ armour save?! am i missing some updates in 6th edition skaven rules?!

Good question! Gutter Runners have no armour, so no armour save...

Sorry my fault, I usually play this army in 5th ed and always give the Gutter Runners light armour, so I just automatically said 'yes they have 6+ save' forgetting they dont get the option in 6th ed
