Lafayette is buried in Paris, his grave filled with american soil, and a flag displayed since 1834 when he died. The flag remained even during German occupation in WWII. This flag is renewed every year on July 4th.

@FredericGaillot3 жыл бұрын
@@SuchIsLife424 That's a modern 50 star flag which is used each year, and this flag is then given to a different state in the USA and there is a ceremony to host that flag when a state capitol receive it. By now, I suppose each state capitol should have at least 3 flags that were flown over Lafayette's grave in Paris, at a different time, so probably some of them did not have the 50 stars yet when they were received. A nice tradition !

Thank you/Merci to both Lafayette and the great nation of France, our oldest ally. 🇺🇸❤ 🇫🇷 It is never taught enough here in American scholastic history curriculums that without the support of the French (especially in the earlier years, when the other European powers shyed from the risk of taking sides against the British), we, the United States, *might* not have ever come to exist today or win our Revolution. May we never take our alliance, nor their contribution to our nation's birth and history for granted (despite some differences between our countries over the years, they are far outweighed by our mutual successes together!). ~From an American historian/geopolitical nerd... Vive La France! :)

The greatest contributor to this deficit in our children’s education is in the main that American Public Schools have given up the teaching of American History. In it’s place we now instruct young children in their many sexual options in numerous perversions. We have exchanged reality for a perversion of fantasy.

Your comment was 4 years ago I wonder if schooling is still relevant in your life at this time but anyways, I hear you. it is very interesting, inspiring, and entertaining to learn history but these great men and women you are fond of learning about somethings they ALL had in common was determination and courage. If you are determined to do well in school(meaning getting adequate sleep at night to be sharp tomorrow) to learn as much as you possibly can which truly will help you later on. And if you have the courage to pursue something great, and so much bigger than ourselves it will be you that people will look up to and want to learn all about! With all that in mind do your best in school and just be a good person. You will be on the right course and soon will discover the next step you need to take. You can change this world I hope that's something you know and believe. Don't give up on that idea and do not give up on yourself.

I find it interesting that so many men and women were willing to give their all for the possibility of a land of liberty. It inspires me to be my best self and to continue to make sure that I do my part as an American citizen to honor and protect the right's that these brave men and women gave their life for. I just hope that I, like these Patriots, can leave a better, more liberty filled country then the one I was born into.

Here's a guy who, it's hard to find anything bad to say about him. He knew what he wanted and went after it with a single mind. Though he had ambition, it wasn't for fame, glory or wealth. He fought for a cause he believed in. And damn if he didn't do it with style.

I am writing because my mother will most likely haunt me if I do not. Lafayette at one point was not getting aid from France. His cousin Lewis Lestarjette provided him with the necessary funds to continue his battle with the British. It is also well known in our family that Lestarjette gave more finances to the Revolution than any other individual in America. He had come to America years earlier and settled in Charleston on the battery. He opened a school and taught French. His home still stands on the battery today and is pointed out by the tour guides. Louis had a son who moved northward toward Walterboro , He had several daughters before finally having a son to carry on the Lestarjette name. Unfortunately, his son died at age 10 leaving no one to carry on the family name. The daughters got together and decided that one daughter would give the name of Lestarjette to one of their children and each generation would pass the name to the next in honor of their grandfather. It was quite an honor to carry the middle name of Lestarjette. My middle name is Lestarjette and I passed it down to my daughter Julia Lestarjette Cieluch Jackson. Unfortunately, children today, are not interested in family heritage and the stories of their ancestors. This is sad because America might not be in such peril of becoming a Communist nation otherwise. Terror and anarchy are why people came to America to form a free nation. We have forgotten why our grandfathers fought and died to keep America free. If We The People do not wake up NOW, we will sink into the depths of oblivion. America will loose her God given rights and exist no more.

I am proud of going to the college named after Lafayette. One reason I applied to this college was the name Lafayette College located in Easton, Pennsylvania. We are proud to be named after this great person who was very important to the winning of the revolutionary war. If you are a scholar of this war you will know that we almost lost the war several times. The final blow was the trap of the British Army by the French Fleet. Long live the memory of Lafayette. LAFAYETTE COLLEGE was FOUNDED IN THE 1840s after the visit of Lafayette to the US in the prior decade.

There were many foreign commanders who fought in the Revolution and helped America win its freedom. Count Pulaski, Baron Steuben, Kosciuszko...but Lafayette outranks them all, not in mere military rank, but in impact. He may not have been born on American soil, but as far as I'm concerned, he's a true son of liberty.

"America has joined forces with the Allied Powers, and what we have of blood and treasure are yours. Therefore it is that with loving pride we drape the colors in tribute of respect to this citizen of your great republic. And here and now, in the presence of the illustrious dead, we pledge our hearts and our honor in carrying this war to a successful issue. Lafayette, we are here." -Colonel Charles E Stanton of the AEF in Paris, 1917.
