Finally a Kong movie where we don't do the same story all over again. This Kong is the best after the 1933 film. a lot goes on this movie. Skull Island is amazing to watch again and again.

Honestly an underrated movie. Granted the characters and story are very plain and simple, but the action is fantastic, Skull island, all the strange creatures etc are super cool and interesting. The cast is absolutely stacked, plus it by far has the best cinematography in the monsterverse. Has some gorgeous shots.

This fight rules and gives a sense of weight and size with the water. Much like with Pacific Rim, the water gives a sub conscious marker for us viewers. We all know how fast water spills, drips, falls, what have you. The fact the water takes forever to fall and roll off these creatures gives us a sense of size, without other familiar objects in view.

One downside with this was that we never see the Big One next to the smaller Skullcrawlers. There isn't an impactful shot where we see them side-by-side and see just how much bigger he is. Sort of like how the male Muto was shown wrecking a boat and then perching next to the female who towers over him.
