Prime example of a game being judge based on its predecessor rather than what the new developers set to achieve. While flawed in some ways the game shines with its exploration. The environmental puzzle solving and interaction are leagues above the original game.

I will never understand why they didn’t just call the game Luigis Mansion 2: The Dark Moon

On its own it’s good, but as a sequel to the original it’s not quite what people wanted.

NO! THIS IS STILL MY FAVORITE LUIGIS MANSION TO THIS DAY!

What I really liked about dark moon was its focus on puzzles and the gem and boo collection quests. The original only had the most basic of puzzles like lighting candles with your fire energy and such but dark moon, and especially the Twisted Mansion, sometimes felt like Zelda dungeons. I also really liked how much better the combat worked for me. On the other hand I think the ghosts of the first game were better overall. I was always very annoyed by the ceiling ghosts but the ghosts in dark moon don't feel threatening at all (except for the first time you see the mummy, but even that turns out to just be a greenie). Still, it is not as bad as in the third game (where the ghosts really no longer feel like proper ghosts at all, more like imps or something like that, just look at what they do on the disco floor). I think combining what made both games so good, the controls and puzzles of the sequel and the atmosphere, the ghost and the story design of the original would make a truly great game.

the value of the mission structure is replay, allowing you to just replay a single mission and having a star to go along eith it is great in my opinion, it also allows the mansions to evolve with time and meant you where only able to get certain gems at certain points, it would be perfect if after completion you got access to the whole mansion at once, but not having that makes the mansions more mysterious early on

I love all 3 LM games, personally. They're all different, but also good.

personally I never really liked this game. The pacing felt really slow and the bosses were pretty bad. But I will admit it did have its moments like the Scarescraper and King Boo's fight.

90 hours? Ohhhh no . . . I have over 400.

No first game has better atmosphere and music

If anything, they absolutely killed it on the online port
