We spent the last 3.5 days road tripping 2,100+ miles from Washington to Texas to finish our van conversion and eventually move into it. While we were on a bit of a time crunch, we managed to do some fun things and see some beautiful places in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico! It was a blast and made us even more excited for van life!

Hi y'all! We’re Adam and Kathryn, an adventurous married couple living in a Sprinter van! You can often find us scoping out the best coffee shops, eating tacos, climbing mountains, cuddling our fur child Kona, and dreaming about Hawaii.
We created Adventures of A+K to help busy, budget conscious, and adventurous travelers maximize their vacation time and money wherever they go through detailed travel guides, vlogs, and resources. Our goal: to help you spend less time (and stress!) planning your trip and more time enjoying it!

WOW!!! ABQ, you're in our backyard. And yes, the sandia peak trailhead is popular. We've got the Petroglyph Park just down the street from us. Thanks for the heads up on the food places. When we got our house Covid hit and most of those are closed. Be safe

We definitely want to come back to ABQ! We ended up hunkering down there for a few days during a snowstorm in October in 2019 too and have always enjoyed it there!

My husband and I are taking a road trip from Conroe (near Houston) to Seattle in the summer (we are both first year teachers and are so excited to have the summers off for traveling). This series has been so helpful! Thank you for sharing your adventures and making it so much easier to plan pit stops along the way! Edit- we are going to Big Bend and El Paso for spring break and I just saw you ALSO have videos about that! Again, THANK YOU for sharing your travels!

Thank you Darian! We also took the California and Arizona route at Christmas (we have a few videos from that trip. Unfortunately our hard drive with the rest of the videos died 😭) and it was AMAZING!

93 degrees at 9.40am in Moab - sounds about right. I was there last August and was arriving at trail heads for sun rise to beat the heat! The Fiery Furnace was a good trail to do as its very shaded, and despite its name, much cooler to be walking on late morning/lunch time. It's in my top 3 favourite hikes ever too - in case you want tips for when you eventually make it there.

The summer heat there was crazy! We went back this November and it was snowing 😱 so now we need to visit when it’s a bearable 50-60 degrees lol! The fiery furnace is such a fun name hahah we will definitely have to check out that hike! We WILL go back there and fully explore! 😃

@@AdventuresofAplusK The Fiery Furnace is best described like mother nature's maze for grown ups. The National Park has purposefully put only a small number of tiny arrows in there, so it feels like a real adventure. We got lost multiple times, but that was half the fun! You'll need a permit to hike it, we got ours the day before from the visitors info centre. Devils Garden trail is also stunning. Best done on a morning from a photo POV, but there's an insane amount of different things to see on it. Given the time of year we were there, we powered out to double O Arch, then as it got hotter, took a more leisurely pace coming back stopping off at/detouring off to the other arches. The Windows are beautiful at sun set - our Air B&B host had recommended them over Delicate Arch as he said the crowds that would have been there would have spoilt it. We did delicate Arch early morning before Fiery Furnace, it was 'okay', but not the show stopper for us. I hope this helps with your planning for when you get to do the park properly!

Wow you rock!!! Thank you so much for all of these tips! A maze sounds like a blast and we are all about less busy trails. We were going to do delicate arch this past November for sunrise, but two people died on it the day before and it freaked us out too much and we bailed. I’ll be screenshotting this for when we get back there!

You all have to come back to Albuquerque one year in October for International Balloon Fiesta! If you can, see a mass ascension in the morning and a balloon glow in the evening. It's amazing. Also do La Luz trail for sunset and take the tram back down. And eat tacos at Tako Ten!

That traveling with a dog changes things. I plan to do this trip in reverse this summer. I have a casita to pull but will have to leave my dog in the rv while I shop or go get food. Mostly I will eat from my fridge. I need to find those falls!

Another wonderful vlog and I'm trying to catch up! hehe So sad that you're not in Seattle anymore but what an adventure you're on! I used to live in Yakima before I got married, my first home away from home. Also lived in Idaho, our first home after we got married. We were stationed at Mt. Home AFB, which is about 40 miles from Boise. NOTHING in Mt. Home at the time so made many trips to Boise.

Moab is one of my 2 favorite little mountain towns not in Colorado but within a 6 hour drive of Boulder, the other being Taos, NM. Fun fact: in the spring of 2015 I took a trip to Moab then to Taos the next month! Great Mexican food (Fiesta Mexicana in Moab) and some Mexican restaurant in Taos that idk the name of. But we (my friends and I) spent the rest of the rainy Moab day at Moab Coffee Roasters watching the car show. This was in April which I believe is when the Moab annual classic car parade takes place.

Oh nice!!! Seattle is incredible and we miss it everyday. Headed back there soon in our van though and we can’t wait! This route is a ton of fun to drive, but if you have extra time, we loooove the California and Oregon Coast route! If you have any questions about Seattle, let us know!

So in Michigan you can pump your own gas, but when I moved to the city I live in now, there is a gas station where they offer to pump it for you. It is literally the only place I know of in the area that does this. So, I pulled in not knowing they do that and the attendant scared the crap out of me when they approached lol

It is TERRIFYING if you're not used to it! You always hear about people getting robbed while pumping gas, so it's not a comforting feeling to have someone approach you suddenly haha

Great video! I'm looking to start our road trip next week from Vancouver WA to Houston TX. This will be my first time doing all the driving. Were there any rough patches you all hit on the road, or was it a pretty easy drive? Like far as icy roads.

Lovely trips!! Wanted to do this, this coming December. Seattle to Dallas! Since yall sold your own car, were you guys renting this car? Do you know if they charged more because of the drop-off location different than the pick up? Did Adam drove all the way from WA to TX or were you guys switched? Im wondering if I can do it solo :)

Hi! Yes we rented a car and it’s been many years since this trip so we don’t remember, but rental companies do usually charge more for one way rentals. I (Adam) probably drove the whole way. I do 95%+ of all of our driving so I imagine I did back then also As long as you take breaks you can do it! There is lots to see along the way!

Most likely, but snow storms can happen in Idaho, Washington, and Utah really anytime from now until then, so we'd definitely keep a close eye on the weather. We drove from Seattle to Marfa for the holidays one year, but we did the route through California and had no issues!

Question, i'm planning to move to TX from Tri Cities, Wa....is it a good option or idea to do that or is it better here in Washington?

Texas is great and has awesome food, but Washington is a much better fit for our lifestyle (we love to hike and be outdoors!). It really depends on what all you like though!

@@AdventuresofAplusK Well i'm not into that kinda stuff plus i come from a place where it has the same wather as Texas, only thing that worries me is money since Texas has a lower minimum pay rate.

Not sure how the cost of living is in Tri Cities, but the cost of living in Texas is typically a lot less than the West Coast! Houston or San Antonio would be the most affordable larger cities I believe.

@@AdventuresofAplusK is higher than SA that's for sure, i went there already because that's where i want to move, rent about the same as here and housing taxes are higher than here besides that SA is cheaper, I'm tired of the weather here.
