We have talked about a lot of air accidents on this channel. Occasionally there comes across an incident in aviation which has less to so with the airplane and more to do with the airport where the accident occurred. In 1990 a small Norwegian plane crashed less than two minutes after take-off from a small regional airport killing all on board. The incident was not isolated as the airport had seen another incident which nearly resulted in a crash the previous year. The airport in question was considered to be an extremely challenging airport to pilots and thus was closed in 1990 following this accident. Since the crash of Wideroe flight 839 commercial flights have ceased from this airport. So what happened? Why was this airport so dangerous? (For lack of a better term) And how did it affect the plane?
