Necros, please don't feel bad about doing videos on these addons, this was in no way your fault whatsoever, you made videos on mods that were good and the creator went psycho and trolled people with shock images, this isn't your fault whatsoever. :)

Man, i have 200+ mods installed in my game. I'm kinda worried about playing Gmod now. It's incredible how even having some fun can be dangerous nowadays. This world can be really miserable sometimes 😒 Thanks for the warning Necros!!!

Its a shame that people want to ruin and twist add-ons that we have loved i was heartbroken when i found out the trollface PM was removed it really sucks and hope it gets fixed i am glad that it got re uploaded

also beware smart interaction was also hacked so make sure to delete it as well if you still have it edit: the seat weaponiser 2: better vehicle bullets have also been hacked and have yet to be taken down off the workshop, it is not the 2016 addon but the extension to it

I feel you Necros. My stuff Grandmaster's Magic lightning attack was used without permission in Lightning Magic mod also the concept was used to gain popularity and lure a lot of people to download it. I'm sad seeing my stuff involved in this.

I was unfortunate enough to find out about these the hard way before they were being talked about or taken down. I happened to play the game on the wrong day and was given the wondaful sight of someone spreading their ass on camera right after loading the map. Luckily I managed to find what addons were doing this myself by some miracle but I was more upset that other people might have these and wouldn't be able to figure out what was doing it.

I'm pretty sure these modders either go crazy or just wait for you and other GMod KZfaqrs to talk about their mods just so they can easily update them to act in malicious ways. So no need to feel responsible about that. If anything, it's great you're spreading the word about them.

Speaking of which, I recommend everyone cleans their gmod library every now and then to avoid unwanted mods cluttering up. It's mostly a performance thing but it can help avoid some old mod you've only used once long ago getting hijacked.

good to know I still need to delete some mods manually, I guess I had a lot of unused mods taking up storage. this also makes me wonder if I got other addons from other games taking up space

Holy crap I never thought it'll be this bad ever since Space_Monkey_B put spyware in FNAF addons. I remember doing the thing at 2:49 with the addons folder way back in like 2020 or 2021 to clear things, because I installed a "Fredbear" mod with spyware in it. I still can't believe that damn thing has been in my computer for like three years. IDK how it even got in my computer, I think it was because of my friend's addon collection (SuperDean's FNAF Server Addons) since the admins on his server mentioned at one point he had spyware addons by accident, but they were later removed. (Or atleast removed from the collection, some admins still prob have it.) You know s### is real when Necros doesn't put a skit at the beginning, Jesus.

theres a console command to delete unused gma's, like those left from addons youre not subscribed to anymore, its "menu_cleanupgmas"

Very disappointing I have so many private collections that me and my friends use and some of these mods were included which makes me worry about what I may have done or what I could have caused It's not your fault Necros and you shouldn't have to apologize for the actions of others it's truly sad how people can act and how many people think things like this are okay I'm currently working on making 2 collections and I'm so glad that you made this video because some of the new mods that you mentioned were in this video I'm sure I would have found out sooner or later but you have helped me and I'm sure you've helped out others during these trying times

I recommend doing a full research of all the mods currently affected, because is way more than the ones mentioned in this video, there is a lot of steam discussions listing the mods that are currently confirmed to be affected, great video btw, if it weren't for you I wouldn't have known about this issue

The safest thing u can do is stay away from gmod for awhile until this stops

I’m truly disappointed of how the GMoD community is starting to turn out recently… It really sucks how there are people out there with malicious intent, and want to do disgusting things. Thankfully, these addons have been removed from the workshop; which is a good step forward! This is an average reminder to make sure you have none of these addons installed, that were edited maliciously.

I was really scared when I saw my mod Food SWEPS in this video. Please, do not mistake it with Food SWEPs Pack, which is already deleted. My mod Food SWEPS has nothing to do with Food SWEPs Pack.

It happened to me 2 days ago when i was playing a old map, i had a glitch where i couldnt pick up some stuff like the phone prop so i disabled the only mod i suspected "Improved Prop Interact" its also on the most popular mods page. However once i rejoined the map and clipped trough the ground i was greeted by a loud jumpscare that made me flip with some disturbing gore images of dead people then loud bass boosted music and a goatse. 2 days later and im still trying to process what happened that night ( *i was also exploring a haunted part of that map and i was listening to some creepy ambience on youtube* )

I remember I narrowly missed a goatse because I use the trollface pm a lot, and it didn't show up I looked and it was taken off the workshop. That saved me an eye bleach

I downloaded the lightning magic swep, but I had so many adding that the game would start crashing every time I started to try a new game(I believe I had around 600 addons). I wound up deleting everything just to be able to play the game, which sounds awful to some but I feel pretty lucky for being able to avoid getting spywared.

I am one of the users who used these addons, i was scared so much that i uninstalled garry's mod right after the screamer. I will not be able to play garry's mod again without this feel of fear from the screamer again. I hope those creators have been banned for this kind of stuff. It's been so many years, and this kind of stuff is still running. Back in 2009 a group of addon makers did the same thing, and it happened again in 2022. A year when garry's mod isn't that popular as it was. So many disgusting people in the garry's mod community, it makes me sick. Be careful with your addons from now on, don't let thoes trollers ruin your experience.

I had tall construct. I didn’t know it was tall construct that caused it, until this video. When I saw it, I uninstalled all my addons and even the addon files in the local files of gmod. Thanks for this vid. Also I don't know why but it was supposed to have had mining adware, but I only got the goatse screamer

[PLEASE READ] Gmod has updated and mods go to a new location. Mods before this update will be in the addons folder like said in the video but newer addons will be (on the drive gmod is in) but instead of going into common go to workshop/content/4000 The folders are each seperate addons, to know witch addon is witch, find the addon you want to delete on the workshop and look at its URL, the url will displace a bunch of numbers and that will be the folder name then you can delete that folder or whatever you wish

this actually happened to me a month back i loaded up gmod like i usually do and i load into a map and i was jumpscared by spongebob saying the n word and gore on the screen so i relaunched it and it happened again so i went to my addons and delete the mods untill it stop then reinstalled the working mods it didnt take long to find the bad mod because it was named "fuck you" so just be careful guys and watch what u download

Most of these mods have been confirmed hacked and or hijacked. Please do not blame the creators for something someone else did. It's not right especially when some of said creators are trying to fix those issues.

For all curious (warning NSFW) When you press w with one of the mods it will show a guy with "ding" piercings and showing his prolapsed "bottom" so be safe!

I'm pretty sure that all of them (if not most of them) have their uninfected versions reuploaded. So if you want them anyway, try to find the disinfected ones.

Also, there is a mod called "rage faces playermodels" which includes Troll face and other rage faces, since it wasnt the Trollface PM itself, I didnt get affected. I did have food sweps but I checked and it wasnt in my garrysmod addons folder.

I don't really know or remember what addon did this but, when i joined a normal game of garry's mod i was gonna make a funny video like those classic gmod videos, and when i went to the spawn menu to fix something, the moment i moved my mouse, a jumpscare popped up. now it wasn't that scary because it was just a weird face shaking on the screen with a jumpscare sound, but after that happened i tabbed out of gmod and closed it and removed all my mods. thankfully, my friend had safe mods that i gave him. he has also experienced a hack which was much worse than mine, which was of course the really bad images.

I actually encountered it and i got so confused and freaked out I closed my gmod immediately and I haven't played it since. I installed the food swep and that's probably what caused it but when I opened my folder like you said it was gone..

I'm wondering what the "end goal" is. The odds of multiple modders "going crazy" in similar ways in such a short timespan suggests a third party behind it. But... What's the gain? Knocking out some popular mods? If it was specifically for malware that they'd gain from they'd simply add the code and keep it quiet as long as possible, not immediately make it obvious. What do they get out of framing addon devs? I do find it a bit ignorant to just assume the authors are behind it and state it as fact to your audience without any evidence besides the addons themselves. It's a very real probability of being victims of a hacker.

Aren't addons installed in a different folder now? The addons that were uploaded before that particular update (which has been a long while back now) are still in that addons folder you showed. The addons *after* that update however are located somewhere else. The old addons are still here (as shown in the video): *C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons* The new addons are there: *C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\4000* The folders there don't have names sadly, instead they're named after their workshop IDs (The big number at the end of the workshop page link). You can sort them by date or whatever as needed. It helps finding the culprit by having the last updated addon at the top of the list. Replace *C:\Program Files (x86)* with whatever custom location you chose for Steam obviously. Well anyways, thanks for spreading the word! It's very kind and caring of you. Don't beat yourself over showcasing some of those addons. You couldn't have known. Nobody knew!

Something like that was in cites skylines last year, someone Uploaded a mod called network extensions 3 and well that mod had malware

so thats why the howler jumpscares and skinstealer jumpscares dont work

i started playing gmod from yesterday after not playing it for like 3 weeks, i seen something like about this warning on reddit, also i think stormfox mod also been hacked? its been on reddit that creator of the mod also gotten berserk. im so lucky i cleared my mods some weeks ago, i had over 1000 addons and i bet there was gonna be alot of them that had gotten berserk

After playing Garry mod for 16 years I think it time to retire from the game since more and more mod creators are becoming malicious or even getting hacked.

Dont feel bad for spreading them, they looked and played like actual mods, until the creator decided to update them with the crypto miner/adware. No one could of predicted this and you shouldnt feel bad about it

Necros I want to assure you: mining adware mods isn't actually viruses. They can work only when your game it's running. Adwares it's just an invisible window with ads playing in background.

BTW newer addons will not appear in D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons they appear in D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\4000\"ADDONID" it is best to put menu_cleanupgmas in console to remove them automaticly.

Do you have any tips on how to avoid certain mods, so that I don't add a mod that does damage to my pc? For example, I really like the ArcW mods (the one with the guns and attachments perks etc...), but I don't know if it is safe to use it.
