Before I breastfed myself, the pictures I saw in the media (about moms breastfeeding) were all beautiful. In my 3rd trimester, I saw an influencer post a picture about her problems with breastfeeding and saying she had to abandon it because she was suffering too much. This was the first "negative" case I ever saw about breastfeeding. And it seemed so RARE to me that I ignored it (little did I know). Even when I was making this video, I could NOT find any pictures or stock footage with a mom struggling to latch their baby or position their baby or feed their baby. It all seems happy and dandy. But that is not how it always goes. My story about breastfeeding/nursing was almost traumatic. I wish someone had told me to seriously prepare to breastfeed instead of me figuring out things as I went (that made it all more stressful). I did not know what mastitis was until I was weak, tired, and struggling with fevers. I did not know there were things that could help relieve my nipple pain until I could not bare the pain anymore, and my lactation specialist recommended I buy gel pads. I wish I knew these things I tell you in this video so I could have had a more successful experience. Filming and editing these videos is HARD (I cry behind the camera many times). Still, it almost feels like a duty to tell all the moms out there that breastfeeding is not always beautiful, is not always easy, is not always gentle, is not always doable, and is not always possible. AND THAT'S OKAY! Your baby will still love you and respect you! All that matters is that your baby is fed and that you are healthy!
