So Dell wasn't first, well, not exactly, but we're not too sure what we think about this monitor. Is it something of value to have it curved or even at 5K? Well, maybe, but if you're going to release it now, it needs to have HDMI 2.1 at least!
The monitor isn't available yet but see Dell's other monitors at lmg.gg/5dC12

Dell monitors have always been pretty well designed packaging wise. I wish more companies took note. I also wish more companies did what Apple do with the iMacs and their displays by having the front of the box open downwards so you can take it out while it's stood up in its natural position (look for iMac unboxings if you're not quite sure what I mean).
@youfreaker
@youfreaker 3 жыл бұрын
I'd guess its because the material is more expensive, more labour intensive, and therefor costs a considerable amount of the margin on screens that do not have an MSRP of over €2.000. Extra fancy packaging for screens is hardly something consumers base their display purchase on, and its only a 'nice to have' feature for high end displays, such as this €2.000+ screen. It simply does not make sense sacrifice a significant amount of the profit, or raise the product price for something that does not attract customers

Just a thought, I'm pretty sure that there are people out there who use computers for something else other than content creation or playing games. I have the 38" model and love it. I can plug in one cable for charging the laptop, video, and USB accessories. The 100 watts power delivery (I know the new one is 90w.) allows me to run something heavy and the battery doesn't discharge even while plugging in. When I have a meeting just unplug one cable and get going. The wide screen is enough for a browser, IDE, and a terminal opening side by side where I don't have to turn my head as in the dual-screen setting. Anyway, love all of you guys' channels! They're really fun to watch :)

You'd consider this monitor over the $1400 LG for a variety of reasons. Because it's 6" larger, higher resolution, and it's also got a KVM included, which can be convenient (when it works). It's also got a non-reflective finish. It's not a game monitor, but that means that it's taller than a gamer monitor, with extra vertical resolution--content creators need those extra pixels in the vertical direction!!! We need at least 4k/UHD, and having it "5k" wide is NICE! I don't think the LG you showed can do everything this monitor can do--that's obvious. I've had this monitor for maybe 6 months and paid $1,689.99 total. Is it worth it... My biggest gripe, besides the price, is it's VERY hard to get to the ports because they all face the desk. The monitor is big and bulky and hard to move around. Picture quality is GREAT. And for writing software you just can't beat the horizontal size of the monitor--you can see very long lines of code. You seemed to be biased throughout the video and trying to get people's attention with a hurry up and get it done video. Thumbs down.

I bought a U3419W in December to go with my M1 MacBook Air and also replace my Apple 23" Cinema HD and 20" Cinema Displays I was using with my Linux box up until then. I might have even bought this one instead if it had already been out then… What I like is the full build in TB Hub including ethernet, so after I move, I might get this one for my video conferencing setup, so I can hook up my monitor, capture card for the Sony A7, ethernet and keyboard and mouse all with one cable which would be pretty sweet (plus, I think it looks a little bit better than the U3419W and is a little larger, which is nice when you can really only connect one external display)

@tim3172

How are TVs becoming more monitor-like? BTW the definition of a monitor is a display without a TV tuner while a TV is a display with a TV tuner. So this monitor is exactly as "TV-like" as any other monitor.
@HemanthKPDesiGamer
@HemanthKPDesiGamer 3 жыл бұрын
TVs have now got better ports than this monitor has! HDMI 2.1 is now becoming a norm in TVs. Also, TVs have started to have high refresh, low latency displays with game mode that makes it close to a gaming monitor than some of the actual monitors currently available. BTW, by adding a TV tuner card to your PC, you can use that for cable TV as well! With most of the world moving to streaming services, cable TV is becoming more and more irrelevant. As such even the TVs are moving towards becoming better monitors.

I am actually glad they are brining a 40" back to the market, even though its only an ultrawide. I could game on this pretty well if it does do 75hz. I wish they would bring back more 40 inch 4k displays. I actually found it to be the sweet spot in most games instead of 32 inch 4k. The 40 inch 4k allows some games such as MMO's to give larger HUD and toolbar displays. Easier on the eyes then the 32 inch 4k. I would love if they would make a 40inch 4k IPS 144hz monitor. But this ultrawide is not bad at all, except for the price. Should be perhaps $1200 or so, not $2000!

Around half a year ago I got great deal on the MSI 5K2K ultrawide for around 900 USD. By far the best monitor I've ever had and for video work I couldn't go back to 16:9 or lesser res. This peaked my interest as it's bigger, but actually offers nothing more and costs twice the price. But a good video, thanks.

I’ll bet I can tell you why this is coming out now. It’s for the “work from home” people. Built in KVM and laptop charging? IE bring your work laptop home and switch back and forth and not need a bunch of extra cables /keyboard/etc. I bought a USB switch and USB-C to DisplayPort cable to do the same thing.

These new high (or at least, moderately high) PPI ultrawides are coming out now for M1 users who are stuck with only one external monitor and have to replace their dual or triple monitor setups all the sudden. You can go with 49 inch screens like the Odyssey G9, CRG9, LG/Dell 49 IPS (same panel for the last two), but the PPI is very low by Apple user standards. For this niche, I think the Dell 40 inch will do OK, as will that 34 inch 34BK95U-W you mentioned. They're all basically substitutes for XDRs.

I use the LG 5k2k, and it's very nice for a lot of tasks (in my case programming/sysadmin) - but it has very bad image burn-in. It's basically unusable for photo editing because the burn-in is so noticeable. Also it has only 2 USB ports in the hub, having that many ports on the Dell is really nice. Having said that I'm not a fan of curved displays. I just wish someone would just improve on the flaws of the LG and make something in a similar size but with more modern features and fix the burn-in issues.
