YOU are drinking the proverbial KOOL-AID. Here is why we use this euphemism. You're at a moment in time, not unlike the moment in November 1978 when "reverend" Jim Jones sat in the middle of his congregation in Guyana speaking on a microphone to roughly 900 people while his employees mixed up large quantities of grape-flavored Kool-Aid in disgustingly dirty garbage cans. The congregation of lost souls were given cups of cyanide and Valium laced KOOL-AID. Jones continued to speak as entire families laid on the ground together and perished. Some of them could see what was happening, and so they ran into the jungle and escaped their ultimate fate. Jim Jones was one of the last individuals to "perish" that day. In the following days, the news covered this massive tragedy. I watched this as it unfolded on television and was shocked and dismayed. Ever since then, any time people appear to foolishly follow a cult leader until the bitter end, they are said to be drinking the Kool-Aid. You obviously are.
