HUGE trailer fire! | A Day In The Life of an OTR Trucker
Just another typical day in the life of an over the road truck driver... Just kidding! This trip was anything but typical. I was on my way back to SLC, UT when I drove up on a trailer fire! BKM got out and used my fire extinguisher to try and help put out the flames, but that didn't work so I called in the fire fighters. No one was hurt in the making of this video, thankfully. Big shout out to the Oregon State Troopers and North Powder Rural Fire Dept. for responding quickly, and handling the scene proficiently.

As a retired vol fire/rescue and EMS worker for 35 years, I’ve seen a lot. But one of the most dangerous things you can do is to be on the side of the road at accident scene. So you be extra careful in the future. I don’t want you to get hurt. May I suggest you get a reflective vest or coat you could throw on in an emergency. That would help you to be seen. I applaud you for helping out. Not many people do that anymore. If I’m ever broken down on the side of the road, I could only hope you’d be the one who’d stop to help! Keep up the vids. *Your cameraman is really a pro, making your journey exciting!* *I thought to mention, the trucks wheel on fire, was really something, but you might want to put a reflective vest on so the oncoming traffic can see you and maybe one of those green stick lights that can be attached to your jacket...* *thank God the firemen were able to put the fire out...one incredible seen and thank you for helping the truck driver. P.S. the scenery of the journey is breathtaking, people don't need to travel overseas, we here in the United States have it all, we're one blessed country!* *Thanks again for the video!*

Awesome to see you stopping to help. I would recommend you get some tactical flashlights that have the strobe feature for it will make it easier for people to see you. I would also recommend getting roadside flares because the only time the reflectors work is when they are hit with light. Flares, especially in this situation with all the smoke, can be seen whether light hits them or not. Might also help to have a reflective vest with battery powered strobes attached so people can see you as you're laying the triangles and flares out. I have all this in my roadside kit in my jeep I would highly recommend you do the same. Good to see everyone was okay and it didn't get worse than it did.

This is why every truck driver needs to have a good working CB radio in their truck. It can be used as a tool to talk with other drivers when bored or in this case, warn other drivers of what's going on ahead. Too many drivers out there nowadays don't even have one in their truck. I can't tell you how many times my CB has saved me while out on the road. Good on you for stepping up and helping out any way you could. Not many drivers now would even stop. They'd just keep going and take a video of it with their phone while driving by.

We use old truck wheels for campfires at the beach that last all weekend. The wind won't blow it out once the magnesium starts, nearly impossible to extinguish either a Halon extinguisher or bury it in sand to deplete the oxygen. The brakes probably got hot which ignited the gear oil in the hubs, which started the tire burning which then created enough heat to ignite the magnesium wheel, all easily extinguished except for the wheel. Thus the reason most companies use steel wheels on their trailers to protect their loads. If you've got aluminum(magnesium) wheels on the trailer and they ignite, get that truck uncoupled and away from the trailer a couple hundred feet, grab some marshmallows and enjoy s'mores while you text the insurance company that your going to flip burgers at McDonald's for your next job....😂👍

It’s nice to see the stop and help attitude in other young people!! That’s how my family raised me and my sister, we’d always roll down windows on the highway if someone’s hood wasn’t down right or if someone was hauling a camper with a door open or something. When you take the five minutes to stop and help that will stick with you and with them for a long time and will always come back around ☺️

My dad is and has been an OTR Trucker for about 30+ years! I love the truck and grew up in one most of my "pre education" life! One thing that my dad really mentions is that the old school way of trucking has changed. He says that if someone would break down, it seemed like you had a line up of men/women wanting to help. I worry about him a lot of the time BUT it really great to see that there is still kind and caring individuals looking out not only for other truckers but my old man!! Thanks for sharing this video !!

She may not consider herself this, but she seems like a great recruiting person for the trucking industry... and right now people are really realizing how important the truckers are! Truckers are the heroes in this country right now and finally people are realizing how important they really are. Great video, so much beauty you can witness on the road and it was really awesome how you stepped up to assist at the trailer fire. You have a really great cameraman and thank you for your service!

@@waynelandry9000 i'm thinking that's far more likely. if he was on the brakes, surely his truck brakes would go first as they do, being that the trailer brakes aren't as strong/the power favours the truck brakes over the trailer. For obvious reason :)

I've always enjoy these videos: from the banter between Shelby and Dakota, to the music that plays as they hit the road, stops/break time, as well as the Q&A's. I can't forget to mention the insight we get concerning the aforementioned KZfaqr's backstory (which makes us want to know more about them). Everyone should take a page out of Shelby's book (stopping to help and not speeding past a truck that is on fire).

Forwarding on a couple of ideas. 1 - Have a second vest that you “pair” over the top of your jacket (slightly dorky) so it’s always there. 2 - get some reflective stripes (not necessarily hi-vis) to strategically place (back, sleeves, etc). Not super obvious, but definitely better than nothing

It's so nice to see people stopping to help their fellow humans. In this case, a trucker helping a trucker, but it's beyond trucking. It's one human helping another human in need. I'm so glad everyone is ok. That fire got super intense and large! Thank you Bodi, for attempting to extinguish the fire BEFORE grabbing the camera. You also put another humans need before your own, and I respect that. Props to both of you!!! You probably saved some traffic lives at least by providing visibility......

Bub Zilla absolutely. We made sure to everything we could to help (use fire extinguisher and call 911) before the camera was even a thought. I’ll never understand the thought of recording video before helping another person. That’s beyond my morals and against my training as a police officer I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️
@bubzilla6137
@bubzilla6137 4 жыл бұрын
@@socal87border True that! I'm not a police officer, nor do I have any of that kind of training, but I do have a mom who instilled the same moral values. I never understood people who record instead of helping either..... That upsets me actually. So selfish. Thanks again for all you do, bro! You're truly appreciated... 🙂🙂🙂
