It’s weird to see the hype for this because I literally didn’t start fully playing Destiny 2 until halfway through warmind I believe… A part of me misses mini expansion content like this over the basically same seasonal content we get for the most part now. Curious to see the next chapter with episodes. Literally this right here are three different ways now that Destiny has changed the way they have done their content. Nice to see you react to this Mr. Gray, and I hope you’re doing well. 🫶🏻

I remember vaguely doing the grind to unlock the weapons which had a great aesthetic and decent perks for the time (still locked rolls). I cant recall if it was this season or another that allowed you to change the affinity of a weapon (arc, solar or void). Infinite Forest was a nice idea but it wasn’t accessible in normal play and had pretty much set routes in the missions/strikes that involved it. There were some cool secrets and lore hidden about Mercury and the missions as well, with some hidden chests you needed to solve mini puzzles to access. Mercury as a destination was small and bland, 1 Lost Sector, 1 rare public event and few secrets to be found. To me though Osiris was nothing like the character he was almost hyped to be as the Guardian so strong only the most elite players could join the game mode he created. The character we met seemed brash, easily angered and frustrated, prone to taking strange risks - not qualities you’d expect from one of the most accomplished Guardians to ever exist.

Curse suffered from the problem that came with vanilla d2, it was basically a better season and had some amazing strikes.
@DragonKnight900013 ай бұрын
Weren’t players at the time complaining that the 2 strikes on mercury were just the story missions.
@ballaxx31503 ай бұрын
@@DragonKnight90001 because at that time it wasn’t normalized, that’s the entire point of this retrospect that what was hated on in curse is what’s normalized now yet curse still wasn’t nearly as bad hell we got more strikes in curse then lightfall or beyond light. And yes the formula of strikes definitely have changed back then in d1 it was more self contained stories with unique settings but d2 is more like longer and more developed story missions and also are usually presented like halfway throughout the campaign as like a filler. My entire point is just that curse even with it being a disappointment is that at least we got a new “raid”, the infinite forest, finally got to see mercury and Osiris and it had some unique things about it and some cool weapon designs when nowadays we can’t even get half of this in a season which hopefully changes in final shape with episodes.
@cbgray3 ай бұрын
I would agree with this statement. A lot of the blame it shouldered (not all) was definitely because of the systems put in place from Vanilla D2.
@Noname-ol8ef3 ай бұрын
@@ballaxx3150 But tbf, the raid honestly sucked, mercury was a disappointing destination (it was literally just a doughnut, and remember 3 tokens and a blue?), while the introduction of Osiris was good, some of the other characters where pretty iffy (*ehem* Sagira *ehem*), and the campaign was kinda bad. The only thing that was good about CoO was the infinite forest and some other loot that was unique at the time.

That being said if Curse of Osiris was released now….. players will definitely still see it as a horrible dlc.

Everyone would stop playing destiny if it came out, the whole lightfall reaction was primarily just because the story was so bad, Curse is a slightly better season and not even close to a dlc 😂
@cbgray3 ай бұрын
@@Blue-qt8ms I think you can't look at it like that it feels like the wrong way of thinking to compare it to Lightfall. CoO was less than half the price and was honestly mainly bad due to the awful systems put in place during D2 Vanilla. I think this could go toe to toe with a season of something like a 30th anniversary which was also more expensive btw. (This is all assuming CoO would come out with the systems put in place in todays D2)
@DragonKnight900013 ай бұрын

Credit where it's due, CoO having 3 PvP maps is huge. But 2 strikes vs lightfalls 1 strike is a bit disingenuous considering the 2 strikes are reused story missions from a campaign that was almost 3x shorter than Lightfall.

@Lynxee30043 ай бұрын
If you loved it, you loved it. The reason it mostly got hate was because it was rather lacklustre, considering it was supposed to be an expansion. It was basically, campaign was a glorified string of adventure activities that weren't really engaging, the poi activity was a glorified public event with currency that was given to you in dripped amounts so you could buy meh weapons that inevitably got sunset, even though the HC was alright. The infinite forest, although it was different every time, was just procedurally generated boxes with a few red bar enemies here and there, which isn't very impressive. Just a lot of wasted potential really.

The Infinite Forest was a pretty big letdown, albeit there were parts of it I did enjoy. We got a pretty banger strike with it as well. The story was negatively affected by too frequent use of the Infinite Forest. The other missions were fine. The boss still holds up imo. One of the best boss encounters in the game TBH. The loot was fine. Considering we got both CoO and Warmind in that year, I'm perfectly fine with it tbh. I look at CoO more like a season anyways. And when you look at it like a season rather than an expansion, it's better than most seasons. If episodes end up being like CoO and/or Warmind, I'll be perfectly happy.

I played it with my friends everyday and we all played the story together, did the prophecy weapons and got sagiras shell (I still use it to this day) later went on to trials, and the leviathan and the new raid lair. I know the underbelly of the leviathan like the back of my hand to this day. That stuff always intrigued me and I played it for the lore and not for the quality of life. Amazing game and incredible developers at bungie. This game has been an awesome ride and I can’t wait to see how it ends. Me and my hunter are ready. Lightfall is an annual expansion that costed $50 for the base edition. Curse of Osiris was $20 at release and was a mid-year expansion like Dark Below, House of Wolves, Warmind and 30th Anniversary. Curse of Osiris was also included with the deluxe edition of Destiny 2. Saying Curse of Osiris is worse than Lightfall is not a fair comparison as they are two entirely different expansion types. Although even if you were to compare them, I'd argue that Curse of Osiris is the better expansion: Firstly: campaign wise, Curse of Osiris had the better story considering the trainwreck that was Lightfall's story. Panoptes was an intimidating villain and getting to meet Osiris for the first time was interesting. Secondly: destination wise, while Mercury was smaller than Neomuna, it was much more packed with content and more interesting overall. This is primarily due to the adventures that Mercury contained (something sorely missing in current day D2) which gave the side areas of Mercury much more depth and made it feel more alive as there was more going on. Thirdly: weapon wise, the Curse of Osiris exotics and weapons were slightly better than Lightfall's. Using the forge on Mercury to get the Curse of Osiris weapons was new and innovative and many of them were quite good (I still have the pulse rifle which was the No Time to Explain before No Time to Explain came to D2). Fourthly: PVP maps and Strikes wise, Curse knocks it out of the park. Lightfall introduced one new strike while revamping 2 old ones (which made them way worse) while CoO added 2 new strikes that were both great. Crucible map wise, CoO added 3 new maps while Lightfall added one which came way after launch. The only edge Lightfall has on Curse of Osiris is strand which was it's main selling point from the beginning. But price wise, Curse of Osiris was way better value for your money and if it was released as a season today, everyone would be praising Bungie for it.
@TheKirbster12343 ай бұрын
Honestly I played both I will say curse is 100x better than lightfall
@cbgray3 ай бұрын
I think where I am at is Lightfall is "better" solely because it being a product of the many life and health updates the game has received over the years. Curse of Osiris is only "worse" because of the very bad systems put in place by Vanilla D2 (Double primary, no random rolls, etc.) If both expansions existed in a vacuum and we take into account CoO was less than half the price of Lightfall I'd definitely be leaning CoO especially when this model meant we had another 20 dollar dlc coming in Warmind a few months later. Mini DLCs over "Major" ones if it means what we've gotten.
