That razor wire was mainly used by military, and it's a good thing it was in the water, because it was normally coated with an anticoagulant chemical so if you cut yourself trying to get through it, you'd be bleeding for quite a while!

The smaller piece with the sealed end and the two holes on the sides but also threaded on the other end is likely a blow-off protector for a steam engine it was meant to divert high pressure steam out the side holes so it didn't harm anyone because overpressure was always a concern with steam engines especially in indoor steam engines in a factory, which is highly likely for the time frame of items you are pulling out of the stream/channel.

A lot of young men's lives could have been saved had someone come up with this innovation been found a lot earlier. Will you give it to the National War Museum? Don't panic Mr Mannering 🤣 I love the way you lot take the p155 out of each other, really makes mee laugh 🤣🤣🤣
