We've been using a #Kubota BX2822 front mount blower to clear our almost 800' dirt driveway this winter. After putting it through the paces for the better part of a season, hear our likes, dislikes, and what we are changing.

Good video, as usual. I'm in NH and have contacted sales people at Chappelle and found them to be very civil, knowledgeable, informative and helpful and will most likely purchase a unit from them in the very near future. The heat just came on today in our hose so it's time to get serious about test driving and deciding on which one to buy. Good luck with your homestead. Keep these videos coming.

Thanks for the review. This is my 2nd winter with a BX2816. Started having some issues with my chain coming off, ended up needing to replace it and noticed the teeth on my sprocket had gotten all ground down. Not sure exactly how that happened but with help from my neighbor got it replaced fairly cheaply. So a chainless set up sounds interesting to me. I have a BX23S.

I WANT to say, "THANKYOU." Time and effort - and a lot of great, upfront knowledge coupled w/experience and put to vid for all of us to see and learn from. 'Been more than curious about small tractors and snowblowers for quite a while. Just like the vid states, there didn't seem to be a whole lot or USEFUL information on Kubota and snowblower/options "out there." NOW THERE IS. SUPER THANKS. Great job.

I have the same BX2380 and blower setup here in Michigan. Love it! It makes very short work of my 700' driveway. I got the back blade with mine and it really helped pile up the smaller amounts of snow for just one pass with the blower.

I just built and installed a set of steel wheels on the sides of my front blower. I've got the 50" unit and I was always plowing some rocks with the runners. With the wheels it's a dream. I cut down my time almost in half because I can travel so much faster. It is always a pain on the first snow of the season so I'm not sure how the wheels will work but I'm on my 3rd snow fall and it's amazing. I am able to go literally flat out fast and the blower just eats anything I can throw at it. But NO rocks or dirt. Good video.

I also have the heavy duty front blower and it was not very dependable during one particular snow storm where the depth was about 20 cm and mixed with rain. The snow was akin to wet concrete. The chute clogged up every 30 feet. I didn't think of it at the time but I now have some anti snow/ice spray that hopefully will work on the auger and chute system.

Hi, I have a front mounted 50 inch blower on my BX25d, the only mod I did was fabricate some extra large shoe skids using 2.5 angle iron cutting and bending to bolt on, also added some baler belt cut to fit impellor to take up any gap between the housing, improves throwing wet slushy snow.

Great review thanks!! I haven't seen ANY on the commercial model for this tractor so this was very much helpful! I am searching for my next tractor, this one with a darn factory cab for the winter lol. I know after watching your review it will be this type of model over the other model which is chain driven . I have a BX2350 and have the chain model. I do 6 driveways with it on my street all 120 feet + long and it has held up well but I would much rather have a gear driven one like you purchased. Cheers!

I don't own a Kubota, (I have a JD 1025R with loader\mower\snowblower) but I thought your video was really informative. I do like the PTO quick connect more than the regular shaft on my 1025R. I'd love to see more videos on the tractor as we progress into spring\summer. I'm a little jealous you still have all that snow, I'm only a couple hours away from you to the west in northern NY and we've lost most of ours. Definitely a good quality video, not to long and not too short. I could see your channel taking off, and I look forward to seeing what you'll be putting up in the future.

Nick R Thanks! Most of the snow has melted off in the last few days, but I fear taking the blower off for the season. April can be a pretty snowy month around here! More tractor videos will definitely be happening. We are planning to resurface the driveway, level the backyard, fill a bunch of raised beds, and do some light logging next winter. So it’s going to get a workout!

Before you use the blower, pack the driveway and let it freeze. With any luck, the ice pack will last you the winter. For my rear blower, I also raise the blower an inch or two above the driveway until the frost provides a smooth surface. This winter with the frequent thaws, I left it in that setting and scraped lower with the loader if I needed to, using the blower to clear the banks.

Hello Mindful Homestead, I just ran across your channel. I just started my own channel this weekend. I have grown up on a farm in Iowa and many of the things that I took for granted in life are coming back around as more and more people are wanting to have their own land and raise their own meat, eggs, and have their own gardens. Certainly a much better and healthier choice than the Frankenfoods that are so commercially sold to an undereducated population. Enjoyed the review and with how you folks are liv ing I would like to welcome you to a little bit of Heaven.

That new front mount hitch looks like a great feature to have installed, and they only have I think 3 attachments for it right now but I bet as time goes by they'll be able to expand upon that with some additional attachments. I am just getting ready to make the jump to my first tractor and looking at the BX2680 with a loader, roto tiller, box blade, and have no idea what else yet, but with that K-Connect front hitch option I may get that and the front blade, I have a snow blower for my lawn tractor that seems to do fine so I'll keep running it for the few times that I get enough snow to use a blower, I think the front blade would be used more in my case.

I have a Model 1870 Kubota w/50" snowblower and a 350' half circle gravel driveway. I also have a couple of neighbors with 4 Wheelers and blades who I have watched clear their drives. Once a base is set, I use the blower as a blade and stack the snow from hard to reach blower areas and then use the blower to finally relocate the snow according to the wind. A lot less frustrating than blowing snow in your face the whole time.

I have always had 3pt mount blowers because of the pain of mounting front blowers. I could not go without my loader on for even a week, and I like having it to use along with my blower for snow clean up. As for blowing in reverse, I wouldn't want to do it all day, but a couple hours is no problem. You did a good job with your video providing good info. My 3pt blower is a Kubota which looks similar to your front mount, I believe they are made by Ber Vac / Blizard.

With as long as our driveway was, the front mount made a ton of sense. The other factor was that, while I (Jack) do most of the snow removal, if I was away on a work trip, the front mount is easy enough to use that Jackie can pull it out and get a path cleared.

I live North of Toronto. We usually get a fair bit of snow. 2 acres with a walkout basement and property slopes every which way to get to the backyard. Last summer I bought a BX-2380. I got a 2618 front blower. There are 4 hydraulic lines and they are operated with the regular joystick. Blower up, down and float and chute left and right. The chute tilt is electric. A lot cheaper than hydraulic and so far has been reliable. I have a 5 foot blade on the back with a quick attach hitch. The blade is very handy close to the house or cars but you do have to remember how far behind you it is. No chains and tires are not loaded. I keep the bucket in the garage but with the quick attach I could likely change from blower to bucket in about 10 minutes. Love the setup.

Front blades are nice but unfortunately with 900ft of driveway and trees on both sides, we need to throw the snow into the woods. Otherwise it won’t be wide enough if a fire truck or ambulance had to make it up.

Great video, very well done and a good insightful review, thank you. Not a criticism, but I noticed when leaving and coming back to the house you started and ended on the outside of the driveway. I haven't read all the comments so not sure if it has been mentioned before. A word of advice to make your snow removal easier and more efficient. When clearing the yard or driveway, always start in the middle and work your way out from there. This will save you having to move some of that snow twice. I used to do this for highways maintenance for many years and I know from experience that you'll automatically do what works best for your yard once you develop a pattern that works best for your situation. Everybody wants to do it as efficiently as possible.LOL Thanks again for an excellent review! Nice machine!
@TheMindfulHomestead

With the 55” blower, we are able to do the full width in one pass down and one pass back up. With the ruts as bad as they are, a pass down the middle would scoop a lot of dirt.

@@TheMindfulHomestead I was referring more to the wide apron in front of the garage that tapers down to the driveway more than the driveway itself which I see is adequately done in two passes. Yeah nothing like having the driveway all covered in compact snow to make things a whole lot easier on both you and the machine. Also by that time all of those little hidden treasures are gone by that time. I haven't taken out a shear pin in quite some time, sure nice to not have kids and dogs in the yard to drop those little surprises. LOL
@TheMindfulHomestead
@TheMindfulHomestead 4 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. Unfortunately, our house is on one side of the apron, so I usually just blow down one side of the apron, blowing the snow away from the house, and then I blow across the apron and shoot it directly ahead into the woods. You can see the pattern here at about the 1:30 mark. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/irRkhpaJsprdhI0.html

I have this same tractor and snowblower, but I also have the angle plow that swaps on and off the same mount the snowblower uses. I have a 1200' dirt driveway and found the snowblower is great for clearing it, but then you have to swap to the plow blade (3-4 minutes) to to get the last 1" of snow that the blower leaves behind, The plow works great, and you don't get the snow blowback like you do with the plow. When you have the snowblower on and the bucket loader off it takes me about 20-30 minutes to swap from one to the other. I would like to buy the bobcat quick attach hyd blade, so I could leave the loader setup on the tractor and easily swap out the bucket, fork lift or plow. The blower is powerful and has no issue going through the plow snow at the end of the driveway.

Great video right to the point. Couple quick questions: 1) How does it work going through the mound of heavy snow at the end of your driveway where the road plows have come by? 2) Would your tractor start on a very cold morning (also in New Hampshire) if it were not stored in a garage? - Thanks for your help!

We’ve never had an issue with it in the mound of snow at the end of the driveway. If there are huge ice chunks in there it can mess up a shear pin, but otherwise it’s all good. We very rarely store it in the garage, and our garage is not heated. It has never not started.

Dave Z There’s footage from a few days of blowing in the video. I have the skids set up to always leave some snow behind so I’m not scraping up the gravel from the driveway and shooting it into the woods. On an asphalt driveway, you can drop the cutting edge down and scrape it totally clean.

Your video popped up on my sidebar so I watched it. I have a Massey GC 1720 and I just picked up the snowblower for it. It was expensive, and my wife was upset, but I said when I bought the tractor that I'd be getting the blower for it as well. Mine came without skid shoes. And it eats a ton of dirt as I'm on gravel as well. I need to make some skidshoes like yours has. What I can say about my blower is that I can take the blower off and put the loader back on while the front mount PTO is still in place. Makes the tractor still useful if I want to grab something with the bucket or pallet forks but still be ready for snow. Nice review. Appreciated it.

I have a BX2380 and I found a F2450 front mount snow blower for 250.00. Going to pick it up tomorrow, a too good to be true deal. I am not gonna mount it the standard Kubota boat load of $$ way. I am going to make a quick connect mount for my FEL and mount her out there. The quick connect mount will have a mount on upper left for a riding lawn mower engine. I'll fab it all up and do what I have to do to get it working. If the engine turns the "wrong" way I'll remove the rear gearbox and make a bearing supported shaft that takes a belt or chain with proper size pulley or sprockets for the right RPM. If I don't need the gearbox I can probably sell it for twice what I paid the for snowblower. Be so much nicer then pushing the snow with a blade. What a pain. Me welder/fabricator/machinist retired so yes, I can do this. maybe I'll make a video lol...

Nice review. I'm on the fence to get the front blower vs the rear one. I have plans for both but will have to settle on one before the snow arrives. I see you have no weights but chains on the back. How does it work with that combo?
@TheMindfulHomestead
@TheMindfulHomestead 4 жыл бұрын
As of now it’s working fine. We have the rear tires filled and the snowblower pushes through the snow, and doesn’t lift anything, so the rear end stays down. Kubota designed these blowers for the BX line and it shows in their relatively light weight. With a blade on the back it might be a little less bouncy when moving around with the blower lifted, but I haven’t run into any issues once the chains were put on.

We are about 800’ long. It’s a dirt/gravel drive, and the speed depends entirely on how much snow and what consistency it is. Usually I can have the driveway itself cleared in 15-30 minutes. The kicker is if it’s an early storm or branches have fallen and I have to start changing out shear pins. Then it takes longer.
@hilohaw
@hilohaw 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheMindfulHomestead Ah, okay, thank you. That's very useful information. I have about a quarter mile of dirt/gravel, forested road to clear, but that would still extrapolate to about 25-50 minutes, all other things being equal. Supposed to take delivery of my bx2380 with the 55”front mount setup you have and have a level gravel driveway, should I be prepping to retrofit the cutting edge with a piece of pipe to avoid throwing too much gravel from my driveway to my lawn? I realize I’ll have to lower the feet at first and I typically leave a bit of snow with the plow on my atv for something to pack down as a base at the start of winter...just a little nervous about it as I’ve heard of this cutting edge issue from others as well. Thanks in advance

My work has a different, more popular, snow blower attachment. Ours sucks, it only throws the snow a few feet, chute gets clogged easily with heavy snow, and keeps breaking shear pins every snowstorm. Around 3 pins a day. Ours is very similar, except ours seems to be junk.

I have the exact same equipment with a backblade. I bought them three years ago for my northern Minnesota driveway, which is not nearly so long as yours. Most of the time, it cuts my snow removal time by 75%. I had to stop paying a guy to plow it, because he kept piling it up in the only places where it could drain away when it thawed, so water would collect by the house and get into the basement. The front loader is much better for moving heavy snow, and it leaves less on our blacktop driveway, but by now, the piles are too high for the loader, and I need to throw the snow over them; I share your problem that it's not convenient to swap between the two implements as needed, so the blower stays on all winter once installed. I am surprised you left the fork on the front of the chute. When the snow is wet, it just creates backups in the chute. I took it off, and simply avoid sticking my hand in the chute while the tractor is running. It's also less than optimal on some steep slopes. As you begin the descent or crest the peak, the blower won't sit down on the pavement. That's where I need to use the backblade to pull snow down to a flatter part of the driveway.
@TheMindfulHomestead
@TheMindfulHomestead 4 жыл бұрын

For taking snow off my long gravel driveway with a backblade, I rigged up a simple pair of snowplow "shoes" to keep the blade up just a bit -- similar to your snow blower's shoes but I opted for cast mushroom style (rather than sled or slipper type yours has). Made the holding rig from pipe and square tubing, attached by using longer plow bolts on the back of the back blade edge. Works pretty well.....

You made a good purchase with the Kubota product. What is more important than the brand is the dealer and after sale service. After working as a mechanic for John Deer and New Holland dealers i have come to the conclusion that they are almost all good equipment if used as they were intended. Now the most important thing is the dealer. Will they answer questions OR always tell you to bring it in for service. Are they willing to give you tips or not??? While working as a mechanic for John Deer and New Holland i would give customers tips and tricks on how to better use their machine. Tips i would get from other customers that had similar equipment an pass it down to others. If a dealer is not willing or ready to help and advise you in small maters? Change dealer! Here is a story that happened to me as a JD road service mechanic. I was sent to this customer for a seemingly problem with his lawn tractor. I get there and checked the problem and found non. I redo the inspection to make sure and tell him that it looks ok. He then tells me i know! All he wanted to know is if we the dealer were ready to road service a lawn tractor. Oh he payed for the road service, he also bought and traded for 1.5million dollars worth of JD equipment after my service call.He wanted to know if we were ready to do what was needed for the customer after the sale.
