It's 2024 and thank you for this video! I love my old school Kenmore washer and used this video to help me do a complete transmission and clutch replacement. It got a new timer about a year ago so I figured I was committed. I'll be back to drop another comment in 20 years!

Thank you for the video. I could just kiss you. My husband and I purchased the part and installed it this morning. I did one load and the problem appears fixed. It is such a relief. The old clutch didn't appear to be broken but was covered in black debris. Again, thank you so much. You saved me $100s of dollars.

This is the best video I have found on the replacement of a clutch. Just a realization: returning the Retaining Clip is not as easy as shown on the video. Also, I broke my D clip. Besides that, we are happy with the repaired washing machine. We should repair things than throw them away Thank you from the Philippines.

Great video! I just did this repair and it was a cakewalk. I just disconnected the pump and left the motor attached to the gearbox. It slid out easily and wasn't too heavy all as one unit. Doing it this way allowed me to leave the cover and everything on, other than the agitator of course.

Great video, was very easy to follow. The clutch springs I got were light blue and dark blue and the one in the machine was between the two! Instructions said blue or black! I went with the light blue because it looked like a heavier spring for my large capacity machine. Running the machine now and all seems good except a very strange squeak while agitating.

Appreciate the video but I would edit @ 11:19 the placement of the brake cam and/or the configuration of the cam is important for inserting the clutch, also need to mention the clutch spring needs to be moved so it won't hit the brake cam. Also, in the case of an older and more used washer a rubber mallet will be useful to hammer the clutch assembly in order for the three bolt mounting holes to line up with the mounting points on the clutch base to re-install the screws.

Thanks for the great video! My problem is, if left unattended my washer drains but fails to spin. However, if I hear it draining the water and then raise and relower the lid, I hear the drive engage and the spin cycle will actually start. To me, it sounds like some sort of clutch issue. For $20, it can't hurt to replace it on my 15 yr old washer. Thanks again!

I just finished replacing the clutch on my washing machine. Great video! It helped me do the job easily. One question I have is when I lifted the washer off its back and set it upright, there was the sound of a small metal object hitting tile. Lifting it back up I found a small gold color piece that looks very much like a common head nail, about 1.5 inches long, with a hold through the pointed tip that looks like something a cotter pin or retaining clip of some sort would go through to keep it in place. I set the washer on its back and looked all through it, but nothing seemed out of place. Any idea what this "nail" is for? Thanks again for a really great video!!

Very comprehensive video, sir, and well done. My washer tub and agitator function normally, but I'm guessing the clutch is the source of initially loud, tapering-off screeching that occurs as the spin cycle spools up. Before I pull this thing apart, what do you think?

Very grateful with all I have learned with you, Sr. My question is that my washer machine doesn't have the ring that you remove in minute 10:35. I have already change the Clutch assembly, shaft Direct Drive, washer motor coupling, water bomb, and many other little tings , but it still make a lot of noise between wash and spin. And I can't find the ring between the shaft and the clutch assembly. I think that's the problem, but , since I got my washer machine used, I really don't know what happened with it.

Thanks for the vid, very helpful; empowering actually. Question if you have time: I have an Inglis IS43000 that appears to function properly until the spin cycle decreases or the lid is opened during that cycle. When either of these occurs the machine makes a loud banging sound and the tub appears to be vibrating as much as spinning. I've dismantled the thing and the 'usual suspects' look okay. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

This great video has helped tremendously in disassembly. I have a Sears Kenmore Ultra Fabric Care IV washing machine model no. 110.92593220. Water for wash runs fine, but agitation and spin cycles make a constant grinding noise although there is no visible tub/basket motion during agitation and spin. The coupling is not broken, and I am not sure if the motor, clutch, or gear case/transmission is the issue. Any suggestions?

My direct-drive Kenmore 500 produces a loud "bang" sound every time a spin cycle begins. I am fairly certain the noise is produced by the spring portion of the clutch "slamming" into the brake cam, to release the brakes and allow the tub to spin...Is the loud "bang" normal? Other than that, the tub spins normally and rapidly and there seems to be no damage done to the brake cam or other components of the basket drive.

Its a Simpson eziset750, the tub turns clockwise so much then locks, and if I turn it anti clockwise it starts clicking.... while its washing, it agitates only in clockwise direction. If I hold the agitator and spin the tub it moves so far in each direction before locking(and no clicking). thanks for the quick response. Karl

I used this video about a year ago to replace the clutch in my washer. The agitator worked and spun perfectly afterward. Unfortunately, my washer is once again not spinning. Is it common to replace the clutch after one year? Or is there something else that might be wrong with my washer. Thanks for the great video.
@partselect

A couple of parts might cause the problem you’re having. I’d start with having a look with direct drive motor coupling. Normal use will create wear on the coupling and eventually wear these plastic disks out. Inspect those to see if they are faulty or if your washer is belt driven then inspect the belt/idler pulley. If they are okay then have a look at the motor and transmission and make sure they are working properly. Did you notice any dust or burning smell when the washer was in use? That's a common symptom of a faulty clutch. We have information available on our site in our free repair help section. I’d suggest going through it as it’s quite helpful. Let us know if you need additional help and if so provide the model number.

Great video and I've ordered from you folks before but I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to. I have the IP43001 (Inglis Washer) model and the only thing that doesn't work is the agitator. It spins fine, empties the water fine and breaks fine. It just doesn't agitate at all and there is a slight burning smell. Am I looking at a possible transmission issue? :( I just want to be sure before ordering parts. Many thanks.

I appreciate the effort put into this instructional video. I cannot get my drive shaft out. I can pull it out about 3-4 inches but no further. I have pulled my back trying. You do not show removing the spanner nut. Is it necessary to remove that? That is the only thing that I can see that might be keep it from pulling out completely from the bottom. I ordered the spanner nut wrench tonight because it will not budge using other methods and work arounds. My machine is 20 years old, at least, and lots of crud covers everything, so its hard to really identify the parts, but have managed to get everything out/off but the last few inches of this drive shaft! Please advise if you can. Thanks.

I posted on another great video of yours about the agitator not spinning with the drum during spin cycle. I thought maybe belt, only to find its a direct drive motor. I guess that helps narrow it down lol.. I took the washer agitator off completely to observe it during spin cycle and noticed that grooved shaft does not spin, tho the metal disc and plastic base does spin. Watching this video, it seems the next logical step would be to try this, do you think so? Thanks so much

Excellent videos. All went as shown until I tried to remove transmission. As I slide out agitator shaft there is a mechanical interference (clunk) that prevents it from being removed. This interference happens at about 2-inches. All seems free and clear, but the shaft will not slide out. Any thoughts? Model LA9500XTN1 S/N: CB0503088. Thank you!

Pull harder or tap the shaft. I had the same problem and just pulled it out. No need to pull the housing or remove the motor (unless you are replacing the motor coupling and then it is easier after the motor/transmission is out).
