Bought my 36mm explorer from an AD, walked in bought it right away. It's a good size for my 7" wrist and i do not care about resale value.

@DW-py4up I did too, walked in, bought a 36mm Exp 1. Prior purchase hx was a OP 39 (in 2017) & a Tudor BB58 in 2022

@@DW-py4up I bought a tudor previously, I like the least popular 1926 model, hence able to get it after payment and a week for it to ship in. Other models like black bay and needs to join wait list. So demand is still there for rolex/tudor. I imagined it will be worse for rolex since it is less crowed up there in the luxury space in terms of numbers of "upper tier brands", that resulted in higher ratio of demand vs choices.

Does not make sense at all. What if someone wants a 28 Datejust and is willing to pay a premium for the security of buying a guaranteed genuine watch at the AD? Where does the "never ever buy at an AD" come in to play in that scenario? Same with all the other watches on the list. The presenter clearly lives in a bubble.

Can’t decide which sub to get. TT black and gold and SS. I have a friend who works at Rolex who can get me either watch in 30 days. I can’t decide!?!? I am 41 yrs old married with 2 kids. I am not a flashy guy so I automatically want the SS. But I like the TT look. I just don’t know if I would feel too self conscious in it since it’s more flashy. I don’t like attention. I like to be under the radar. I would also only wear it on the weekends due to my job and area I work at. Im not planning on purchasing multiple Rolex watches. So I want to make the right choice. I like the TT look but I think I would feel more comfortable in the blending original classic SS. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

So.....resale value should be my number one concern when buying the watch I want? My first expensive watch was a Grand Seiko GMT 6k...its still my most valued watch to me...I own two Rolex and a Tudor....Hamilton, Tissot, Seiko..G-Shock.....Grand Seiko is my Fav.....it has nothing to do with resale value....Im not a used car dealer I am the end user....Cheers.

oddly, explorer 36 is the only rolex I'd wear - it's minimalist and not showy. I also don't like motif bezel, cyclop, jubilee bracelet - they look old.

1908 is stunning and the only modern Rolex with an exhibition back, i tried in store it wears extremely well for a thin to normal wrist. I would picked it up in a heartbeat at 25k if they would sell it to me. The white gold version is great for those who wants to be a bit low key, yellow gold version is more flex.

You are completely wrong on so many fronts. Don't understand the comments about the Explorer. Also, I've bought a white dialled 1908 and it is a wonderful watch and very well priced new from the AD in my view.

What the guy is saying is complete gibberish. You have to listen to it. The topic is "don't buy these 5 watches from AD" and his statement is: "you'll wait forever for a 1908"? What does that mean? Don't buy a 1908 because you can't buy one? Did the guy slip in the bathtub? And then the two tone Sky-Dweller looks like shit? Wow. Since 2023, international sales figures have shown that steel-gold models have lost around 15% in sales volume, while solid gold watches have increased in volume by almost 4%. Steel-gold was suddenly traded particularly more well on the market during the watch hype because everyone was desperately trying to trade almost everything from Rolex. And DESPITE THAT, Rolex will keep the two-tone models in the line! Because they are traditionally part of Rolex and there are a whole host of customers who expect steel-gold models from Rolex. This ALSO applies to the Sky Dweller.

Sounds good to me. The Sky Dweller just isn't a good looking watch, the functions and adjustments are too unusual, IMO. All the popular models have one thing in common, the Oyster case, 100m water resistance. I'd say 100m and 200m are the best in terms of watches having a long life. Lesser cases like dress watches usually will suffer some internal moisture damage. Higher water resistance just adds more bulk and weight for most uses.

Love your work Adrian but I have to say that the sole reason you recommend not buying these watches from an AD revolves around the re-sale value plunging immediately after purchase. What if you actually like the watch and don't plan to resell it or "upscale' to a better model?

36mm for me is the best size to wear day in day out whilst wearing a shirt. 41mm and above is too big for me in my opinion. Also the Explorer 1 is a classic one watch collection 👌🏽

Oh! I have three Explorer's the 1016, the 14270 and the 39mm 214270 mk2 dial, I can't understand the absolute hate from second dealers regarding this model. I went to a dealer a month ago and he said he won't touch the 39mm version, he said it's the black sheep of the Rolex line. Sad to hear this, but I like it regardless, all I need is the time.

The AD is not going to make anyone buy anything they don’t want, however if you do like it but instead of buying from them you buy it in the secondary market to save money, well you will have no purchasing history or relationship with your local Rolex authorized dealer so don’t bother asking them to put you on a waitlist for any model that trades substantially higher on the secondary market!!!! Build a relationship with your local AD a lifetime of loyalty and they will probably offer you watch models that trade above Msrp without even asking for them!!!!
