However, it is completely stupid on Poland's part to attack Lithuania. Lithuanian culture until 1795 and then until the end of the Rusification was being destroyed and the Polonisation which took place during the Commonwealth times almost made the Lithuanian identity disappear. Thankfully there were some bright minded people who fought for their authority within the commonwealth and later on many authors started reviving the Lithuanian language. The capital of Lithuania - Vilnius, was then mostly filled with Polish speakers, NOT nationals. Those were higher class Lithuanians which spoke polish because it was considered a language of the higher class back then. After independence Lithuania chose not to join the Intermarium because the nation was sick of getting owned and oppressed by their neighbours (similarly like Poland, but with Germany and Russia). Lithuania wanted to finally be free and mind their business, but unfortunately, Pilsudski, while fighting back the Soviets decided to attack the Lithuanian lands. Mind you even after a ceasefire the polish army still advanced into Lithuania to claim more lands. Vilnius was always a Lithuanian city, it might hold historical significance to Poland's history, but Vilnius was always the one and only fortress, legend and center of Lithuania. The other capitals were just trading towns, and Kaunas was just a temporary solution. I want to say that I mean no offense to the poles or any other nation.
