I played my fair share of movie tie in games as a kid. Whether it be Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Ghost-rider, Hulk, Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith, King Kong, Aladdin, Madagascar, Shrek 2 I mean the list seriously goes on and on. None of these games quite had a grip on my childhood though like The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. It was a game that had no right being that good... or at least that's what I think. Nostalgia will get you from time to time so, let's just double check and see if Return of the King really is as good as I remember!

yep the mid 2000's were so sick. Spiderman, star wars, the lord of the rings etc etc. I'm trying to put nostalgia aside but really I think it was a great time for these kinds of massive franchises back then.

I wish we had more games like this in the modern day. Being able to sit down with friends and play through a campaign together side by side was something I experienced back in the day with this game and Halo 1 & 2, and wish remained popular. It was especially fun in this game because you got to choose between all these great characters. Gimli and his axe parry are insanely good in this game btw.

I remember playing this game before the extended edition of the movie came out. And I was so confused because some parts of the game weren't from the theatrical movie... Like parts during the Army of the Dead section and fighting the Mouth of Sauron. I figured they were made up just for the game. Had no clue they were from the movie but were just cut out for the theatrical release.

Fun facts. The developers were making this game at the same time that the crew in New Zealand were wrapping up The Return of the King film. Electronic Arts received all of the creature designs and set photographs from Weta Workshop on printed paper instead of digitally and simply had to extrapolate from them. Also, there was a plan to make an EA tie-in video game of the Fellowship of the Ring film but, due to time constraints, Stormfront Studios had to abandon that plan and lump the Fellowship levels in with The Two Towers game. Gollum was also modelled and animated as a playable character for The Two Towers game - this was scrapped because the design for Gollum (as he appears in the film) hadn't been decided upon at Weta Digital yet. These games are amazing.

It’s still as good as you remember it’s just different now. You’ve grown, modern games have raised your expectations, controls have been optimized, but when you were young putting this game in your ps2 for the first time it was epic we will never recreate that feeling no matter how hard we try

Thank you mate, glad you enjoyed the video! I was planning on covering all the LOTR games, even finished playing The Third Age and started Battle for Middle Earth but that hard drive corrupted and I lost everything. Bit demoralising but, I will get back to the games sooner rather than later because I am a massive fan

@@MayorHairBear Oh no, that sounds really frustrating. I‘m sorry to hear that. Anyway, I do also enjoy your other content, particularly the GoW videos, which is a series I was always quite aware of but only played bits and pieces of. You have a very calm and critical eye on these games (in the classic sense of „criticism“) yet also your Love really shines through. And you’re honest about your tastes. All that gives your videos a really great energy to just be at home for a while and listen to your „stories“. I‘ve seen few channels where I enjoy listening the content creator talk about games/ films that I‘m not necessarily interested in, but you’re one of the people who pull it of. I‘m sorry for the admittedly long winded compliment, but I believe in giving credit where it is due and positive feedback. :-) anyway, keep it up and no pressure about LOTR, there are lots of other great games out there. Have a nice day.
