See how I achieved the wash and go using the Shingling Technique for the first time. Made a few mistakes along the way, but managed to pull it off because of years of experience doing wash n go on my hair and pure Determination. So this is a Technique and Hair Journey video all in one.
Products Used:
Shea Moisture Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner with Jojoba Oil, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E
Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker

This was a great video. I loved how you weren't afraid to admit that you made mistakes. The shingling method is my go to style. I've gotten my method down to an hour.

i think i first saw this technique by Teri LaFlesh for the Tightly Curly Method but I don't think that's what she called it. I usually get impatient with shingling so I just smooth in larger sections. also for some reason, the curlmaker doesn't give me enough holding power. I need to use my Ecostyler :-) Your curls look AMAZING by the end of the week

The first time I did the shingling method it took about 3 1/2 + hours, as well...Lol! I had to get better at it!! Im down to 2 hours including my hair washing/detangle! I've been deep conditioning overnight lately. Your hair came out really, really nice!! Luv it! :-D xoxo

Chevy2020 Thank you!!! I would love to do 2 hours start to finish. But I don't like sleeping with wet hair, lol, so I spend 30 minutes steam deep conditioning on wash day :( a necessity for my low porosity hair. It takes 3.25 hours start to finish when I rake and smooth. The technique is on 20 minutes of the overall time. The struggle, lol. Have a blessed day!

Deadra Rahaman Hang in there, it gets better over time. As with anything, practice makes perfect. If it helps you to know, I had specific targets that I worked to achieve as I worked to improve my washngo. First, was moisture retention. Second, was definition. Third was movement. Fourth was length. Now it's more length with all the others successfully conquered. I said all that to let you know the perfect washngo for me was developed in stages. I hope that helps. Wishing you best!!!

Thank you for the tips/advice! I'm not new to being natural and have perfected my flat twist outs and like you get 6/7 day greatness. I wanted to expand on wash and gos this summer. 6 or so weeks into it and i'm still looking for the right product combo. Moisture is always a top priority for me, but just terrible outcomes of late. I'm also looking to reduce the amount of time it takes to do my hair and haven't conquered that either. Movement is one I had not thought about in this context so your advice is a very good check list! Thanks again.

Hey just subscribed, great informative videos. Looking forward to perfecting those wash n go's. just out of interest when your hair was much shorter how did you set your hair at bed time. I cannot pineapple my hair due to length with wash n go's but just needed advice on how to set it at night, as well as how to get another wear out of the wash n go. Day two is a struggle as it just does not look as good. I have low porosity hair especially at the back with high density strands so it can be a bushy mess at times. I cannot let the steam of the shower wake up the curls it just frizzes. any suggestions? Your hair is a work of art!

Wow that was work...lol...but well worth it in the end, as it came out looking amazing! Do you use hair color at all? If so, will you please share the brand/color, etc. Sorry if you've addressed this before. Tfs

Beautiful! Was the definition a little different in the low porosity section? Was the definition in the low porosity section better with shingling or was it better the way you usually wash -n - go?
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty

Trinity Grace Hi Trinity, thank you!!! I got more definition in the Low Porosity section using this method because I used a combination of the two techniques. First I did the Rake & Smooth to apply the product (my leave in conditioner followed by Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker) Then after smoothing I began to shingle. Since these curls are achieved one at a time I made sure each curl was defined before moving on to the next. It was a lot of work, but in the end I was pleased with the results. So much so that I don't think I can go back to rake and smooth alone. Probably only if I am pressed for time. :)

Is your leave in applied on soaking wet hair? And do you apply it in sections before the curl maker? Really trying to learn how to use the curl maker.
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty

rinae Kay Hi Rinae Kay, that is a great question because I forgot to mention it in the video. First, I rinsed the deep conditioner just before applying product, one section at a time. So my hair is soaking wet when I applied my leave in conditioner then Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker. I work in one section at a time for more control and to ensure complete coverage. When I get to the Low Porosity section, I have to squeeze as much water out as possible to make room for the leave in condition, followed by the Curl Maker. If your hair is normal porosity you do not need to do this additional step. I hope this helps, let me know how it turns out :-)

Embrace Natural Beauty, I would like further clarification on a reply you gave to another subscriber. You said you squeeze out the water in your low porosity area before applying LI and the Curl Maker. Please explain the reason ? I thought it is important to retain as much moisture in our hair as possible. I appreciate any feedback because my hair is mostly low porosity and I am trying to understand when it's better to have saturated or simply wet hair in order to achieve better results from my overall washngo's

+Alaina Knight Hi, it's hard to explain clearly, but I believe I demonstrated it in more recent videos. If you're able to participate in my live broadcast I would be happy to go in depth with demonstration and explanation. I do a live broadcast every sunday at 8pm EST on Periscope. You can download the app to your smartphone and follow me @EmbraceNBeauty I truly want you to understand. Blessings! Abena

Do you refresh your curls in between your next wash day?
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty 9 жыл бұрын
Janice Hollman No, because I style on soaking wet hair and air dry I get enough moisture to last the entire hairstyle, anywhere from 7 to 10 days.

if the hair is a little flat after a few days, I use a spray bottle of water. just mist a little, do not saturate the hair. also, sometimes you may need just a LITTLE bit of gel/holding/styler product.
