In this week's episode I share with you my recipe for the best Halloween drink for a cool October evening, warm mulled cider! Along the way, Mayumi and I take you with us on the last of our Halloween Home Decor Hunting trips to Joann Fabrics, Party City, Pottery Barn, TJMaxx and Marshalls where we find some great items for Halloween decorating year round as well as loads of helpful baking supplies for our upcoming Halloween baking episodes! One of my biggest regrets this year was not buying a yard or two of this one fabric I saw at Joann's, all the way back in August. It was called "Favorite Haunts", and it was a print styled like vintage travel stickers, with movie monsters on them. There was an Egypt sticker for the Mummy, and a London sticker with the Wolf-Man. There was even a sticker for Japan, with Godzilla on it - he's my favorite! The only reason I didn't buy any right then and there is because I wasn't sure what to do with it. I've been back to Joann's a couple times since, and haven't seen the fabric. And when I looked online, it's sold out absolutely *everywhere*. I'm so mad at myself for not getting some when I had the chance.

A local winery sells their black wine in a skeleton decanter during halloween and I always have to get one each year. I have so many bottles now that I keep a row of them in my kitchen filled with mundane things like dried beans, olive oil and salt.

It's a sad shopping year due to all the circumstances :( Not only are there slim pickings, but I don't want to go out among people here because they're all being stupid and not being safe. I've honestly found most of my stuff to redo this year at the dollar store! You didn't need to add sugar to the cider, you two are sweet enough. Excuse me, I need to go get my insulin. ;)

its probably a long lasting lipstick that dries down. to take that off you need to use oil 😉

I got spoiled growing up cuz my parents always made sure to have some on hand for their cooking. Nowadays I have a hard time finding any. Too bad, its just amazing in fruit pies and jams!

Cardamom is amazing with apple(and pumpkin)! I have a huge jar of it that I've had for years, when my store was getting rid of their bulk herbs and spices. I know you are only supposed to keep ground spices for a few months(which seems rather a short time to me), but this is still fragrant. And I hardly use it, since it's so rare in recipes. I usually use it in Indian food, and like I mentioned, in my apple tart and homemade pumpkin pie spice.

Hello Mr. Voltaire, I just want to say how much I enjoy your videos. I’m not Goth at all, I’m far from it. I’m just a country girl at heart and a grandmother on top of it. But I’ve laughed, I’ve cried and felt happiness while watching your video’s . Your range of content from crafting to interviews are all very well done and much appreciated. I’m so sorry to hear that your family doesn’t respect you for who you are. As a mother, of a son that is 25 now and no matter what he does or dresses like, I could never stop loving him as long as he is happy I’m happy. He saved my life when he came into this world. I was in a very dark place at that time and in a very abusive marriage, but his birth change everything in my world. He was my world and still is. So as a mother I feel so bad for you that you went through all that you did and are still going through. If you ever need someone to listen, I’m here for you. ❤️

Yes -- anything "art deco" was huge in the '20s and '30s. During the same time, anything "Egyptian" was huge, too. King Tut's tomb was discovered in 1922, and afterward the "Egyptian" craze took off for about the next 10-15 years. That explains all the snakes, beetles/scarabs, and mummy themes you were finding. And let's not forget: H.P. Lovecraft was into it, too! .

Man, i've been a fan of yours since 2006-2007. I've listened to all your stuff so naturally i had to make the cider. I have to tell you it was THE BEST cider i think i've ever had in my 37 years. I took some to my parents because they make holiday cider every year and they loved it. I told them you made it and they said they were going to check out your music (This will be interesting) lol. In my country, there is almost nothing gothic or halloween themed. You can find some cheap paper or plastic stuff around this time of the year, but that's all. So I would be glad to have those "we found even less halloween items" stores. :D

I put up a halloween tree. Black spruce with spooky hall mark decorations, mini plastic pumpkin buckets, purple and acid green ornaments and witchy black and white ribbon for a garland. I even use a plastic cauldron for the base.

Greetings Voltaire, Madame Mayumi. My house never got trick or treaters, never mind dressed up anything but the mailbox and some of the windows, when I was a kid. But as a "mysterious and spooky" adult, I always make sure to dress myself and light some candles to send out good wishes to my friends, living and dead, who cannot be with me on the triumvirate of 'days the worlds of the living and the dead are connected'. Mulled cider is one of my favorite drinks, a great thing to enjoy when Autumn and Winter come around. Personal experience with prepping this libation has taught me to take out the spice sachet when you are initially done brewing it though, as leaving it in will make the mixture undrinkable after a few days. (I have yet to make a spice mix for cider from scratch, although it looks fairly easy to do. Adams and a few other stores sell pre-made mulled cider "tea bags".) How interesting that the stores I would usually go to (TJ Max and Marshall's) don't have as much variety this year as Michael's, Party City, Big Lots, or some of the other stores covered here and in Mexico City.

You can bake the apples, Orange, and cinnamon sticks after and use it for potpourri. Just bake it on low untill it completely dried out and stick it in a dish with some cloves and anise.

I was offered some cider in France and I don’t drink alcohol so I kept asking if it had alcohol in it and my friend insisted that it did not, one sip told me otherwise!! She said she didn’t consider it to be alcoholic because it’s such a small amount, lol!!

Found a couple fun things for my lair at my work (Lowe's) and Walmart. An iridescent sugar skull cat mug, a projector light like you saw, but Nightmare before Christmas themed, and a black pumpkin with a skeleton wedding inside that plays a funeral durge version of the wedding March 😊

If you have a spooky black Christmas tree, you could put it up now. It becomes a Halloween tree that will then be a Christmas tree after Halloween is over.
