Quest was great overall especially in regard to how the twins interactions were written. Seeing their dynamic made the goal of reuniting with our sibling much more interesting to me due to finally being given a solid emotional connection through the interaction which I feel we haven't gotten (atleast not as impactfully) in other quests. A disappointing aspect of the quest was the fact that dainsleif and lumine were completely off screened, not just because we didn't see them fight but because we didn't get any interactions between them. Considering they were travelling companions for who knows long I feel like it was a missed opportunity.

I assume that Caribert deliberately flubbed his first memory change so that Dainsleif would think that he would be able to detect the memory change, then did it correctly the second time around so that Dain didn't realize he got caught and then think to double check on whether or not he still had the orb.

Yeah, like, we know Caribert *usually* used sunset to avoid inconsistencies, but for that one specifically, he could've emulated the current time since he knew exactly what Dain was doing and made the memory more seamless/believable.

5:20 one way to do this would have been to make a separate cutscene introducing the five sinners with what were their deeds in Khaenria'h. I still don't get why hoyo doesn't do more cutscenes, both Genshin and HSR suffer greatly from the lack of more visual storytelling, but otherwise the main thing I liked about this quest was how short and to the point it was. No random B plots, no overindulgent exposition. Some may see it as an issue that the quest wasn't longer, but to be frank I much prefer it this way than whatever the frick was the 2.2 story in HSR, those 9 hours I shall never get back.

I think the differences in the memories are that one happened, then he woke up. The second happend but why would he question it, he was literally about to do the thing. Its kind of like pulling out a bowl to make food, then imagining you made food, then going back to your room, you only realize you didnt do it if you get hungry, or see the empty bowl later

I really liked the quest. It really humanised the abyss sibling for me and also answered a lot of questions regarding the lore while creating a lot more 😂. The new details really made everything click in after the whole Sumeru tinfoil hat theories and started a new type of theories.

I really like the quest but I will say the twins forgetting their memories while it makes sense narratively, it also shouldn’t happen at the same time. Very conflicted on that. One thing I like to mention though is that we’ve seen Aether act a bit more cold as the story kept going and here before the realm disappears, he gets mad at Lumine and says something shocking/hurtful to her that made her widen her eyes. I have a feeling that even if he doesn’t remember, he’s probably gonna get more cold in Natlan and beyond. He better get some love and comfort cause damn does he need it.

I get what you mean about Dain, people had the same problem about Skirk talking about the third descender but overall I'm more happy learning the informations so I don't linger with how it's presented. I'd say we learn more about Dain from the collected miscellany and world quest than those quests, they want save things for the Khaenri'ha chaper which lead to those awkward slow reveals . Earlier I saw someone say that Albedo should be a four star because he's unimportant and realizes how badly Genshin screwed him over , they better cook something amazing for him .

How is Traveler more tragic than the little kid who was sacrificed by his family? Or the people experimented on by Dottore? Or any number of other people we've learned about? Nahida locked up for 500 years? Anyway, since we are fast coming to the final 2-4 chapters, Genshin should: * tie up loose ends of plots that contribute to the main story, but aren't part of it * begin to trickle intel rather than drip it -- definitely avoid Traveler "forgetting" or "dreaming" intel they need * not introduce so many plots unrelated to the main story. They need to tie in somehow * establish any foreshadowing for things yet to come (e.g., disasters) if that foreshadowing doesn't already exist That's my take on things. We got some info in this Dain quest (though it felt too short) only to have it whipped away from us again. It's possible Traveler does remember (descender) and just isn't sharing with Paimon, but we as players don't know that. I was unhappy with the little bit of lore we got, and maddened when they ripped it away from Traveler at the end. Might as well have Bobby Ewing step out of the shower. (Sorry. Old reference. Just remember my folks were pretty pissed off by that one!) ETA: Foreshadowing is a great example. Dain drops the 5 sinners bomb. We've only heard of 2 of them. That means 3 more people we need info on (or probably can expect to make appearances). Right now I have that bad feeling you get when you realize a series you're reading--that should be approaching the end--just opened up 10 more plotlines, introduced 2 new countries, and 100 new characters, all with intricate plotlines. GRRM, I might be looking at you.

I guess the Dain revealing it may feel a bit off if you look at it as an individual quest but that's not what it is. It's a continuation of the previous quest in which Dain finding out that the Sinner is involved shocks him just as much as it confuses us and he says that he himself needs to confirm it before he can say anything else . The Vedrfolnir being his brother wasn't foreshadowed but how can tou even foreshadow that. Dain shows up once a year and keeps out of sight no natter where he is. There's no way to foreshadow something like that unless you meet one of them before the other has the chance to say anything Well how would you react to knowing/having memories of someone you know you have never met?. The time plays a part in identifying the false memory yes, but that's not the fpcus of how to do it it's more like a piece of information then the actual answer. Dain's cracking of the fake memories case suggests fhat fake memory can be identified if you already have a contradictory memory in place. Like he recognised instantly that these were fake memories because he knew that he only found out about this person's existence a day ago and the circumstances surrounding him. And we see this work in fhe opposite direction as well, that is when there isn't a contradiction rhen there's also no reason to doubt the memory. Dain cannot have a memory of not doing something Oh sorry the Descender logic is missing a few new pieces that Fontaine added (not in the main quest) Now the definition of a Descender reads as "an outlander who's Will Rivals that of an Entire World" Once completed the Lome cannot implant memories anymore because it doesn't need to when it can shape a new reality "Super Melancholy" and not sad Meanwhile Enkanimiya exists*

I think it is pretty interesting that Clothar's sole purpose in life was to save his son, but the Visionary/Abyss corrupted his intentions to the point where he sacrificed his son for the Loom of Fate. I think this might parallel a manipulation of the Abyss Sibling, who is trying to save Khaenriah/Teyvat, but may be working against their very interests due to the Abyss's corruption. There are hints of this in the Chasm quest, when they say they're willing to take a 1% chance on the plan working even if the effects could have been disastrous.

Someone pointed out that the first memories may have deliberately been planted in such a way that was to be detectable, so Dain would *think* he was more perceptive to the falseness of implanted memories - and that would bring his guard down for when the important memory was implanted. In which case, bravo Caribert.

Then the travelers come to teyvat and think its new but its not the just dont recongize it

What I find curious is that, the abyss sibling didn't had to say all the things about the potential end game, but they did. It makes me feel as if tho the AS really want's to tell the traveler about everything, but also knows that they cannot, due to it possibly screwing up everything that the abyss order has been doing. They might have realized that since the memories of the traveler will be erased, this might be the only time when they get to have an honest conversation with the traveler, and they took it.

6:57 Not really an inconsistency when you think about the glasses incidents people have. Looking around the entire house just for them to be on your shirt, face, or in your hair. Or your phone/keys just for them to be in your hands. Dain knew the first set of false memories were fake because it went against everything he stands for. "Did I willingly expose where I had the Eye to the Abyss? No. Impossible...." BUT!! Dain DOES trust the Traveler and so believing that he handed the Eye over to us is more of a "Wtf? oh yeah, my contingency. Did I do it? * checks memory* Yeah. I did" This is not to say that he should have checked his pockets just to be safe. But now we know Dain isn't one to check his plans twice.

I really like this quest it felt it was the exact midpoint of the story, from how it feels like you're looking back to a lot of pieces from the story (it felt like they really tied together everything from the Dain stories cohesively here) to the themes it's trying to present. I just felt like it they were able to properly present all the pieces for the second half of the story. I also felt like your comment about the traveler not being real or as if they're in a memory is interesting because I always felt as if every World Quest and a lot of Stories in Genshin centered around the NPCs or other Characters and the traveler being a Witness, even Zhongli states as such in his Quest. I also like the implications of this being sort of in a loop, you have all these comments of things that have to happen and will continue to happen as if history HAS to repeat itself, Nahida even mentions in the anime trailer for Sumeru that "Everything in this world runs in a loop." Plus if you think about it, if they keep this trajectory and this IS the midpoint of the story, the Teyvat arc might actually end at Ver 8.8 which would be pretty symbolic for a multitude of reasons not just the loop. Anyway thank you for this video! There's been so much Genshin negativity so it's nice to just have something positive to hear.

I start to think that the mysteries of Genshin's Teyvat will have a lot of situated through Sumeru, it's as if the whole metaphysical and Cosmology of Genshin Impact are interlinked with Honkaiverse as a whole (yes, it's already tied to Honkai games' multiverse as a whole, there's even alternate bubble universes where Genshin were collabed with Honkai as a variant of bubble universes, mainly as both Leaf and Bubble Universes in the greater Honkaiverse represented as Solar Systems to a crumbling planet respectively instead of actual IRL universe-scale realm), and back to Genshin's lore, Sumeru is heavily emphasized with concept of Buddhist Samsara and it's loop cycles akin to how Honkai Impact interplayed the cycles of universe/world system's rise and collapse (it's also already confirmed further with Honkai Star Rail lore of Izumo being Planetary systems being heavily tied to Ether Anchors of each systems, with Genshin (as a Continent) being sustained by both Tree of Irminsul and Ley Lines of Genshin's Samsara (both of which being mastered by Dendro Archon of Sumeru) Sorry for a lot of conjecture, considering that I play Honkai Impact since early 2018 and witness how Mihoyo develops these Cosmological concepts as times goes on, though Honkai Star Rail kinda dropped the concepts of bubble universes and leaf universes and replaced it with actual Star Systems, Sectors/Segmentum ala more conventional Sci Fi systems to make the whole lore more coherent (at least to what have been seen so far), not to mention that Skirk's confirming the scale of Genshin Impact are just placed on a whole planet with its own self-contained system, as the Twins travelled through many worlds, though it seems they're travelling in manner of less powered as Astral Express (especially how they're both easily halted by Sustainer of Heavenly Principles (possibly Asmoday according to many players) so easily) Though Honkai Impact part 2 main story adds Chronological origin back to Billions of years old which kinda breaks the Amber Era scaling of years of Honkai Star Rail calendar by millions of years of Amber Era (as 1 Amber Era ranged between 76 to 240 years of standard yearly Earth calendar) too, so it's ridiculous on the whacked sense of Chronology on top of Honkai Star Rail have quite amount of conflicts with the concept of overlapping Leaf & Bubble Universes, hence why Honkai Impact's Captain's Bizarre Adventures need to be continued to connect these games' sense of time & space scaling tbh

I think Lumine isn't realm not Aether. Aether is 1000% a real person, but Lumine... I think she is dead already and what we see is her "ghost" or consciousness. That's why she is so "unreachable" for Traveler and can't reunite with her brother here and now. Because let's be real, she could've said "Hey, I want to save Khaenriah, let's go and do it together?", but she is like "you see... blah-blah-blah, nothing special, blah-blah-blah, take it or leave it, I'm alone and you're alone". I think that Lumine that we have now, maybe was made by Khaenriah or they've made something to her that she is like this now. Aether - NO. Just NO. If they made Aether, they wouldn't leave their creation somewhere to chill and more than that - kill their brothers and sisters Abyss creatures. Come on. That doesn't make any sense. While Lumine is basically "serving" to Abyss Order. She is their "princess" but she is also the one who makes their wishes come true.

Honestly, a lot of the reveals made me frustrated because they drag out the story so much and constantly hint at things but they leave out big things that just pop up out of nowhere so it's like you can't actually theorize or dive into anything. We just have to wait for years for them to tell us everything because it will probably hinge on things and characters we haven't ever seen or heard anything even hinted about. It's been years, can we start getting where we're going?

I think this is one of my biggest gripes with Genshin's method of storytelling. I think the pieces are all there, and individually they're all potentially great. Hell, the things that were influenced by real lore and mythology make the game very interesting. But Genshin REALLY sucks at pacing and managing its characters' screen time. It's been 4 years but it still feels like we don't know too much. We're always given puzzles pieces, and not at a pace that makes them feel exciting. The last 5-6 months, for example, have been barren of any interesting events. Everything that feels relevant to the big story and lore has been given in crumbs or character story quests. And then the big lore stuff that actually contributes to world building (like Remuria) is often delivered in the most dry way possible. Quests filled with Same-Face NPCs and no voice-acting. Many of the playable characters, especially the ones from Mondstadt, have strong backgrounds (some heavy on the lore). BUT in my opinion, a majority of them are not used to their full potential. Almost every playable is only relevant during the Archon Quest, their Story Quest, or an Interlude. There are events, but unless the event provides a lore drop, a playable character showing up feels like fanservice. Less "story relevant" and more like "cameo". So what happens is that after Archon Quests, Genshin just drags for so long. Lore is spread out too much between NPCs, playable characters are regulated to small events and cameos, and actually stories are not explored. Albedo is one of the big examples of Genshin's mishandling of the story. Everything about him is fascinating and he had some of the best events in the game. He is directly connected to one of the most powerful characters in the lore and should know more about her than anyone. But at some point, it feels like the Genshin team forgot about him. His last major appearance was in a *cat event.* Any potential for Albedo's story or using his connection to Rhinedotter for lore-building has been wasted. We're only left with the puzzle pieces that make up Albedo's potential, not the full picture and story. Not to mention how I think Hoyoverse put themselves in a weird corner following a predictable yearly schedule. But this has already become an essay so I'll stop there. TL;DR- I agree. It feels like Genshin provides so much and yet so little at the same time. It's incredibly frustrating.
@mismismism

@@pinkraven7043 I agree, it's been years and it feels like the plot has barely made any progress. And every Dain quest they just drop in some new character or concept that comes out of nowhere and totally changes what was teased before. Like they don't understand how to do the breadcrumbs storytelling. The sinner alone, the insane amount of theories people came up with based on the thought of there being 1. It happens with so many things they tease. They waste like 90% of each year of content on events and storylines that have nothing to do with the main plot too. At some point people start to lose interest or just forget what was even teased over all this time. They really seem to think they can stretch this main story out for 10+ years before it actually gets somewhere.

@@mismismism What makes it even worse is that Genshin has shown they CAN make events that feel story/lore relevant or at least events that can focus on the playable characters and not NPCs. Unreconciled Stars, events in the Golden Archipelago, Windblume events, Dragonspine events, etc. But these events don't happen as often as they feel like they should. Like you said, every year it feels like most of the game's story is wasted. And a majority of patches are wasted on meaningless events and an abundance of minigames. This goes back to my grievance with Hoyoverse choosing to follow a yearly tradition with Genshin. I think the pacing is the fault of trying to adhere to this schedule. Archon Quests and new regions ALWAYS need to come out near the end of summer, Lantern Rite is always guaranteed, we always have a Dain quest near the end of a region's cycle, each region is given only a year of focus before they move on, etc. Since they put themselves on this schedule, it means they have to focus on the guaranteed events more than anything else. I wouldn't be shocked if the reason the last 5-6 months of patches have been dry is because they've been putting more effort into Natlan. And while that's nice to hear, I think Hoyoverse should've paced themselves better. I'd rather wait for Natlan if it meant they put more effort and time in the in-between stuff. I'd rather they have more events that mattered to the bigger story and featured more playables. I'd rather not have patches that only provide 2-3 hours of relevant content and the rest of the mongh is just dozens of mini-events (that give meh rewards.) I'd rather have a Dain event that feels longer and flipped the story on its head. Not another Dain event where he drops in, says some lore, does something mildly relevant, and then he leaves. I could rant about this for a long time, but I think you get the point.

@@jeffali5157 Agreed, for the main plot to last this long they cannot be so cryptic, they've been teasing the same things since Mondatadt every Dain quest but they just throw in another concept we've never heard of every time, now he has a twin, now there's a whole bunch of sinners, they've been talking about this loom I think from the start but it's still unclear what it actually does or even is, like this Leyline stuff could mean almost anything for the story. There need to be arcs in a story that lasts this long but they've been milking the same "What is the Abyss doing? What are the Fatui doing? What's Celestia doing? From the start, we've basically made no meaningful story progress.

Personally, I didn't really like this interlude. I have to wonder why they chose to split this from the original Caribert quest, because aside from the Abyss sibling's one line about the throne of Hydro being destroyed, there's really no reason why this had to take place after Fontaine instead of still being after Sumeru. I also think hearing Surtalogi's name from Dain first and then from Skirk could have also been interesting. As in, getting his name first and then seeing how strong his disciple and pet are right in the next arc would've been a better setup imo. Also, the Traveler looking at the screen and basically saying "I have questions I want to ask, but I don't feel like asking them right now", as well as the dream not being remembered at all really feels like the writers wanted a laugh at our expense lol. Overall there's some very interesting information in the quest, but personally I kinda hate how overall it's mostly infodumping and setup with little to no payoffs, at least compared to previous Dain quests. Guess we gotta wait one more year for these...

I was seriously dissapointed in this archon quest. I'm surprised I haven't heard more negatives about it. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. the big one for me was the "forget everything said in cariberts memory domain." he literally tells paimon "the loom is finished and cariberts is gone...." hmmm kinda funny he remembers something that he only heard about in cariberts domain..... WTF? I thought the reason we forget the sibling chat ENTIRELY, was because "everything done/said in cariberts domain will be forgotten with caribert gone" Wait, wait , wait.... so he can remember shit from cariberts domain? Just not his sister or anything that would lead to any progress on that end? Weird. It definitely wasn't just that though. If we're supposed to believe that Dainsleif thought he gave us the eye. Then we're also supposed to believe HE'S STUPID ENOUGH to tell us to go look for the missing person when they're in the middle of a crisis? The missing person isn't even what dainsleif was there for ,nor did he particularly care, that's not a world threatening issue at the moment we should protect the eye at all costs. Eh fuck it." Traveler I sense a strong presence" Better go look for that missing person in the towns memories" which sounds sooooo stupid when you find out he supposedly thinks he gave the eye to traveler. That is some of the dumbest shit shit I've seen. Also, apparently rhinedottir and surtalogi are connected to dainsleif along with his other brother or sisters or whatever. Is the whole Hexzenzirkal evil? Does that mean Alice is evil?(would be kinda weird for super good people to have regular tea parties with entities dainsleif paints as almost wholly evil traitors.) I'm a pretty big fan of the story in all honesty, but with the arlecchino story making traveler seem to take a giant L. Then all this......

I'm sorry, but your comment is so stupid and shows how much you are not an attentive person and how much you have problems understanding banal logic, or how much you don't care about story and don't even try to delve into, listen to or read. Firstly, the Traveler forgot what was happening in the Caribert dimension, which was Caribert's subconscious, he still remembers the conversation with Caribert that took place in the subconscious of that girl, he does not remember only the moment that happened after Caribert moved the Traveler into the his subconscious. This was said in the story, the place where we first met with Caribert for the first time and where he talked to the girl is her subconscious, the place where Caribert moved the Traveler in which there was a giant tree is Caribert's subconscious. Secondly, Daisleif thought that he had given the Eye to the Traveler, so he voluntarily went into an obvious trap to meet the Twin for some reason, since he thought that the Traveler had the Eye, he sent him away from Abyss Order while dealing "empty-handed" with the Abyss Order. This is banal logic: I gave you an important thing, now go as far away as possible while I deal with those who want this thing. What's so stupid about that? Thirdly, no one said that there are kinship ties between Sinners, it's only Dain and his brother, Sinners are just the most important people of Khaenri'ah. Fourthly, what makes you think that Sinners are evil? Sinners are Sinners because they did not help their people in calamity, Dainsleif is also a Sinner because he didn't help either, judging by the words of the Twin. If one of the Hexen members for some unknown reason did not help their people, it does not mean that all other Hexen members are evil, it is like saying that all Harbingers are evil because of Dottore.

???? Abyss Sibling explicitly says you and they will forget everything in the domain only after Caribert disappeared. Everything learned before then, like the Loom of Fate, would be remembered. And what do you mean, dumb? Dainsleif explicitly didn’t want the Traveler there. Yeah, he didn’t care about the missing person, but he DID NOT WANT Traveler to meet the Sibling or Sibling to get the eye, so he made up an excuse to send Traveler away.

This was said in the story, the place where we first met with Caribert for the first time and where he talked to the girl is her subconscious, the place where Caribert moved the Traveler in which there was a giant tree is Caribert's subconscious that was erased. Daisleif thought that he had given the Eye to the Traveler, so he voluntarily went into an obvious trap to meet the Twin, since he thought that the Traveler had the Eye, he sent him away from Abyss Order while dealing "empty-handed" with the Abyss Order. This is banal logic: I gave you an important thing, now go as far away as possible while I deal with those who want to take this thing. What's so stupid about that? No one said that there are family ties between Sinners, it's only Dain and his brother, the only connection between other Sinners is that they were all the most influential people in Khaenri'ah who did not help their people during calamity. Just because one of the Hexen members is questionable person does not make all members of the organization evil, it's like considering all Harbingers evil because of Dottore. And nowhere was it said that Hexen are good, they literally tried to fight God with his nation just to test their strength, and you should read in the Teyvat Travel Guide how Alice treat and do to Hilichurls (And Alice, as the oldest member of this organization and a friend of Rentodotir, should know that the Hilichurls were people). Hexen is not a kind, but also not an evil organization, they're just a bunch of super strong personalities who are engaged in all sorts of nonsense.

@@kylegreen6711 so you're telling me that In his haste to protect the , eye, he told traveler to go directly to the place effected by the enemy looking for the eye? Strategic mastermind indeed. "traveler you must leave I sense someone powerful coming, please go look for the missing person in control of every one's memories and set up this trap. it's the only way we can protect the eye. think about it if we just hand them eye they'll think we're tricking them and keep looking" I mean ,I imagine that's about how it went down.... Also She says everything that happened in his subconscious, the tree place , that's the only time finished loom and cariberts death is mentioned. So how does the being in other people's memories before that happened have to do with his personal memory domain vanishing (not like an Implanted memory, this happened only in his realm which is no more. Thats what I took it to mean. but hey fuck it somehow he left a photo behind so what the fuck do I know . I just don't see how everyone rationalized these issues away. it's seems very black/white to me ,domain gone ,everything associated within the domain vanishes too. In regards to the hexclad pan wizards. I thought when dains said my younger brother , then later said there were more of them. I had just assumed sibling cuz of the conversation but more time had probobly passed then I realized and it was a new sentence entirely. probobly my bad on that one. The rest of the shit though I don't see any other way to interpret it when you look over the story as a whole. I imagine it's rather likely that dain isn't necessarily a reliable narrator ,as he painted them evil as hell and consumed with power. If they were like that ,I couldn't imagine Alice or anyone who associated with her and Klee including creator of the mirage ppls would chill with ridiculously evil people ,but as mentioned, with dainsleif it would be a whole hell of a lot more personal.

I really disliked this quest. It was too short, Caribert just infodumped what happened with no tension buildup - it jumped from introducing the characters to the climax. And did I mention it was too short? Dainsleif's lines read like they were making fun of us. The conversation between the siblings was good, except the game erased it from canon. This is the first main story update since 4.2. Remuria was tiny with almost no quests. Northern Sumeru and the Temple of Silence were empty. Even Chlorinde's filler quest was longer than this story update, but ig that makes sense since they're selling characters not a story. I've been a daily player since 1.1 with no missed days. This quest was the final straw for me, since playing this quest I stopped logging in. I don't even care that I still have welkin. If the game can't spend time to give me what I like (story and lore) then I won't give it my time. I give up.
