Tldr: in some ways neji was right, in others no. I want to make this clear. I get where neji is coming from. I get he's angry and can't really do anything about it and I know firsthand how that can tear someone apart. neji is right that some people are born with a favorable hand, the main branch of his clan, the Uchiha, senju, etc all have immense power. But Sakura, who has no special genes whatsoever, is one of the greatest medical ninja of all time. naruto, the loser kid who struggled with the most basic jutsu, is now the hokage. And Lee, who worked around his handicap of no ninjutsu or genjutsu. These characters are proof that talent, good genes, aren't the end all be all. Destiny is not top dog. You are.

I mean. Honestly. Neji's reasoning is accurate to the world as we know it. The only people in the 1% have always been in the 1% generations down the line. We live in a world where truely talented people are not chosen over those already in positions of power. It's a naruto twist on the ventures of the world we live in. I love Neji's story because its my own, its the story of so many low class born children. No matter how talented, how successful, how much you try, the odds are immeasurably stacked against you. Even now, as someone who owns my own business, who clawed my way up, I'd never reach the heights of someone already born on the top of society.

Very true but if we continue to live by that mindset nothing will change. I came from a lower income background as well, homeless as a child and grew up in an abusive foster home. And I just got accepted into a doctorate program. And it wasn’t easy, I failed many times, and often had my own bosses and peers tell me I wouldn’t amount to nothing. And that really affected me as someone who didn’t have support, no parents or a support group of any kind. But as cliche as it sounds I really did believe in myself, I wanted people to underestimate so I could rub it in their fucking faces when I succeeded. And when I got accepted into my doctorate program those same people who doubted me congratulated me and wanted to be my friend. All I’m saying is don’t let this awful world beat you down into submission keep fighting ❤. Cause If a poor, loser with no parents who grew up in poverty can do it, anyone can trust me 😂

Did y’all click on the video to just ignore what he said and comment stupidity? Lmao Neji dying when he died to die for Hinata who was willing to die for Naruto out of his own free will just like his father once did for his brother quite literally shows you Kishi didn’t forget anything about him. He wanted to establish a roundabout way to instill the fact that one’s destiny is in their own hands. Neji’s conclusion does just that, Hinata’s dialogue with Naruto prevents Naruto from wavering and strengthens his stand against Obito, furthering their dynamic and its role in the series as well, which at that point is the most important part of the series. Neji dying when he did also happens to once again give viewers the understanding of how destiny works as it has been established since the chunin exams because it will be relevant in the final valley fight between Naruto and Sasuke. It doesn’t exist for shock factor as it contributes to 3 significant and different elements of the series. No shock factor death has ever had that level of writing behind it. Y’all are unfortunately illiterate.

It's actually because of his complexity, strength and internal struggles that makes Neji one of my favorite characters in the franchise besides Hinata, Sasuke, Naruto, Shikamaru and Kakashi. People also have to realize that true freedom is actually the hardest thing to maintain. Neji felt like he was in a cage, but one can argue a person is inside cages within cages. Society's rules and expectations are one, but the most significant is the internal one, the part of yourself that tells you you'll never be good enough for anything. In his song As You Are, Chris Daughtry says, "you build these walls to keep you safe, it's like a prison you can't escape, if you tear them down, you just might hear me say" and "you wage this war within yourself, wasting time dying in a shell, they don't define you, just know they never will". It's a beautiful song and one I highly recommend if you're feeling lost or alone, or even having an identity crisis.

This, Neji as we meet him was a bitter, arrogant child of trauma. Who thought that if he couldn't change things (alone) with all of his potential, then how could anyone else. It enraged Neji to see Naruto still believe in himself, in spite of his obvious short comings. Why wasn't he angry and bitter too? Society had decided Naruto's fate, why wouldn't he just accept it? Neji may have started out blind to the prison that society had built around him but, Neji built his own cell and called it home. Thankfully with good freinds I do think he felt free before the end. He deserved the opportunity to thrive/fly but so did all Shinobi children.

I believe you are right. Another thing too, we, the audience, don't actually get a revelation as to why the split in the Hyuga clan exists. Where did it come from? How did it degenerate into branding the branch family like slaves? The same thing happened to the Otsutsuki clan on the moon led by the Hyuga ancestor Hamura, and though in a reversal, conflict still happened. It took someone outside the clan to highlight their flaws out in the open and I don't see anything unfortunate in that. An outside perspective can do a lot, like those of everyone watching this.

When speaking of Naruto's mental fortitude, and not giving up on his friend like Hashirama did, I'd argue that the circumstances are different. Hashirama's fortitude was no less, or even greater than Naruto's. When told killing himself could end the war with the Uchiha, Hashirama didn't hesitate for even a second, and put a knife to his throat. Later on, he fought Madara because he was planning on destroying the village. Hashirama didn't fail to save his friend, he made a choice. There was no "Both" option. Naruto on the other hand, did not have to make the same hard choice. Sasuke's actual damage to the leaf village was minimal at best. One could argue he killed Danzo, but it's not like Naruto cared. Even Sasuke's plan at the end of the war wouldn't destroy the villages. What if Naruto had to make the same choice as Hashirama? The Konoha or his friend. What if it had been Sasuke who did all that damage instead of Pain? Killed Kakashi and all the other villagers? Still think he'd try and save Sasuke?

He was the ONLY member of the konoha 11 to be appointed to Jonin in the beginning of shippuden and he surpassed his entire clan, one of the strongest clans in the most powerful village, at the age of 13. He possessed unparelleled chakra control, THREE chakra natures, and his potential was easily the greatest out of all the main characters.

Neji “choosing” his death only shows that his kid self was right. Ultimately, Neji becoming jonin, him learning new skills, etc, didn’t matter as much as training Hinata, befriending Hinata, acting as Hinata’s shield in the war even before he died. He became the exact person his kid self said he would. He lost his identity to the main house. He fulfilled his destiny. He had the same nonchoice his father had. If it can be said that Hizashi would have been forced to throw his life away anyway, what would’ve happened to Neji if he hadn’t stepped in, or if he was somewhere else, not playing the role of her protector? If you can’t be 100% sure that Hiashi or another main branch member wouldn’t have punished him or killed him for not doing his duty, then it was a nonchoice.

It’s telling that no one after his death talks about his accomplishments, or his dreams or desires or what he was leaving behind. He neglected his studies and some of his training, which has resulted in him nearly getting his ass killed several times over but he had the power of plot to save his life. Naruto had a difficult life, but I definitely would say he was equally blessed. There are too many aspects in Naruto's life to suggest he's not supported by fate. Yes, he may have stopped the cycle with him and Sasuke but it looks like it continues on with Boruto and Kawaki in some manner.

Its also sad kishimoto never developed the Byakugan like he did with the Sharingan into MS into EMS into Rinnegan. It just fell short when all the crazy stuff was unfolded for the Sharingan when in classic Naruto they were like rivals. It would give Neji more relevance and screen presence showcasing his raw talent and new skills developed through hard work. Its the same issue Kishi had with any side character. And even every female character. His most developed Sakura was still very weak in the end when his childs of destiny just got powers gifted by the creater of ninjutsu. Its sad. More like at that moment, Neji was a bitter, pessimistic kid who thought "hE uNdErStOoD tHe WoRlD" through the lens of his experience with pain and inequality. He originally thought he could prove himself out of 'his place' in society. After failing to accomplish this by demonstrating his apptitude, he gave up on the notion that he or anyone was capable of bringing change. This was a spiteful, angry and frankly arrogant mindset. Why, if HE couldn't change things with how great and talanted and smart HE was, who was Naruto to think that he could do what Neji couldn't. Why wasn't he just like Neji, why couldn't he accept the lot that life had given him, how could he still believe in himself? I remind you this was the mindset of a child, a traumatized child who no longer believed. With the help of his friends Neji was able to grow past this mentality. I hope he felt as if he had truly lived, before he died. Dying not by obligation but by choice, a choice I'm certain he made freely. He did deserve to truly fly free in a world without war no longer shackled to the cage within his mind. Beyond that, Naruto's entire deal was the cliche "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take".

Naruto was destined for greatness. To have the strongest tailed beast sealed inside him, to be a descendant of the Uzumaki clan and the reincarnation of Ashura, he had to be the child of prophecy. He had a difficult life and was lazy initially but you cannot say that he was not meant to be the strongest shinobi. He always was and that was his destiny. Neji was bound by the shackles of fate and that was his greatest tragedy. His life ended exactly the way he said it would. Naruto vs Neji is a fight to be studied for a long time. Incredible writing.

Look I really want to believe naruto was in fact a hard worker and he is but the series still shows hard work does not beat out natural genetics nor fate. Yes he mastered rasengan and shadow clone and even sage mode but dont forget the only reason he was able to do so was entirely because he was the jinchuriki of the hidden leaf. nobody wanted to help or train him until they found this out nobody else was given the attention nobody else had these ties by family nor history. for just one moment go back to the zabuza mission he would be dead due to the poison of the brothers, dead to haku's kekei genkai, dead many many times over without the ninetails helping him. It doesnt matter if the ninetails didnt like or even hated him he was able to always cash in the get out of free jail card every time. If the richest businessman in the world personally tutored me and every time I made a decision where my company would go under he bailed me out when I finally made it could I really say I was a hard worker? Sure I kept at it I made mistakes and I spent nights doing this practice but the only question I have is wouldnt most people be able to do this with this much safety net if they had a moderate amount of work ethic? poor lee and the others never stood a chance and I love naruto he is a good guy and a genuine/ naïve soul but he still had his hand held and led by the people around him its a real shame. because it just shows the reality of life and if you were not born into the favor of genetics or destiny then you either suffer, get lucky(something like the lottery ect), take it from others, or become the best you can be with what you have that will still not add up to the best but good for you to try. :(

When you take the story into accnt as a whole it's plain obvious Naruto always had some kind of a divine luck or permanent buff. That's why i think the only characters that really represents the theme of hard work over destiny and fate are Might Guy and Rock Lee. Might Guy busted his balls to learn a forbidden jutsu that his father pioneered. Didn't have a Tailed Beast, kekkei genkai, or one of the former Hokage. Just blood, sweat, and tears! If Guy failed, he had nothing to fall back on. He even gave himself obstacles like 200 laps around the village on his hands to conquer any mental weakness. He risked his life by opening the Gate of Death and gave Madara an ass whopping so hard Madara proclaimed him as the greatest taijutsu shinobi. And Lee, well, his fight with Gaara says everything lol Naruto get get capped at certain points. Like being forced to not use the Nine Tails chakra. And there was the severe self-damage his rasenshuriken inflicted upon him that rendered the jutsu imperfect and unusable. But consequences never last very long for Naruto.... Not permanently like they did Neji.

You know, my take on Neji's death isn't as cut and dry. Kishimoto literally admitted to killing Neji for Naruto and Hinata's development. For Naruto actually pay attention to Hinata for once. Uniting by mourning over Neji seemed promising in hindsight, but actually was a really terrible idea that didn't pan out to shit. Neji shouldn't have died for Hinata. He had no other option but to choose to die for something that was somewhat in his control. So, he died to save his cousin. Whom he loved and if we take hints from Naruto SD, and how the Hyuga clan operates; then they're may have been more than familial feelings involved. Neji was like the canary in the coal mind. Telling everyone that Kishimoto didn't do shit to solve the Hyuga's issues. In fact Kishimoto is a very staunch believer in maintaining the status quo. Anyone not satisfied with the system is either written off, killed off, demonized or becomes a Naruto ride or die fanboy. Sasuke had real grievances, Neji had grievances, and Rain was given a false promise by Naruto for change. I notice fans really don't like discussing the darker, harsher underlying issues regarding the Naruto-verse. It's inequalities, aristocratic military, the genocides, the nationalism and propaganda. Konoha isn't absolved from any of that. All of the darkness concerning murder and etc... Was pinned on Danzo. Despite other characters being fully aware and compliant by inaction and association. There's a dissonance when it comes to appraising the series objectively, because it's more of a power fantasy. Then one that's seen mirror our world and the ugly nature of power and humanity. Power begets more power, as violence begets more violence. Yet that's the currency the Naruto-verse runs on. Ninja's like black ops and weapon dealers need war and conflict to thrive. The villages attitudes and treatment of the jinchurikki tells us as much. If Naruto and Sasuke weren't the powerhouses keeping checks and balances as they were, then someone would've definitely tried something by now. Villages, towns and leaders can agree in principle, but realistically in hindsight..... they'll be happy as hell when Naruto and Sasuke are gone. Becoming Hokage for example is layered in nepotism. Nothing in the Naruto-verse is free of manipulation and influence. Free of consequence to just be on one's own merit. Smaller towns and villages affected by the war and overshadowed, as usual would've had issues. Rock Lee is a truly gifted opponent with no chakra of his own, but he has hit a glass ceiling. One limited by his lack of status, clan and ordinariness. I viewed Rock lee's positivity as bright and gleeful shield hiding his inability to prosper beyond his limits. Since there will always be someone more powerful then he is. So, he shines bright despite it and refuses to be ignored or pushes aside. Rock Lee carries a recklessness that deep understanding of despair and futility brings. Knowing at his most powerful (i.e. the 8 gates), he'll burn bright and burn out. Regarding Neji, this character had a lot to live for. But the ending of the series was very stepford and unrealistic. Neji had to die to put a lynch pin in recognizing that Hinata and the main branch didn't do shit to change how things operate. I say he committed suicide willingly, since that's the only way he was going to be free. The series rarely shows any of the lower branch and if they do....they are men. The women in this clan are out of sight and out of mind. Living behind the walls of Hyuga laws and restrictions; within a compound that rarely lets anyone below a certain status in. The Hyuga being one of the great noble clans, have sovereignty, has money and the connections to flaunt. They are like the Rockefellers. This clan has a specific phenotype like the Uchiha's. Both clans were more likely to practice endogamy in order to preserve their kekkei genkai's. If we take into consideration heir archy, class and the way the Japanese and Koreans viewed class. Since the Hyuga's do share similarities to Korean dynasties. Then the lower branch were and are never going to be free. The main branch uses them as sacrifices. Since they consider their own lives to be Worth more then that of the lower branch. That's why the only females we see are heiresses and Hinata has Nej; while Hanabi has Ko. Neji's death wasn't even valued since he's often demonized by sects of the fandom, or the narrative, seen as arrogant and lesser then with fans stating he deserved to die for Hinata for how he treated her. Despite them completely ignoring the division abd invalidating the slavery and bondage taking place in this series. Fans identify more with the royalty then the abused. We see this time and time again. Fans agreeing with the Uchiha genocide and etc.... Naruto didn't teach fans how to think and recognize injustices. It taught fans how to minimize them and make excuses; since their favorite characters were often of higher class and powerful clans. The Hyuga's realistically wouldn't end a system like the bird cage seal. Sadism and class warfare is built heavily into it. Neji's father expressing anger at hinata's lack of competency is realistic, but him getting punished for it shows the lower branches voices and autonomy doesn't matter. Hinata being allowed to literally be disinterested, unengaged and unaffected by her own cousins plight speaks volumes at the difference in privilege. Fans praise her for chasing and obsessing over Naruto yet get upset when criticism is made against her lack of purpose, lack of interacting with her backstory and being able to coast through the series with very little growth or change. She's willing to die for Naruto and constantly tries to yet has no consideration for her own cousin; whom she knows was raised to die for her. Even upon Neji's death, the words that came out of his mouth were used as a stepping stone to highlight hinata's feelings. Guilt trying Naruto and basically stating Hinata is willing to die for you, now both of our blood are on your hands. He was thrown away to elevate someone who didn't do shit. I'd rather Hinata actually die like the tragic romantic she tried to be then Neji paying for her inability to think or move Naruto out of the way. Hiashi had more sympathy for Neji then Hinata ever died and she showed no concern either. Neji was a prodigy that should've been clan leader in order to show realtime growth and change. While Hinata had no real will or interest in doing anything that requires hard work and putting herself out there. For example admitting her own attraction and feelings without the narrative of the last fanfic doing for her. Completely absolving her of maturity and the risk of seeing less then perfect and infallibly human. Or even being willing to beat Hanabi to retain her status in order to not burden her sister. I think this video could've been deeper the. This but regardless, I appreciated it. 🙃

It's not surprising that fans don't wanna acknowledge the dark side of the village if you take into account that naruto himself doesn't seem to care that much. In the naruto vs neji fight, neji talks about how he's a slave to the main branch and he can't do anything because of the mark on his forehead, naruto brings up the fact that he's a jinchuriki. But naruto is free to do whatever he wants, neji isn't. he doesn't try to understand him. After the fight with naruto hiashi says his father chose to sacrifice himself, neji suddenly forgets about how fucked up his clan is, while hinata has clan members who will probably be killed if anything bad happens to her (pain arc) . When he dies, the clan's situation is never brought up again. It's not a romance manga it's a shame he had to die for a naruhina moment. When naruto finds out the truth about itachi, he was confused and couldn't understand why sasuke didn't wanna go back to the village where his clan was murdered for no reason and everyone thinks of his brother as an evil person. Even now the village doesn't know the truth about the clan. Again naruto doesn't acknowledge the villages fault for what happened to the uchiha clan. They can defend the uchiha massacre by saying that the clan members were planning to overthrow the leaf, but the only reason they did that is because they were treated unfairly by the village. Madara left the village because his clan was treated like shit, but the rest of the clan stayed because they didn't want another war and what did they get? Are we supposed to think that them not liking the way they were treated is not right and killing them is justified? They didn't even try to talk things out. By their logic, sasuke wanting to destroy the leaf is also justified. They learn from a young age that the village should be above everything else even your family. Sakumo, kakashi's father, chose to save his teammates instead of completing the mission and was called a traitor for not following the rules. He ended up committing suicide. Obito was the only one who criticized the system by calling scum those who abandon their friends.

Fanfics have don so much better in recognizing these facts and portraying them honestly. Naruto as a Hokage is as awful and hypocritical as I always knew he'd be. Fans hate when you critique this character, because of all the protagonist centered morality and self insertions. A realistic Naruto is just as interesting, more in fact but it's damning to the fanboys. The way they fawn over nationalism and fascism... really makes me wonder if they ever read a book, watched a documentary or learned anything about history. 💀 Normalcy and being average or normal in this universe is like a curse and the fandom knows it. They'd rather railroad over all the evils and trauma and hate on characters that brought it up. Sasuke get masive hate yet he's a nuanced character, because he's so grounded in realism. The fandom hates it though. So, they'll act like everything's fine. That Naruto's indifference didn't matter and his son's specialness isn't from genetics and being chosen. Naruto lost Kurama but before was able to pull out Baryon mode and now some super Saiyan looking shit. What happened to hard work. Naruto would rather die then be a Normal because he knows how unfair the ninja world is. He wanted power, to be adored, and prestige with none of the responsibility.

correct me if i’m wrong but in naruto classic didn’t hiashi initially say hinata was no use for the clan and didn’t care if she’d die on missions as a genin in team 8? and her effort was partaking in the chunin exam even if no one believed in her becoming strong enough to become anything more then an asset? shippuuden did not do anything with this plot point i think

I like the video but let’s get this out of the way compared to sasuke , naruto barely trained to reach that level , sasuke was training his ass off since 7 years old to scrap with itachi while naruto was sipping bowls of ramen , we were only told he trained hard in part one and the few times we were shown how he trained was either something like a month (for rasengan) and bare in mind he wasn’t even a hard worker in the academy, at most he worked hard for like a month and that’s it , neji and sasuke the series geniuses worked for years to reach their respective levels and sasuke had to fucking use curse mark to push himself back to the top even with his blessed potential, naruto put on some work but he certainly didn’t work that hard compared to the rest

I believe some people are like Kakashi and Sasuke are Born with gifts like skills to master things relatively easily . While others like Guy or Naruto with a different type of gifts but in no way lesser . That is their attitude of never backing down and mental fortitude as you said of giving twice the effort as others. Everyone in real life also has either of these skills. People only fail when they fall in love with others gifts rather than nurturing their own. And hence eventually despair.

Very good Analysis on Neji. I never really thought about the fact that the leaf village actually does know the happenings of each clan so they're not only aware but are ok with these practices. It's actually kind of crazy to think about but it's still messed up that the only autonomy of choice they have is to choose the way they get to die. Neji deserved so much better he could've really been the future and bridge to a new way the Hyuga conducts themselves

Not to mention That Pervy sage at some point was poised to be number 5, but he rejected the post and gave it to Tsunade, I wouldn't be surprised if he was supposed to be Number4, but he saw it as too much of a hassle. Edit: Neji wasn't wrong, especially if you think about how he was programmed from a young age to serve the main house, I will say he was far gone to either side, but he wasn't wrong. Naruto still would have stake to the Hokage seat because his dad was Hokage, Sasuke was never going to be Hokage because he is an Uchiha, all the people in Naruto sort of had predetermined destinies, the only thing is none of them knew their destination. Whilst as Neji knew that his destiny was for him to die for his cousin, only difference is Neji focused to much on his destiny.

You get power cliffed the second you're run into someone who's trained long enough with a KG. Might Guy with full gates active still needed some help to overtake such a massively amped up Madara in the war for example.

@@marinenico1993 That Gai needed the help of numerous other skilled ninja to get to that point, and to even get into a situation where he could hit Madara with Night Guy otherwise he'd have been killed by the truth seeking orbs when Minato went to block them? Also the attack ultimately failed to do anything and Madara survived leading to Kaguya returning? Not to mention the gates would've cost Guy his life if Naruto hadn't deus ex machina'd him back to life. Its shallow writing and i was disappointed in Kishimoto for it. He tried to twist it in "Neji dies for Hinata but he is okay with it and its by his choice". The problem runs much deeper. Its not just about destiny. Its not just about a moral dilemma. We are talking about a stolen life. A stolen future. Stolen freedom. Neji was right. Many would argue he matured from his younger self. I agree he did in some ways. He understood not everything is predetermined and crushing others dreams is wrong. However when it comes to his own fate, he was always right. And he was spot on with his hatred and anger. He was faited to died for the main line and he died for the main line. The burden put on him came true. For the short life he lived after the exams, Neji knew no freedom but involuntary illusion created by Naruto and Hinata. Illusion that gave him false hope for himself. That he can live a life he wants. That his circumstance was something he could overcome. But unfortunately those pretty lies cant make the curse mark on his forehead disappear. Hinatas kindness and Narutos attempts to convince Neji his faith isn't decided cant change reality. Neji stopped hating Hinata because she proved she was different and kind hearted. He started liking Naruto because he "proved" him wrong and inspired him. However here comes the question - Do pretty words change reality or do they merely put a mask on reality's evil truth? I say its the latter. Hinata may be different but that doesnt change her blood and where she comes from. She still comes from the line that enslaved Neji. Hinata is still the oppressor who he is forced to give his life for. Even if she didn't want it. She is his curse. Kindness wont change that Naruto was never in position to tell Neji he is wrong about himself. He is just an outsider who could never understand what its like to have your life stolen away from you and forced to serve somebody else. He is quite literally an anti thesis to Neji. Naruto was the most free a man could be because he had no clan and wasn't force to do anything that isnt his choice. He decided his own faith. Meaning he is the furthest person away from Neji. Years after the war, Hinata and Naruto banned the seal ritual. New generations dont bare it. Their words of kindness ended up being real in the longer game. And they did prove to be different. Their kindness is the reason there will never be another Neji. They changed things for the better........however it was too late for Neji to witness or experience that. Nejis reality was tragic. He was right about how he will live and how he will die. Denied the choice of future from an early childhood, Neji lived a slave and died a slave. Never knowing true freedom but mere lies of those who never understood him.

yeah this. i love hinata, but she was reduced into such a non-character and never allowed to actually grow. i would've loved for her to find her inner strength by realising she could use her kindness for a good cause: becoming the head of her clan, standing with neji against the older, traditional folk, and ending slavery. and that, in turn, would be the actually legitimate reason neji begins to care for her. it's so frustrating to me because both hinata and neji's arcs are *right there,* they could've broken that cycle, but that potential is never delved into.

I almost wished that Neji was the one who collaborated with skilled ninja to find a way to remove the curse mark and then he died. At least, he would have some reprieve and relief from being a trapped being for once in his life. Banning the curse mark didnt do much. The branch households are still required to serve to the main branch, the curse mark was just a physical punishment as back up just in case one of them betrayed the main branch. It was deep-rooted corruption that ruined the Hyuga and made the branch families miserable and not the curse mark itself that caused it. If anything, making the main branch realize the other branch members values and having protection through loyalty and love rather than hate and pain is a much better way of solving the underlying issues but as far as we’ve seen, only one branch family gets the focus and that Neji died in their representation ‘for the sake of the main branch still’ so ultimately it still reinforced the fate of the branch families living to die for the main family
@opaluni

People keep saying the clan banded the bird cage seal, but I see utterly no proof of it. It's literally rooted in classism and supremacy. A clan like the Hyuga's realistically wouldn't get rid of that Cruse mark; since they want to preserve the Byakugan at all cost. The lives of the lower branch are considered lesser then the main and they use them as fodder. This is sovereign great noble clan that cannot be told how to operate by anyone. Not even the Hokage. Naruto has no sway or power in changing ages old law and rhetoric and Hinata has shown not a single instance of care or interest in the bird cage seal. She's been about getting in Naruto's pants since the beginning. Politics and etc... Hinata literally disengaged from all hardship and work since she was demoted in status. She couldn't beat her sister inorder to preserve her title, or to carry the load of being heiress in order to save her younger system. Nor did she ever speak up for Neji's sake. I don't believe any of those non canon as novels written as fanfiction to give characters credit they didn't work or show consideration for in canon. Hinata got into a fight with her sister regarding Naruto in one of the novels, because her sister thought she should have decency and actual confidence to confront Naruto about his absentee father schtick. And Hinata almost had a heart attack. This chick left her clan high and dry for her man candy. Lol Naruto, imo, doesn't mesh with the Hyuga clan. It just feels manufactured and fake. Lol The ending was a shit show and stepford, as hell. It's easy for Hiashi to ve a doting grandfather when Neji, the only real representative of the lower branch is dead and the rest of them are never seen or mentioned. Out of sight and out of mind. 💀 Hinata marrying Naruto was a Boone for the Hyuga. A political power play. Allowing them to get closer to the Hokage seat since nepotism runs rampant.

how I look at it, it was destiny for Neji to die for Hinata, however its different because at first it was like he didn't have a choice and he hated that, But after meeting Naruto and knows what he means to everyone and Hinata, he made the choice to save hinata and naruto. If he didn't try to save hinata the curse mark would never force him to save her, it was his own choice. but then again, it would be better if the curse mark thing would be removed especially after Tsunade took over. Neji should have felt real freedom, not just in death. I blame the writers.
