He talks about the old pension. In 1972, Labour changed our thinking to a save as go scheme. ( Roger Douglas was part of this). National changed things back to pay as you go. This continued until Helen Clark (Labour) introduced Kiwi Saver and super fund. In 2009 National did put money into super fund and changed Kiwi Saver (reduced it). Labour has put the required amount into super fund. National and Act want to stop funding it. It clear that parties to right don't understand the best way to go.

ACT need to recall Roger Douglas saying the Old Age Pension is a social contract. Governments in NZ need to fully fund and agreed age is 65.
@joachimpetersen23019 ай бұрын
The government won't be able to sustain a pension if the retirement age remains at 65. There simply isn't enough workers coming up compared to the amount of people retiring. You can say immigration will fix that. It may for a bit, but it's not a long term solution. The retirement age has to go up slightly.
@adsdft5859 ай бұрын
@@joachimpetersen2301 This is why the 1972 policy was the correct choice. But National scrapped the idea. The superfund and kiwi saver changed idea of pay as you go to save as you go. So you clearly highlight a failing of National Governments and their partner parties. When NZ First was part of a National government in the 1990s it proposed save as you go scheme but National rejected it .
@greencloud22259 ай бұрын
@@adsdft585 so now is time to fix it. My fathers generation died in their 70's.our generation are living 80 plus. Raising retirement age to 67 over a few years is a sensible policy

Does Act think State Houses are good for society? During the period 1993 to 2023 National and its partners reduced the number of state houses by 12,000 . However, Labour and its partners added 17,000 state houses. Now we have 75,000 state houses. Our population has increased to 5.3 million from 3.7 million in 1991. But the number of state houses has not increased in proportion. National and its partner parties not thinking ahead.

This man has no idea about people who suffer mental and addiction illness. I work in a mh and addictions unit and marginalising, dehumanising and micro-managing people in these situations is just going to erode their confidence even more. Go and visit a few clinics that deal with these conditions David. You might learn something. It's the responsibility of us all to help and care for those who may not be able to care for themselves. These conditions are illnesses; just like diabetes, heart disease etc. These people are sick, not lazy! Many live homeless, vulnerable lives. Have some compassion. Yes, great interview Kerre. 👍

@@camarameroo90 ok some of the policies are firm, if you pay a lot of tax you don't want it going to support someone on a benefit who is quite capable of doing a few hours or full time per week. Businesses are needing more workers and will pay good wages for those who work well and or can be trained to gain a skill through employment. More future for training while you work than sitting at home going nowhere.

If National ( right wing( not reduced the number of state houses by 12,000 and had built at half rate Labour built state house we would have about 20,000 more state house. The only narcissists are the left who think they know better than everyone and dictate to others. They also patronise & talk down to people & those who disagree with them are always wrong/evil. Narcissists have trouble having any self awareness. The far left are a very good case study of this. They think everyone is there to validate their existence. You can see how they always yell & talk down to people with a different opinion.
