My wife and I enjoy watching your stories unfold. We own both WHQ95 and Dungeonquest, and there's nights where we enjoy the tough. kick yout butt games. You bring your stories to life,and that's where you shine compared to play throughs that came out of the adventure books. Thunderian ,and all the band, are very likeable,well, not Tabitha but you intended that; you're a great storyteller. Stephen King is one of the best at making his characters likeable, and that's why he has been so successful. Keep going, liking the added D&D flavor. We enjoy your style. Have fun!

I have only recently found your channel, and I really appreciate the time and effort you are putting into these videos. The storyline is great, and I can't wait to see what happens with Thunderian, if he recruits a totally new party, or maybe some relatives of the original party (I often do this, using sons, brothers etc). Or maybe he gives up totally? Do not worry at all about the rules, and forgetting little things, we all do it, and there is so much to keep track of with four characters. We can point out some things, but it doesn't matter in the overall scheme of things. This game is really brutal, and it is meant to be - I have had several parties die on the first or second tile, it just happens. In the objective room in the last episode I was surprised when you didn't run away after seeing how well stocked the room was. It was too much for level 1 characters, and how it ended was inevitable really. You could maybe have had the heroes fight just the main enemies (the hag queen, her attendants, and the assassin), or just the hobgoblins. That would have given them a bit of a chance, I think. Any changes you make to things for the sake of the story are fine, and understandable, just do what you think is best. If it goes against the rules, or alters the rules, it is fine. One last thing is that when the heroes level up they get luck counters at certain levels, and a luck counter allows them to re-roll a die. You really need to save them for the right time, like when the wizard fell off the bridge for instance. Page 42 of the Roleplay book describes them. They can make quite a difference, but you have to level up first.

Thundarian with his two amulets of infinite wealth is a great character. What made Game of thrones refreshing to me when it started was that no character was holy. It was always a question of if I dare to come attached to one because they could be gone in the next moment. You make great and likable characters. It is exciting to find out where they end up. In the last dungeon everything could have gone differently and for the longest time I felt there was a chance until it was clear there was not. To me that is awesome storytelling. The rng and the masterfully woven story around the outcomes brings joy to me.

You could have Thunderian gather a party so he can become stronger so he can avenge and let his fallen comrades get peace. Maybe he will be troubled by visions of his dead friends and that drives him on! What would you like from us viewers? Ideas\Suggestions for adventures, rules etc? I thought that it would be a tpk but then that Thunderian had that ring saved the day (kind of) Keep on the good videos and Long live Thunderian!!!!

Hey Johny, I totally agree with you regarding coherent monster portfolio of a particular dungeon. I simply dislike the games throwing odd monsters from different corner of one dungeon. When first tile brings humanoids, another one is occupied by undead, followed by swarms of different creatures, overridden by filthy demons. That doesn’t make any sense, unless you say something like they have been summoned by a mighty wizard, what can be acceptable argument time by time. An overwhelming objective room such as the Cauldron tile is not necessary in every adventure. I love that story development with the bottomless pit disaster, building a new bridge and trying to rescue your wizard with an assistance of escorted cleric. That is a Great inspiration for my own gaming. Your idea to bring more classis D&D elements to WHQ is welcome. I confirm that WHQ can serve as agnostics platform for fantasy solo gaming. Your original WHQ warband was classic fantasy group and I appreciated it. For the future would be great to see something less common. Let’s see who your barbarian can recruit. Btw. have you heard about League of Dungeoneers? If not, checked that out. The author mentioned a lot of similar things you did in this video. The current crowd funding reached more then 2k%. There is a huge hype around it. gamefound.com/en/projects/von-braus-publishing-ab/league-of-dungeoneers-expansion-and-2nd-print

I enjoy the story but for me it's the characters which make it. Even if they die you can still make a new team with the surviving original team member and when he dies you will have established new characters to take the story forward. The Warrior I like him his bad luck just makes him entertaining and out of all the characters he was the one I though would kick the bucket first but obviously someone is keeping a eye on him lol. I like your style and GMing also the DnD elements do not bother me as that world is very similar to the Warhammer Roleplay setting. It's all great stuff 😂. You could incorporate a way for big character villains to escape - I know in Advanced heroquest you could get as GM and escape Token which could be used for a Villain character to make a dramatic escape and fight another day.

Have you looked into Advanced Heroquest. You can tailor that much easier in my opinion. Infact it needs to be tailored to get the most out of it. You can theme things with specific monster matrices, not every ending is an epic monster room, theres more story. But continuing with WHQ95 I like our ideas and yeah Thunderian is cool. Last session where it was him reading the ruins and it didnt work I took this as him just thinking he could read it and it made me laugh

Over the years we have found that the best games are those where you think your characters aren't going to make it out alive, use up all your one time items, and then get out of the dungeon with one hitpoint left. Dungeons that are complete walk-overs are boring and dungeons where you all get slaughtered are frustrating. But I have also found that game balance was not an easy thing to achieve when I designed my own quests/adventures. The only guideline I had was what was in the original material. The original WQ Roleplay book has ten tables you can roll on for monsters suitable for your level Warriors/PCs. The first original expansion, Lair of the Orc Lord, has three orc themed monster tables: level 1, level 2-3, and level 4-5. This expansion also has a pre-written adventure in it designed for Warriors of battle-level 2-3, and assumes your Warriors have played through the Death Below Karak Azgal adventure in the WQ Roleplay book. The second original expansion, Catacombs of Terror, has five Undead Monster Tables in it: level 1-2, level 3-5, level 6-7, level 8, level 9-10. The pre-written adventure, Dark Necropolis, is meant for Warriors of Battle-level 7 or thereabouts. Now, the argument I am trying to work towards here is that your Warriors/PCs are still at level 1 and you aren't taking that into consideration when choosing their opponents. Here are some examples I based that upon: Example 1 The level 1-2 Undead Monster Table in Catacombs of Terror has only one entry of Laranscheld (& Minions) in it (roll 63 on d66). For the Minions you have to roll a d6 on the Minions table: 1 = 1 Tomb Guardian 2-3 = 1d6 skeletons armed with spears 4 = 1d6 zombies 5 = 1d6 ghouls 6 = 1d6 skeletons armed with swords So an average encounter with Laranscheld at level 1-2 is with 4 skeletons. Which makes your Laranscheld encounter where you got the Grimoire Necris a bit tough. To be fair, it was an Objective Room and granted you got out (barely which made it an epic episode) without bending the rules. And the Objective Room Table with Laranscheld in it is the one from Catacombs of Terror and he shows up with some Tomb Guardians and skeletons on whatever you throw on the d6. But I really think Objective Room Monsters Tables from both Lair of the Orc Lord and Catacombs of Terror took into consideration that the Warriors at least had gone through Death Below Karak Azgal. Fighting through Deep 1 & 2 of Death Below Karak Azgal your group on average collects 8000 gold (this amount is solely gold found as treasure plus monster gold with every 1d6 roll resulting in a 3 for monster numbers and leaving out any unexpected event gold). At the start of Deep 3 it reads that after this Deep all the Warriors should be able to get to level 2. Example 2 work in progress/to be continued .....

@@DiceLifeJohnny precisely! It’s always hard to find the sweet spot but even getting near it is good enough. And because of my background I like to compare it to levels of education children are exposed to. They can enjoy school success when they are challenged at their own level +1. Lower gets them bored and higher gets them frustrated.
@jayandreas1131

@@DiceLifeJohnny I think it is not bad to have the episodes end in Objective Rooms, but the level of the Hag Queen Objective Room was just overkill. And I get that we all want the most spectacular looking games, but level 1 Warriors might not be ready for that kind of drama. So, either start with higher level Warriors, or scale down a little to give your characters a fair chance. Not weakening them by sending them through a bunch of Imminent Danger Travel Hazards again probably will make them stronger than your first group too ;-) Maybe having the phrase 'Am I giving them a fair challenge?' in the back of your mind, might be a good way to remind yourself constantly of things like toughness, etc.? Might even want to consider having your new group with Thundarion as leader go through Death Below Karak Azgal and turn it into the definitive video of that quest on KZfaq?

@@jayandreas1131 I had a feeling right away that it was over kill. Ya I think if we do have objective rooms for every dungeon I’m gonna stop the recording process for a bit and really look at it to see what adjustments need to be made. Thanks for all your ideas bro!
@jayandreas1131
@jayandreas1131 9 ай бұрын
@@DiceLifeJohnny also, in multilayered rooms it might be a good strategy to stick together (to lower number of attackers per PC) and make moving up your main goal, as attacking an adjacent player on a lower level gets you a +1 on your to hit roll.
