@marcuslinton310

That channel was plenty wide, the boat in front deliberately tried to block the passing vessel, they steered directly in to their path, forcing the passing to boat to make a quick maneuver around them to the right. So, if anything, the front boat was in the wrong for deliberately trying to cutoff the passing boat who had plenty of room. You can see all this at 3:49... the front boat deliberately takes the same path the rear boat was going to take in order to block them. Pretty sure blocking other vessels was the illegal move here. Vessel B did not have to do anything in order to permit safe passage other then stay on the path they were already on and Vessel A would have went left and made it passed no problem at all, but Vessel B chose to block instead. Totally their fault.

It doesn't seem that there is a posted speed restriction. It sure as hell isn't a no wake zone considering the waves in the canal are larger than any wake you can create. I think the white boat would be cited for speed. Perhaps unsafe right of way violation, give the slower speed of boats in front of him. Other than that it's just being a dick. And if that were illegal jails would be full all around the world. Oh, and the video on the cell phone isn't going to accomplish anything. Unless the guy rammed your boat or committed some misdemeanor or felony offense.

Then the boat in front of them slows down more while also creating a bigger wake then the white boat. Some people don't understand bigger boats/inboard vs outboard need a little more speed to combat the current. Plus why are they going two wide going one way through the canal. If your boat can handle the canal don't take it down during bad water, and don't gang up on them and try to box them it will make the situation worse

This is why I got out of boating. Not the dealing with others, just tired of the responsibility as 'captain' in command. Not all situations are according the Chapmans. Some boats need to maintain steerage and that means velocity. Going too slow can get you "plowing" creating a worse wake than higher speeds. There is no easy answer but to suck it up, work with others, and work towards safe passage. This "I'm right, you're wrong, slow the F down" drama has no place out there. You're going out, be prepared to deal with it and don't go second guessing others. There are always exceptions, but in boating it is rarely 100% "the other guy's a d***." Why are YOU out there and can YOU handle what you know to be in store? Drive your boat, captain.

I really enjoyed this. As a sailor (meaning someone with a sailboat - and obviously I'd never be sailing in a waterway this narrow), I'm pleased to see powerboaters treating other powerboaters so badly. I thought they only did this to sailboats. I've been an unwilling participant in games of chicken,, I've been waked so many times I couldn't even estimate it, and I've feared for my safety on many occasions. And this is on a waterway with miles of clearance. These guys were doing it on purpose. And this is in "polite" Canada. When powerboaters are in their cars, do they get really mad at red lights when someone else has the right of way?

@mikenb3461 Жыл бұрын
@@2003BMW325i You can't relax and it is a lot of work, but that's the draw. Power boating is usually about a destination or activity that involves the boat more as a means to an end, For sailing, managing the sails with the ever-changing wind is whole mission. I can see how people wouldn't like sailing, though any time I have a powerboater on board they do get it and enjoy themselves. I doubt I'll make any converts, but they do ask to join me regularly.

The current is running well over 6 knots so the “no wake 6 knots” isn’t going to be an option but that doesn’t mean do 15-20 knots. What’s really stupid is running 2-3 boats wide in that tiny channel. Typical NJ/NYC types.

What I see here is all the people who bought boats during the pandemic and don't know how to drive them.. Some of those large boats need to be going at least 6 knots because they are inboards and they have to be moving water across their rudders in order to maintain control , The most dangerous people in the canal are those who refuse to maintain an adequate speed and present the danger to everyone behind them.

2:25 Cap'n clearly upset about something we don't see on the vid, but I like how he kept his cool piloting his craft through the result.

I've noticed few boats in your videos have proper weight distribution, they also don't generally have the motors trimmed for a more bow up attitude.

It looked like the boat slowed way down in front of the bigger boat, right before it passed them? The bigger boat needs more speed, I dont blame him for passing really, the guy was trying to make him slow down.

Every boat has their own 'no wake' speed where you can maintain control. I have one boat with a idle speed of 2.5mph and my other one is 7mph. Going through a cannel like this you have to go as slow as you can to maintain control.

I know there's a speed restriction, but honestly if a lot of these boats got up to planing they'd make almost zero wake and they's reduce risk of swamping too.

I was think that myself. Especially that first boat that was taking on so much water. They need to get on plane and get the water to the bilge.

If I lived near Point Pleasant, and wanted to get out to deep water, open ocean, i would surely drive a bit further south or north to a ramp with direct, quick access in order to avoid a cluster like this canal.

Had a 6 meter bowrider Renken with a 4 cyl Chevy inboard. Took that boat to wreck of the Vivian twice. Believe it was 30 miles off Shark River. Other boater would call us and say what the heck are you doing out here?
