It's incredible how many of these old systems are played by more people today - in various ways - than they were during their prime.

The analog duo is pretty cool. However... They could of made it by including a top loader and controller ports in the front.

My main motivation for purchasing this system was having an affordable option to play physical CD and SCD rom games. A proper TGCD or Duo system will set you back about 600-$1000, and it's prone to failure, so this was a perfect move for that reason alone.

This would have been cooler, for me at least, if it had came out sooner than it did. I bought a recapped & RGB modded PC Engine DUO back in 2020 for $370 shipped; this could have been a nice alternative to that

Personally I’ve been loving the Duo. Really easy to justify given that I’ve sold off my original hardware. Awesome HDMI video output, convenience of a dedicated wireless controller. We’re spoiled today.

I like the idea and I love the system. Some of the most awesome arcade ports of all time. One of the most ahead of it's time consoles ever. Unfortunately HuCards are expensive. Of course they are expensive considering they are something different than other consoles had. And they were extremely cool back in the day. CD-ROMs I would absolutely want to collect such as Double Dragon II but at a crazy price I just cannot pay. I have been thrilled with the PC-ENGINE mini. Yes it's missing a few titles but it also has more titles than most minis. A dozen CD-ROM titles even. I believe Sega learned from their old competitor to release Segs CD titles with their second console.

Have my TG16 & Duo consoles/games since released in the early 90’s. Had the capacitors replaced on them & work great but Analogue’s Duo is a great as I can now reduce additional wear on my OG hardware. The Polymega CD drive acts much like Analogue’s Duo having to push the CD quite far into the unit before it pulls it in and basically the same eject too. In Pac Land you can change to D pad in the games options

@Madlittlepixel, you're not alone brother lol. I have my "one friends" original TurboGrafx that he received for his birthday if I remember correctly in 1991, his original TurboDuo that he got about three years later, a PC Engine Mini, and now an Analogue Duo along with a decent sized library of US and Japanese games. This system is special man. I hope more people get to experience it that have not yet done so. By the way, he is still one of my oldest and best friends to this day.

We were lucky to get this, so I won't complain if it's not 100 percent out of the gate.

I found a trick for operate the everdrive (not pro version) on the analog duo. You must first start on a real hucard game, exit the game, insert the everdrive, go to library, select the previous game and launch it, this manipulation allows you to launch the everdrive ✌️✌️✌️

As for the Everdrive debate, the Turbo Everdrive v2.5, which is the current non-Pro Everdrive does not work in the Analogue Duo, at this time. Those users will have to wait for the right update to work.

I was that one kid in grade school that had a TG16. I kept all of my games, and absolutely love the analogue system. But if you’re going to just be using a Everdrive, much cheaper ways to play.

MLP at 12:49 I think you can change the menu there and go down where says Button Controls and change it. Pac Land arcade only had buttons eh, but on the PCE rom you can change in menus so dont have those backwards style controls. I love Pac Land, used to play the arcade of it loads up local swimming pool and always one lf the first roms i load up on any systems now. There's alsp a rom hack for the NES version to allow a more normal control. But on PCE should be simple in the menu

I bought Genesis instead because Altered Beast. Also with Golden Axe & Ghouls 'n Ghosts. All about the arcade games. ❤ the Turbo Grafx, could only afford to buy 1. Was in college in late'89...ate enough ramen noodles as it was...nough said.

The only way I'd get an Analogue DUo is if they put OpenFPGA on it, and you can play PS1/Saturn/SegaCD and stuff like that through it.

Pac Land PCE controls are indeed changeable to use the D-pad properly. It's either in the menu or via cheat code iirc.

Ive been hunting for something like this. Subscribed. I bought a turbo grafx 16 new in 94 than a turbo duo. I kept Splatterhouse, Devils Crush, and Galaga 90 incase i ever bought a TG 16 again. This is exciting! The shooter i miss on duo was Gate of Thunder awesome metal soundtrack.

You can change the controls for Pac Land in the options menu. The way it’s set up drove me nuts too 😂

Same here man, same here. I have more hardware then games on them, minus the newer gen stuff with the little one. Everdrives help consolidating with space and current pricing on older games. I'm amazed with hardware on how it processes the information with such little compute power compared to current stuff. Oh, the Turbo EverDrive PRO would not fit for my Analogue Duo without the front screws and the spacer removed. Must be different tolerances between units.

I really hate Analogue's design for this system. It should have kept the top loading cd player. It should have used a standard HuCard slot. That has the potential to make some games not work in the future if they're too big.

I'm can't say that I would buy one for this reason, but it would be more appealing to me if there were more homebrew games for the system. That is my hope for these FPGA consoles. So hopefully it encourages indie homebrewers to make more

I'd mainly end up playing romhacks and fan translations, so having potentially flaky everdrive support and potentially no openfpga concerns me. Guess I'll have to wait till it comes out to see what the final product is and hope I can still grab one at retail price.

There's something about playing the original or near original hardware. Analog duo costs just as much as the TurboDuo when it came out.

I love how many variations there were of the TG16/PCE. Only Sega could match that many variations of console of the era. Let's see there were the PC Engine, TurboGrafx, the OG Duo, and the Portable. While the Genny had Models 1, 2, and 3, the attachment for the LaserActive, the WonderMega (x-Eye), the Nomad, That one you could only use on Airplanes, the CDX, and I'm probably missing one.

Is the CD core on this device better than the PCE CD core on the Pocket? That one was a little rough in my experience on the Pocket.

I'm not sure why none mention this in their videos. But the save states are not working with Hucard roms on the Turbo Everdrive Pro with the Analogue Duo...

Sooo Bad the DUO is not openFPGA, i was dreaming of NEOGEO CD / SATURN ... on that machine !! But nope ... Only PC ENGINE and not anything else so it is a little to expensive. Analog Pocket is a 100% better choice for sure PC Engine games are still awesome nowadays , my favorite one is BomberMan 94 !!

To be honest I felt the Analogue Duo was a more premium product with a better cost benefit ratio than the Super NT which leaved me a little dissapointed after paying scalper price. Analogue does not ship to Mexico so that increases the price even more however what I paid for the Duo leaved me satisfied once I tried it.

With all of your options do you have a Turbo Duo? I am trying to figure out if that is the way to go over getting an OG TurboGrafx 16.

cool fact NEC released a white version of the 16 disc drive but it didn't work with the system I think it was for a computer but my dad gave me one

I am confused On this video, the everdrive fits right in with the top plate still on it. On other vids, the same everdrive pro does not fit, and I mean the pro, not the non pro like 2.5 or wtv.

It’s super cool and I love the aesthetic that Analog has put into the console, but for my money TerraOnion has the better product for me. I love my SuperSD System 3 over RGB SCART. It’s the perfect blend of vintage and new. Expensive sure, but like you I missed out on the TG16 and CGFX when I was a kid so naturally now it’s my favourite system. It was always that Japanese console that everyone talked about and claimed they played at a friend’s house who didn’t go to our school 😂

I just bought the Turbo Everdrive v2.5 because I didn't have 220USD to put on the Pro version and now it's effing worthless because it won't work with my Analogue Duo... The console has been out for over a month now and they still haven't fixed that. I'm losing hope they will. Their FAQ is still stating it works with the Everdrive... BS... I'm getting fed up with Analogue.

The turbo switches do not work when the recommended 8bitdo controller is connected directly to the Duo console. This is a terrible oversight in my opinion and nobody else seems to notice it.. And when the controller is paired using the dongle you can't adjust the switches individually. The procedure to adjust the turbo switches is also very tedious and the documentation from both 8bitdo and Analogue on this topic is pretty much worthless.

The pc engine was mostly meh

It's a really disappointing product in its present, buggy state! So my answer is no, especially considering the total cost was really $330 with Analogue, a company based in HK, China, acting as aggressive tax collectors, forcing you to upgrade your credits cards so they work with their payment processor, and forcing the more premium shipping rates when you've already waited months/years in the first place! The company owe us an apology to be quite frank!

The PC Engines Library is so overrated... just like the Saturn and Dreamcast libraries have become in retrospect. 🤔We americans (and brits) make such a fuss about these systems, while in Japan they are regarded as 'good' systems people treat like we do the NES. Meaning, they regard them fondly as once massively popular pieces of gaming history that pathed the way (PC engine was THE most popular gaming console in japan for a short time). But ask many of them in 2024 what they think about the NEC consoles... and you will learn that they are generally considered primitive and long in the tooth to many 'older' gamers there. The PC engine especially was overproduced, and currently no one wants them - hence the abundance of stock at Super Potato for so many years, and cheap importing costs - as in it's own country, the retro gaming population had their NEC nostalgia bubble a few years back, and have largely moved on. It's us westerners who seem to have inflated their imports to the sky, and act like the systems had god-tier libraries... when in reality, the SNES and Playstation stomped a hole in them. I actually owned a PC engine since the early 2000s, and STILL have both my original sega saturn & dreamcast consoles that I got when they launched in the US as teenager and young man.... I really liked them in their time (you could say I was actually obsessed even), and all these years later I certainly do have respect and love for many games on those systems... but it's not like I'm going back to them constantly every week or two. It is not like I am realistically going to neglect my backlog of awesome modern Switch and PC/PS5 releases... to pop in Magical Chase, Sapphire or Super Air Zonk.... or break out my Saturn all the time just to play Marvel vs Capcom or the fan-translation of the 'good' port of Grandia? Especially when I have those on my modern systems and PC - or on a handheld at my leisure. lol. 😄 Now I admittedly have the advantage of owning the original hardware (which I don't use), and am blessed to also own a MISTER and the Analogue Pocket (with dock and community cores)... but even if I gave all that away... I just don't play these systems very much. I play SNES, Gameboy and Playstation games a lot thanks to my pocket and mister (again: I still have the real hardware, but it's inconvenient to use)... but even those I neglect more often for newer software. I am not stuck in the past and like to play kinds of games and mix it up (not married to the past). I can only imagine someone who missed out on these getting *_REALLY INTO_* PC Engine or Saturn hard for a year or so... but then eventually moving on because (even accounting for imports) there really isn't all that much software (especially 'good' compelling experiences) to hold the interest of anyone who doesn't already have a big collection. And the thought of a newbie spending $300-$600 on a Analogue Duo (as I have seen them being scalped second-hand already) just to play a single system (even it its media is in two formats)... where 90% of folks will probably just use a flashcart and burnt discs because they can't afford original games.... that just seems like disappointment and a purchase regret waiting to happen. I REALLY wish people who actually have these systems and have played these games (even thru emulation) would more publically temper the narrative around these systems. Yes, Saturn, Dreamcast and PC Engine are GREAT systems... but they are nowhere near the hype as many youtubers and community fanboys have projected for many years now. We have naive people in the public actually debating buying expensive systems like these, who have never even experienced the library thru emulation - who just have a gut feeling and idea about this 'legendary' hardware, because a whole bunch of people they respect on the internet in the hardcore side of the retro gaming community basically said that Saturn, Dreamcast and PC Engine are the end-all-be-all (like the used to portray the NEO GEO AES a decade ago). That you MUST own them. They are the greatest things since sliced bread. That they might as well be the return of christ. When in reality, all three of those systems have relatively small libraries (even when Japanese games are accounted) compared to more well known systems - and they are platforms that were guilty of focusing a bit too heavily on shmups, puzzle games and fighters... and a lot of those games were either ported elsewhere later, or where the same experience with a different skin. I know there is a mystique around systems like the PC Engine here in the west... but there is a reason that such a mega popular console is largely considered 'mid' tier these days to japanese born middle-aged retro gamers these days. Like the NES here, it was hyped to oblivion... but here we are in 2024 and that hype has largely died down several years back. Everyone is kinda _NES'd_ out now... and we are starting to realize a lot of those "Hidden Gems" on second, third, 80th playthru... might not have been 'quite' as amazing and perfect as we thought. The little flaws and things start to finally rear their heads. These days I feel that people are generally far more critical of the NES library than they were even 4 years ago. 🤔 And compared to PC Engine, the NES library was monolithic in size, and per capita had vastly more games that would be considered 'classics'. Your average japanese gamer would say exactly the same about the famicom vs the PC Engine. I only say this, because it is not healthy to see so many videos and people STILL in 2024 pushing the hype machine around the PC Engine on the unaware 'causal' public who might like dabbling in retro games... because it just results in what I am seeing since the Analogue Duo released. Which is a whole lot of comments on the internet from people who spent all that money on one, who say that this is their first time even playing a PC engine game in their lives!? I have literally seen dozens of posts on youtube and other places in recently from people asking how to burn discs, where to get flash carts, and generally being completely unaware of what games there are for the system after having (in some cases) dropped scalper prices for a Analogue Duo. Don't get me wrong: I think the Analogue Duo indeed *DOES* have a audience that it's perfect for - which are the informed serious fans of the system who have long collected for PC Engine, and for whom have lots of games... but whom are realizing that PC Engine Duos, Duo Rs and Turbo CD systems are on large starting to fail in mass in recent years. And it's getting more expensive and harder to replace parts and get things repaired. For that audience, a several hundred dollar investment in new hardware that might last them another decade or more is totally worth it to preserve their ability to play their extremely expensive physical collections... and in HDMI and pristine video quality (with new CD drives). And I am definitely NOT accusing THIS video of 'pushing hype' in anyway, as it actually does quite the opposite of suggesting alternatives. But all the content online I have seen over the years, and even lately around the Analogue Duo... it's not helpful, when it veers from a review to worshipping the platform. Getting a product for purposes of review has turned into evangelizing for the PC Engine and the Analogue Duo for some of these fanboy channels. And when I look on at these recent PC Engine related comments, threads and questions all over social media (and they are so many of them), from fresh-faced and bushy tailed newbies who got their fancy new Analogue Duo.... and literally have no clue what they are doing with it, where to begin, or what they've even gotten themselves into. A mass of people recently asking for methods to burn discs, find compatible flashcarts (and where to buy and how to use them), where do you get PC engine roms and asking people what games are good for the system.... I just can't help but think to myself: "in a few months to a year, you are most likely going to be very burnt-out and openly bemoaning while asking yourself if you _'regret the purchase?'_ - because it has been collecting dust under your TV for the last 6 months while you played Super Mario RPG and whatever hotness of the month has graced your PS5. I've seen this time and time again when I worked in video games retail and would see trends pop up thanks to youtube, then people a year later coming in trying to trade modded systems they don't play or pricy clone consoles that only play a single system that it turned out 'they didn't like that much after all'. Only to leave with a emulation handheld and store credit.🤷‍♂
