Not too long ago, lords and ladies used to build castles and dig deep moats around them to protect their wealth and well-being from intruders. Today, luckily, people do not have to fear for their lives like in the old days, but businesses still do. Companies in a capitalistic society live in a cut-throat environment, where, if you happen to find a business niche that is exceptionally profitable, competition will come for you.
Our guy Warren Buffett loves exceptionally profitable businesses, but he also hates having these profits being taken away by competition. Therefore, Buffett insists that having a moat around the business castle is perhaps the most important criterion of all when investing in stock market companies. And he is not looking for small ponds either, these moats should be as wide as possible.
In this video, you’ll learn how to identify companies that can remain profitable in the long run, perhaps one of the most important skills that a value investor can possess.
---
Timestamps for understanding MOATS (the primary criterion of a great business):
00:00 Intro
01:26 What is a Moat?
03:20 The Key Question to Identify Moats
04:25 The Business Moats of Berkshire Hathaway
09:23 All Moats Are Not Created Equal
11:14 Finding Businesses with Moats Quickly

My goal with this channel is to help you make more money and improve your personal finances. How to become a millionaire? There are many ways to get there - investing in the stock market, becoming a stock trader, doing real estate investing, or why not becoming an entrepreneur? But whether you are interested in how to invest in stocks or investing strategies for creating passive income with rental properties - I hope to be able to provide you with a solution (or at least an idea) here. Warren Buffett - the greatest investor of our time - says that you should fill your mind with competing ideas and then see what makes sense to you. This channel is about filling your mind with those ideas. And in the process - upgrading your money-making toolbox.

Thank you Swedish Investor, especially for your videos about Warren Buffet's earlier strategy when he had smaller sums to invest.. I'm just wondering if your sum to invest is already so big, that is why you made a video about Buffet's more recent strategy about moats? I thought investor with smaller sums to invest should use Benjamin Graham's strategy? In in that strategy, Graham does not care yet about moats?
@TheSwedishInvestor
@TheSwedishInvestor Жыл бұрын
Hey Lev Erage! Cheers for the support, I do appreciate it! Buffett did indeed focus more on price and less on the competitiveness of businesses when he was younger. Graham did too. One should always strive to get both though. Even the most competitive business with the widest moat can be too expensive.

10:27 allow me to disagree here and defend META. ofc META isn't in "The Game" for so long because social media is still a new thing, and Facebook was actually the greatest and one of the first big social medias. For "the game" or "the market", META it hasn't been around as long as Coke, but!, in his sector (Social Media) it's been here for so long, and probably in 20 years, it will still be, because3 out of the 5 biggest social media are owned by META (Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp), and these are the communication ones, cause KZfaq is top 2 atm. Also, Mohnish Pabrai said META is going all-in in the metaverse but, if it fails, meta will still be a great company because of his earnings in ads in the platforms (social media platforms) talked before. Keep up with the good videos, I love your way to explain things and concepts :D
@TheSwedishInvestor
@TheSwedishInvestor Жыл бұрын
Cheers for the support! Pedro I think you have a good point here! I didn't pick Meta because I thought it doesn't possess a moat (it does). It's just a high-profile case because of FTC's actions. If Meta is a monopoly, there are lots of monopolies out there which are being overlooked in my opinion.

Around the 7 minute mark you made it sound like it was a positive that Apple people keep their Apple phone, due to not being able to transfer and having to relearn to navigate. That is also a negative for someone that has an Android to switch to an Apple. So it's not necessarily a good thing if you want to get new customers.

Want to be wealthy. Only one step make it happen, don't stop , progress it, cause time is money. SO don't think and dream. DO IT! Invest, work , exercise, grow something ...as long as it can exchange back money or healthy. So for just reading books it won't work cause it is still a dream. Books is only giving you ideas or wisdom but still not doing anything. If you don't read book , but just do the idea or wisdom will come to you too thru experience and not wasting time. Reading books is waste time, reading books is for the rich that get ideal to lead people helping them grow rich. You can read books but choose those which is in your field,that improve your job , business, any personal upgrade. But not the encouragement, just a dream books.
