This is hands-down your best build video to date by a very long shot. Not only are the techniques you used incredibly accessible to all levels of hobbyists, but your final product punches WAY above its weight in terms of the cost and effort required to pull it off THIS level of quality. There are also a number of different directions your audience could take this to truly make the build their own, and fit into their own fantasy world. I strongly, strongly encourage you to keep going in this direction for your content. Grimdark is all the hotness right now, and there’s no better way to explore that aesthetic in a fantasy setting than Mordheim.

My friends and I built a whole city with that bricklaying technique about 12 years ago. Eventually I just switched to etching bricks into the foam, that was much easyer and faster. It also tended to last longer as the bricks had a tendency to crumble a bit.

So, after watching your latest Mordheim video (about the new game you've been invited to, Oct 2022), I had to go back and rewatch some of these older ones. Fantastic as usual. The one thing that I did not seem to realize the first time I watched this two years ago, was that you did not prime the terrain before painting it! You just slapped that paint on! Interesting... Anyhoo, I love watching your work. I was a patron for a while but had to drop a few months ago because of financial constraints, but maybe it is time to join once again! I do love your videos, old and new.

Nice work Eric! These look great. For what it's worth, here in the UK at least, they've started making XPS in black. It's a godsend for any brick-based build, because with the pink or blue stuff, no matter how assiduous you are with your painting, there's always a bit of the base colour that shows through, usually in the cracks between bricks. Black foam deals with that and also guards against later damage revealing the foam.

Don't do it. I think I got to book ten or eleven and couldn't remember who half the characters were. I read them one after another so it's not like I just forgot due to not having read the books in a while. You would need photographic memory to follow the books all the way. Like you said, it started off brilliantly then gets gradually more complicated and just not worth it. The Gaunts Ghosts and Gotrex and Felix books are brilliant fun.

Very nice effect, especially the woodwork. If you want glass in some or all of those leaded windows, try acrylic gloss medium: set the mesh on wax paper and paint the medium in heavily and let it dry. Surface tension will keep it attached to the mesh. You can even stain it if you want. FYI, "basswood" is pronounced like the fish, not like a musical instrument.
@EricsHobbyWorkshop
@EricsHobbyWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Doug, sounds like a cool technique i will play around with that someday. As for pronunciation, I knew that once and somehow forgot while filming. Cheers
@dougsundseth6904
@dougsundseth6904 3 жыл бұрын
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop Depending on the viscosity of the gloss medium, you can also often "glass" the openings when the mesh is upright. But it can be a pain to keep it upright until the medium dries. If you lay the window down on wax paper, the look is a bit different but you don't have to worry about orientation. As to pronunciation, at least we're not talking about "Drow" (which rhymes with "bow" ... one way or another 8-) ).

Laying layer upon layer of individual brick/stone is quite tedious, but understandable since your goal was to create ruined buildings with a detailed interior. As with much of model building, patience is the key, and there is no "Royal Road" to getting the look you want. Excellent work!
