The two types of horse neck clams their common names are pacific and fat gaper clam. Pacific is narrower and the fat gaper is round like a football. Before you dig the pacific gaper clam has a hard shell around the tip of the siphon. The pacific gaper makes for better sashimi because their siphon is firmer, the fat gaper is better for chowder or congee.

Tolmie Beach behind cabelas has the bent nose clams. Taste fine, but they hold a lot of sand and need to purge. I'll take the manilla it's sitting next to personally

Weather in the puget sound or any harbor that has a tidal flow not directly on the ocean beaches. You should find them. They are a very common clam. If you can dig a razor clam on the beach. There probably wont be any cockles there.
