@@celsobarros2229 you think his policies were effective? Well he kicked every asians out of the country, that is something we for sure can know. He started a war with tanzania and fled, that we can for sure know. Idi amin did have torture chambers where he killed thousands of ugandans, that we can know for sure. There are even images of the torture chambers. So we know he did kill and torture people. And they did have to dispose of the bodies? So they fed them to the crocodiles. And sometimes they were eaten alive

Idi Amin was a Second world war veteran of the earth Kings African Rifles. Because of their experience in jungle warfare many African soldiers at the time were sent to Burma to fight the Japanese. As a result of his courage and bravery during the war idi Amin was awarded the Victoria cross as well as a military cross which he proudly wore remember many African soldiers died in the second World War and never returned home

I am humbled that, my late biological father, the late Flight Captain Omony Ngomoloyo Remijo Geoffrey was President Idi Amin’s helicopter pilot, from 1971 - 1976(13 January 1976 to be specific) when he died in a helicopter crash in Parobeto, Mbale. He had flown Amin and Mobutu to a presidential rally in Mbale town. I was only 5 years old when he died. Although only 5 years old, I still remember Amin visiting us at our home in Entebbe frequently. I had some of the photos we took with Amin, but many got lost during the war(1978-1979).

I feel historically, Idi Amin is significant for many reasons, and should have a statue or other remembrance in Uganda. Whether good or bad, he is a part of history, the culture’s presidency, former boxing champion for over 9 years etc, and he is what the world will forever know about Uganda. He made Uganda famous, was a Nationalist, had foresight and was physically powerful at a young age, strong and courageous, was proud of his country and ethnicity and caused Europeans to symbolically kneel before him and carry him on a shoulder contraption like they used to enjoy during colonial times. He also emphasized economic freedom for native Ugandans, although going about it the wrong way by expelling all the Asians. There is a lot of bad in Idi Amin, but also a lot to learn historically and to remember in Uganda. I hope Ugandans come to understand Idi Amin's symbolism beyond the death toll he caused, since this happens with all warrior like African leaders like (Shaka Zulu directly), and modern leaders, indirectly and at different magnitudes. He is one of the few historical African leaders captured on International film so many times, and directly in international film documentary. General Amin certainly had crude ways based on his background, poverty, lack of education, forced entry into the British military African recruits, fighting in Burma, etc. He was ruthless and eliminated all perceived and real enemies due to being a General and also 9 year boxing Champion, besides other sportsmanship. He was also a good musician, and played the accordion well. He had many wives and children, and seemed to exude the rawness of African life in all aspects.

Despite the economic sanctions Amin maintained a strong Uganda Shilling and manufacturing in Jinja lndustrial area. Many items used in daily life were being manufactured locally. Electricity was very cheap and there was no need of using charcoal. Under the current dictatorship everything has been destroyed all forests have been cut down for charcoal. Wetlands gone.
