From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth and He determined the times set for them & the exact places where they should live. God did this so men might seek Him, reach out for Him & find Him, thought He isn't far from each one of us. Acts 17. It seems Paul also believed in an historical Adam.

only thing is: if we're going to take the scriptures seriously (and I do) Genesis 10 states explicitly that the one man from which every nation was made was NOAH: _These are the families of the sons of Noah [Shem, Ham, Japheth & their offspring], after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood._

You are assuming that there was *_ONLY_* Adam, Eve, Cain and Able, however, scripture does not say this, but rather in Genesis 5 it says, "The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters." ...and so clearly, that is where he got his wife from.

If you start doubting the creation of man, you will start to doubt other things too. And you don't believe in the same God that the bible is talking about anymore, because the entire bible is God's inspired word. To me, it always feels weird, when people doubt the pillars of the bible. The fall of men is super important, God promising a saviour directly after Eve and Adam ate the forbidden fruit. I personally don't see any reason to doubt that. Yeah, it may sound like naive faith. But we need to belive the entire bible. The good, the bad and the ugly. The things we like, the things we don't like and the things we don't understand or that other people would consider crazy fantasies. I wonder why believing the entire bible is so hard? But it's probably an act of free will. The problem is here is that a pastor is attacking the bible or not caring enough to take a stand for the perfect truth of the entire bible. Attacks from outside the body of Christ are expected, those from inside (okay, they are also not huge surprises) are sad and unnecessary.

@@mbgrafix That's the fear talking. Nothing we discover about the natural mechanisms within creation can do anything but speak to the glory of God Who created it. Truth cannot be feared because God IS Truth. I will believe whatever is true while trying to humbly acknowledge that I may not know exactly what that is, but I went to study biology for the God-given love of creation and I thought I'd see why scientists concluded evolution and show them why they were wrong and within 2 lectures there was more than enough evidence painting a very neat and beautiful picture of growth and development. It didn't undermine the truth of Genesis any more than one of Jesus' parables being a work of fiction would undermine His Word. Although many atheists would certainly try to say that evolution does undermine the Bible, they're wrong. They think that's what they want. And many Christians won't have enough faith to face their evidence long enough for the real folly to be illuminated. These atheists will also tell you that historical evidence doesn't back up Biblical history but in this case they fail to follow the same reasonable inquiry and honest appraisal that led many God-fearing naturalists to see evolution takes place as surely as any change over time in this relative Universe. The evidence we find by seeking to know more truth backs evolution but it also backs the Bible and the Gospel.

Adam and Eve were real people. To say otherwise would be to reject a plain reading of the Bible. The way of interpreting the Bible the way that many people do; people who say that Adam and Eve were not real people, results in many many false interpretations, such as people saying that Jesus did not really raise from the dead, or that that Jesus was not really born of a virgin, and then they go on to state all their twisted interpretations of Scripture.

As a believer in the WHOLE Bible and a lover of science, I think it’s possible to not deny either one. The Bible is a book of faith, so it’s safe to assume that there will be a lot of things in there that you will have to bring yourself to have faith in. The purpose of science is not to create truth and any good scientist will tell you that. The purpose of science is to understand the mechanisms of the natural world. Evolution is a theory, not a fact (I would advise looking those definitions up, they are not the same). Evolution does not describe the origin of man, it’s trying to describe the mechanism by which we’ve come to all the diverse species we have today. Whether that is correct or not is still debatable, which is why it is a theory and not a fact. It is the best explanation we have (and if you ask me pretty flawed) that lines up with the physical facts that we’ve been able to establish through scientific inquiry. But even still, it’s not solving the origin of man it is just describing a possible mechanism of how we arrived at the current human we know today. So there is no reason to divide over the subject. As someone who loves science I find it hard to look at the mechanisms And machinery of the cell and not see the hand of a creator and designer. I mean, we don’t look at a car and say “wow this must’ve took millions of years for this to form!”. We know someone designed it, not only that but how many different types of Toyota’s are there( quite a few), and yet they all have a similar design...because they were all designed by the same company (or someone may believe that one Toyota evolved into the many we see today, and eventually branched off into Dodge, BMW, etc...to each their own). When I see the cells of a human and the cells of a plant and how many of the mechanisms and genes are Similar just slightly modified, It’s natural to think there must’ve been a single designer. This is a bit long but all this to say, as a believer we are called to have faith but also have a reason for our faith. The Bible says my people suffer for lack of knowledge...don’t run from science embrace it and see God in it and I can assure you, if your mind and heart is open your faith will even be strengthened by what you find. And if you’re not a believer, just realize that science has its limitations. It is good for explaining the natural, but once you start talking about God, you can no longer use the natural to explain the supernatural. At that point all you can do is have faith.

I appreciate your "long" answer and have only one thing to add. When the Bible and science appear to depart from each other then look to the Bible as true. Lean not on your own understanding, for without faith it is impossible to please Him.

@@ambition1008 Yes, it is amazing from the working of a single cell, to how they all combine into one body made up of billions, working together to produce a sentient being able to respond to our Creator, and yet some seem to think we came about by chance. We can truthfully agree when God informs us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. I simply cannot understand a Christian reading that and thinking we evolved from some sort of primeval soup. Adam was real. Y-chromose Adam shows us that we all descend from one single man. Just as mitochondrial Eve shows us that we all descend from one single woman. That is enough evidence for me, in addition to the Bible. It is wonderful how science actually validates what’s in the Bible.

John Piper is right that the biblical passage which is most difficult for the idea that the historical Adam didn't exist is Rom 5:12-19. In this passage Paul builds his understanding of sin on a specific contrast between two men - Adam on the one hand, and Jesus Christ on the other.

You are right that Adam's existence and the way in which he was created are 2 separate issues that shouldn't be confused. Gen 1-3 is clearly not meant to be interpreted fully literally. For example, in Gen 3:1-2 a snake plots against and tempts Eve, and animals obviously don't do that. So these verses have to be interpreted symbolically. And the same is true of other parts of Gen 1-3. On the other hand, it isn't possible to interpret Rom 5:12-19 symbolically. The existence of the historical Adm is a key part of Paul's argument in these verses.

Since death entered into the world as a result of sin, according to the Bible, then evolution does in fact undermine the Scriptures. There must be millions of deaths if evolution took the scenic route, so at what point does man actually become man? The evolution argument undermines the truth of Scripture in every way. I fear your way of thinking is so at odds with the Bible, and you have accepted it rather than God's Word, that you are on shifting sand on every doctrine.

If Adam and Eve were special creations, we wouldn't know anyway. But if you want to interpret contradiction then you are free to. I don't think that our suffering from death is as scary as you do. It happens. I will die. In this physical realm we are all doomed and we doomed ourselves. Perhaps you are correct and somehow an effect of sin just makes it look as if our structures evolved too.
