La Cenerentola is Gioachino Rossini's version of the popular Cinderella story, an exciting mixture of comedy, pathos, coloratura fireworks and masquerade. This Glyndebourne production by John Cox captures perfectly the fairy-tale spirit of the piece, matched by Allen Charles Klein's imaginative scenery, distorted like three-dimensional cut-outs in an old-fashioned story book.

So sorry that Desderi passed away. I hope that his style and wisdom for these comic Rossini roles be studied by other opera singers. It is incredible.

Great cast, excellent staging and the sets and costume design makes me miss Allen Charles Klein so much. These types of productions were the best. We need more of this please!

Desderi, brilliant as always. I've always preferred Desderi as Dandini. He was made for that role.

This takes me back!! I was only 18 when I visited Glyndebourne in the late 1950's to be introduced to opera for the first time. That production had the wonderful Ian Wallace, and, (in my opinion anyway), the finest comic tenor ever - Sesto Bruscantini, and was conducted by Vittorio Gui. A suoerb experience, which began my love of opera thereafter! I very much enjoyed this production though. Happy memories!!

Love this production, the lavish design with a nod to Perrault, the wonderful ensemble work, excellent comic timing on everyone's part. Why on earth would anyone complain about the singing? It's one of the best--and my second favorite is the charming Barcelona production with Joyce Di Donato and Juan Diego Florez.

This is indeed a beautiful production , costumes and settings out of this world . I find this a very well balanced group of singers and excellent chorus ensemble . I am enjoying this performance immensely !!!

I love this version of the opera, it has a fairy tale setting that I feel better reflects the spirit of Rossini's music. The performers are so good!!!! More than 30 years have passed since the recording and I have not seen a better performance!!!

Oh, I am so sorry, as I have just found that Claudio Desderi has died in 2018. he was 75 years old. I loved him. He was a great Dandini (Ponelle), Don Bartolo, Don Magifico, both with Glyndebourne Festival. What a beautiful voice, and so great comedic skills. Rest in peace, Claudio. Grazie Maestro!

I have seen some other productions of this opera and I didn't expect to like this one either but this time I really enjoyed it. I thought the performances were top beautifully sung and well acted as well as the staging and the fabulous costumes.

Sehr schöne Aufführung vom Bühnenbild und auch vom Gesang her. Fast alle Rossini Opern haben immer viel erheiternde Szenen für die Gemüter. Die Musik und das Orchester sehr gut. Die modernen Opern kommen niemals von der Qualität heran, als die klassischen in der Tradition. Wobei die Musik und das Orchester immer gut spielen und die Säger und Sängerinnen ebenbürtig sind. Also kommt es viel auf das Bühnenbild und der Kleiderordnung an, das der damaligen Zeit entspricht.

Por qué no buscas la versión con Joyce DiDonato y Juan Diego Floréz también aquí en KZfaq?. Es mucho más vistosa para los niños, y tiene subtitulos en español. :)

forse non hanno la presenza scenica di Araiza e la Von Stade ma se la sono cavata bene... per uno straniero imparare a pronunciare correttamente la nostra lingua (e testi dell'800 come quelli di rossini poi...) non è affatto facile

Parece que soy el unico español que ha disfrutado enormemente de esta gran opera de Gioachino Rossini. No me importa. Rossini y Mozart son mis dos grandes favoritos en la opera.Respeto a quienes gusten de otros compositoress pero es que a mi no me gustan las operas con finales horribles o sea tragicos y el campeon de todos ellos es Puccini con sus tremebundas operas de TOSCA, LA BOHEME, MADAME BUTTERFLY y TURANDOT.A mi tanto en literatura, como en teatro y como en opera prefiero los finales felices y no los tragicos. Rossini fue un hombre alegre, vividor y amante de la buena comida, sobre todo de los canelloni. Por eso engordo tanto pero supo combinar muy bien lo dramatico con lo comico.Todas sus operas me encantan porque era un hombre de espiritu positivo y no negativo como Verdi, el citado Puccini, Leoncavallo ¡caray con sus PAGLIACCI y CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA, Bellini y Donizetti.

Заключительная ария - просто кошмар какой-то. Просто мааамааа!... Финал 1-го действия, конечно, проговорили шёпотом. Безусловно, есть места, которые исполнены безукоризненно, и всё же поставил минус.

Ramiro sounds like he's about to gargle all the time. Angelina is too under-powered for this.... Very strong dramatic values...vocal splendor?---not so much....

Lei di teatro non capisce nulla, fa solo il tifo da loggionista intenditore Questo è grande teatro per attori, scenegragia eccezionalmente creativa, costumi e regia A teatro ci si diverte, non si giudica soltanto: ma ci vogliono un piccolo teatro e gli inglesi per valorizzare un capolavoro simile? Ho visto Abbado alla Scala. non c'è pagagpne come messa in scena!
