Was the M1 Pro chip an old design in a parallel universe? (Also, 120 Hz XDR/HDR ProMotion display, and supports up to 4 external displays). The ports are nice, though. It's funny to see an Apple laptop with an HDMI port. It seemed like every generation they'd provide a different video out connector, and then no video out connector. Now, if the prices weren't so cray-zee high....

I would have bought one had the camera notch at the top of the screen been larger. By making it such a small rectangle, it gives me the feeling that the just didn't care as much as they should have about what *I* want.

For the latest few models, they ditched the function keys for a touch bar. I didn't interpret this as bragging about function keys, but announcing that they were returning them due to customer demand.

That magsafe is so underrated in this presentation. We finally don't have to throw perfectly fine bricks when the cable is frayed and just replace the cable. I literally spend $500 on these bricks in the past 9 years.

I like the Touch Bar. I hope they keep the Touch Bar for the Air since it’s intended for average customers instead of professionals. Average people would rather have a custom touch than Fx buttons that they use rarely

lol. the touch pad is still best of its class even up to now. other laptops can't even compare to the feel and accuracy that the macbook's touchpad give. There's just this unique feeling when using the touch pad that you don't feel on other laptops. This is coming from someone who owns a macbook and multiple laptops. why fix something that's perfectly working?

I think a lot of people fail to realize that pro machines aren’t for college kids or your average consumer. Apple is finally going back to serving 2 different groups instead of trying to make one device to satisfy all needs. The more professional look, higher specs, and price gap are all there for a reason! There are great devices for all users now and with the 16 inch, far less compromises to be made for the prosumer market.

Final someone who gets it. If you are into photo, video and music editing this is for you. All other work such as engineering, manufacturing, aerospace, etc or gaming there is Windows, Linux, and to a point Google Chrome books I guess. If Apple really wanted to aim this at other markets they would have showed that on there website.

You know they will be bought by the same spoiled yoga pants to unleash all their potential by browsing facebook and scrolling through instagram feeds? There aren't that much true professionals on the market to utilize these machines to their full potential. Pros rarely work on the go - they usually need special equipment and large displays to do their work. MBPs were never trully for the pros - just for wannabes with excessive amounts of money.

I’m constantly working with 2D and 3D softwares and occasionally do videography and desperately need a computer upgrade. Planning to hook it up to a dual external monitors setup at home and also bring it along to school. It’s the perfect use case for me.

I agree, except I think the 2016 one was a fail. The keyboard feel sucked, the touchbar was too gimmicky, magsafe was just.. better, which is why they brought all this stuff back. I'm actually considering upgrading when my 2015 15" dies.

You either have a larger screen within the same form factor but with a notch or you have a larger overall form factor with a larger screen without a notch or you keep everything the same as before. Take your pick among these alternatives but stop complaining about how basic physics works.

I think Apple knows who their customers really are. There was one still image where they showed an iPhone and MacBook and iPad and there was a picture of a girl playing guitar and there were chord diagrams below her showing how to play the chords and it look like a cool music app but I don’t know what it is. And I tried to go back and scrub through it about seven times and still couldn’t find that image. If anybody knows what app that is and could tell me I would appreciate it. Thanks.

A crazily roided out M1 chip, But also a ton of other small and big improvements, Much better speakers that were already fantastic on last gen, better Microphone array, Actually good Web cam, but by far the biggest is a crazy good display much better then any previous mac. 1,000,000:1 contrast, 120HZ adaptive refresh rate, 1600 Nits peak brightness, better color accuracy and more colors. These are probably the most actually Pro, of Pro note books.

earlier this year i upgraded from my 2012 mid MBP 13 inch (upgraded ram & ssd) to the m1 pro. Insanely worth it. Right away i noticed the speed and was actually able to have multiple browsers without worry. That m1 chip really is worth the hype. Also, was literally half the weight & super super long battery life. don’t even have to worry about charging it when i’m at school. if you ain’t want one of these, last years air or pro is a good alternative. & don’t forget apple stops updating macs after 8 years, only security updates.

Comparing specs and price, the entry level 14" macbook pro is most comparable with the XPS 15 OLED (2021). If hands-on reviews for the 14inch are really good-- it might not look good for the XPS.

@@robertleidner9703 It does. Not because of the resolution but because of the videos and movies that are either 1080p or 4K. There is no in between quad hd (which would be ideal).

A new 14" or 16" MacBook Pro all decked out with all the bells and whistles and all the RAM one can ask for would be awesome but it currently does not fit in either the "want" or "need" categories for me. I'm going to keep my MacBook Air and my seven year old PC for the time being.

Intel Released Kaby Lake G January 7, 2018 which did something similar back then. Looks like the idea of high performance graphics and cpu on a single die are finally getting a run for its money from Apple on the new M1 Pro. Kaby Lake G = Radeon RX Vega M GH 24 Compute Units and M1 Pro = 14 or 16 GPU cores . Would be kinda cool to see a benchmark for gaming graphics on the old Kaby Lake G and the new M1 Pro side by side

Those who complaining about notch The screen is MiniLED display with 120hz screen And guess what… using dark mode and some darker wallpaper literally hide those notch better Since the dark pixel were also black as OLED screen, but with some blooming

Based on the presentation does this mean that on the previous generation the i7 was the best processor for the MacBook pro? Otherwise they would have compared it to the M1 MacBook pro, right?

If you watches the whole event you would’ve seen that the M1 max is way beyond the M1, let alone any laptop processor- it’s actually quiet amazing lol

@@galah_pie I'm sure it is. I'm just wondering if the fact that they are comparing the new processor to the i7 means that the best in the previous lineup was the i7 and not the M1. It seems logical that you would compare your new awesome processor to the best in the previous lineup, otherwise any improvement wouldn't be that much of an improvement if you compare it with the worst in previous line. It could be that it's at best just like the previous best or it could even be worse. And if apple were to say that in the previous line the i7 were the best, well that would be an even bigger event than the launch of the new models. :))

Why can't Apple add 2 rollable screens on the left and right side that extend out so we can have a widescreen on a Macbook Pro? And also, add 2 motorized legs on the bottom of the Macbook Pro that extend out, so we can adjust our typing angle on a hard surface? And have a motorized notch that pops up when we open the laptop, and also a setting where we can hide the camera for privacy, and use the same idea on the iPhone too for privacy.
