Troubleshooting, the lost art. Very calm and deliberate working it through. Our machine has selector push in switches and one wasn't pushed all the way in. Must have been bumped to get stuck at the spin cycle.

Thank you! I had worked on my dryer before, but never a washer, and I was afraid to tackle this. I have a very similar Whirpool washer, and everything was identical to your video. And now my washer works. I spent $53.00 on the part because I went down the street to a local shop to buy it, but I would have wasted the additional savings from ordering online in the local laundromat, lol. Thanks for this video! I was able to do the job for the price of the lid switch and it works great now! The only trouble I had was getting the casing back on - I pinched my fingers a few times because I didn't know where to look to line it up at first, lol

Awesome dude that's exactly my prob checked the machine heard no click got a stick poked it in the hole and the switch clicked. I wouldn't have known what part to replace without that simple diagnostic trick. Thanks for the video you are a legend!!

Hey thanks so much man I had a full load in the washer and it stopped working with all the water in it my lid switch had broken loose from wherever it mounts to and I was able to remount it after finishing the load holding the switch manually greatly appreciate it, awesome video

I had to make a new mount because the slots that those screws screw into broke off so it was free hanging, took a tiny hobby saw and cut off the jagged piece and took a big metal mounting bracket thing and bolted it to the dryer and glued the switch into that bracket so it's fixed in place and it worked! Thanks again dude I never would have know there was a switch there because when looking in that hole you saw nothing because the switch was hanging loose.

Hi Lavern, a small clear plastic tube has fallen off the big plastic tub. Try leaning the washer back against the wall at 45 degrees and look up from underneath on the right hand side to find the loose tube and just press it back onto its connection on the plastic tub. : )

I just unscrew the two screws, and pulled the piece out just a tad. Tied a zip tie around it to squeeze it together again. Pushed it inside, put the screws in and that took care of it.

Thank you Scot sincerely for your quick response to my request. When the washing cycle finishes that is it it does not move and try to move the timer to spin cycle nothing happens and move the timer again slowly towards the end of the complete wash cycle nothing happens.

I am very impressed with your video very well done and you certainly have lots of experience, I have a problem with my Inglis washing machine it does the wash and once the wash is finished it quitsI tried to move the timer slightly forward nothing happens. it has three kind of setting Normal Casual and Delicate Washes in all of them and quits in each setting and tried moving the timer in all of them after wash nothing happens. Please help

Thanks! My washer wouldn't drain so I figured is was a bad pump. I didn't think about the lid switch. I paused the video at 1:15 and stuck a pencil in there and it started draining.

Not sure why lid switch was not being activated so I bent the lid a little so it is closer to the switch. Video helped explain the possible problems. But would rather not have to take the entire thing apart to change out a switch.

If it it makes no humming sound. It is the lid switch. If it is humming, it is a seized water pump or bad start cap. If it's MAKEING a whiring sound you have a broken transmision coupler. These things are so easy to diagnose and repair that they should be teaching repair in jr. high school.

I was a little confused because you said in the video the switch sounds like its working and were going to replace the rubber coupler (from being loaded to heavy)....which I never saw? Then it was working after you disconnected the switch and put it back on? What was the problem? It was a nice comprehensive video otherwise, showing how to replace a lid switch. I have a washer that filled, washed, filled the rinse water and stopped. It makes no noise at all and is just sitting full of rinse water and the timer was stopped before the spin cycle. I have tried turning it to spin cycle, nothing. My lid switch clicks. No motor or noises, or sound of any kind, just like a dead washer full of rinse water. Any idea what it could be? Much appreciated.

Update: After unplugging the washer for about thirty minutes I then tried plugging it back in. Now it i no longer dead noise wise. It still does nothing at any phase of the dial, but now every time I pull the dial, it makes a humming sound. Nothing happens but it now hums acknowledging that power is reaching the unit. SO something reset from unplugging however, nothing works at any phase. Not sure if that would change the possible problem or not? Thanks.

Hi Scott, Thanks for the quick reply. Took me a few days to get around to it, but finally took off the whole casing of the washer, disconnected both hoses to the pump, water immediately drained from the tub, no obstruction seen in the pump (which is very narrow, but I can turn it and see nothing) or within the hoses. Should I move onto a possible motor coupler? Or you have another idea? Thanks.

Are you sure, because my lid switch is working. When the power reset, the lid switch was cutting off the humming sound when it was lifted up, and then began humming again when the lid was lowered. Wouldn't this confirm the lid switch works? Thanks.

p.s if your washer starting to smell check the agitator. the teeth aka dog agits may be bad

simply remove the agitator remove the drum nut. take the case off remove the pump remove the motor and the wiring harness then tilt it at a 45-degree angle and remove the three bolts that hold the transmission in pull the transmission out replace the clutch PS I don't get paid enough

my machine was making a loud rhythmic knocking during the washing cycle and then nothing and a burning electrical smell. Someone said it might be my solenoid. But I didn't think the solenoid would cause a knocking noise. What do you think. And thanks for your detailed videos!!!!

Sounds like the tube is uneven,the burning smell is the motor trying to turn the tub,the transmission is either locked up or the clutch,the motor will keep trying to turn,often burn up or break a belt,if the clutch is bad.that will burn up a washer motor quick because the timer will make a clicking noise,send a siginal to the motor,it will spin,if any thing is causing it not to spin such as the clutch or transmission usualy the motor will try to keep turning,burn a belt,cause the smell of rubber or often times the coils inside the washer motor will give off a burnt smell..the clutch should be located under the tub,a washer spanner wrench,a hammer would be needed

There are several sites where you can type in your model number and it will give you the part number. Like repairclinic.com. The first number they give you is their part number, but on the item page it should give you the OEM (Whirlpool) part number, and then you can search for that. I see Amazon lets you search by model number too.

Hi I have an old speed queen its not leaking, i love this machine it washes but when it goes to spin it trips the switch electricity so wont drain and spin could you help and let me know what could be the problem and how i could fix it, thanks

Sounds like something is preventing the spin basket from spinning and when the motor tries to go to spin it overheats and trips the breaker.

I have a older model .. you have to flip the washing machine on it's side to get under the machine. I took the water pump out to see if there was a sox in it... none. I initially thought it might be the lid switch but still not sure. When I press the lid switch down I hear sound of the switch and motor but no spinning nor draining... what do you think?

Thanks to your vedio I found out its the lid switch, it work while I was holding it by hand, decided to tape it in place, stopped working. So I removed the tape, the switch fall apart. Oh well, thought I was a generous saving money an labor.

Hi my washer does click when I life the lid, so does that mean the LID switch is not the issue? Is starts and fills with water but it wont drain and go into any spin cycle :(

Hi, Turns out the connecters for the control (or controller?) where loose! Calibrated it afterwards. Seems to be working now so I hope that fixes the problem. Thanks again.

Mines was open the glue didnt hold it together so I used a zip tie to keep it closed and it spins and drains again

I've reset and tested my washer and I'm thinking it may be the timer or the lid switch. It makes am audible click when closed or when pushed, but when pressed the drum doesn't spin but makes a strained whirring sound. It pours out water fine bit doesn't drain nor will it agitate or spin. Mine is a Whirlpool Kenmore 80 Series top washer. Is there anyway you could help me trouble shoot?

You’ve got a sock stuck in your water pump. Just need to unplug it and pull the machine away from the wall by about 2 1/2 feet and then lean it back to 45° and you’ll see the water pump. Just remove the two clips that hold it on and then remove the two hoses. Be ready for lots of water to come out. Then you can use a pair of pliers to pull out the sock or the underwear they got sucked into the pump.

Hi everything works good Except the spin cycle. It will spin with only a couple pieces of clothing in it. Like it doesn't have the power to spin anything more than 2 shirts and 1pair of shorts muchless a "small" load. About to go buy a washer, any advice? Thank you!

I have a Kenmore washer that went down 10 days ago. I was told by some of the techs on line that the part the belt pulley and about the part was my problem. I ordered and bought the new gears and belt, but it didn't fix the problem. I then went back online and was told that the lid switch wasn't working properly. I ordered and got the part in the mail today. I installed it today. The wife put some clothes in it and we thought it was going to work, it soon started having problems again. Now it will wash the clothes and when it comes to the spin cycle it just stops. Can you help, please.

Hello I got a whirlpool full of water n won't spin or drain. The washer just makes a buzzing noise. I pulled couple of socks out from the bottom but still does not work. Lid switch or maybe more socks stuck in there?

+Spring Locks There's a sock caught in the water pump IMPELLOR . Once you remove the pump you can use needle nose pliers to remove the sock. Make sure to clamp the big black tube from the washer before you pull it from the pump or a ton of water will spill.

I do believe my washer got overloaded and it stopped mid cycle full of water and now will not turn back on! When I pull the engage knob out it makes a buzzing noise but will not start the washer. Could this be a lid switch problem or do I have more serious problems?

+Brian Schmidt Hi Brian, a small sock got stuck in the water pump and seized the motor. Lean it back to 45 degrees against the wall and from underneath remove the two spring clips that hold on the pump. Next clamp the hose coming from the tub and remove both hoses. Use needle nose pliers to remove the sock or thong that's jamming the pump impellor . Put it back together and it will work like new.
