I think Yahtzee just sold this to me better than Ubisoft did.

Ubisoft: "Look, we've just given up on creating a compelling main character, here's a framework of a few randomly generated ones with some bulletpoints for backstory, just fill in the rest of it yourself"

It sounds like that touched up dialogue from that one supporting character really redeems the whole thing, and whoever made that happen should be praised for carrying this game on their shoulders.

Im fairly certain if you position the jaffa cakes right, you cant win a game of air hockey against it.

For once in my life, I actually finished this game before Yahtzee did the review I agree with both points, both the spider bot and making your own story. I felt that I was relying on the spider bot quite heavily early on and vowed never to use it unless forced otherwise in which case I immediately found myself relying entirely on either Hitmen or Spys. Regardless, my character arch was with Emmet Flanagan, legendary hitman.

There's always one frame that makes me laugh out loud, and "carry on citizen" wins that title this week

The character recruitment system seems cooler when you consider it an expansion on the earlier games, where you could scan anyone in the overworld and receive a quick blurb about their lives and kinks.

The concept of recruiting people was a pretty good idea but I do agree it makes the story awfully generic. Hopefully Ubisoft doesn't completely scrap the concept and tries to improve it in a future title.

The fact that randos on the street are just chill to join your super secret paramilitary organization just makes the game more camp and funny to me. That some rando 78 year old homeless man is down to join a resistance cell and engage in industrial espionage is goofy as fuck and I love it in that campy goofy way.

When I played Legion I kept thinking “Bagley is the best part of the game”. Now I know why I think that.

As I was playing, I was thinking Bagley has a very similar sarcastic, with tone to Yahtzee... and whaddya know! If only they didn’t cut a lot of his stuff, I bet they were the best ones.

Mu biggest question when it comes to the game is, why does almost every other person you scan have access to a firearm? I thought London/ UK had extreme gun control laws (least to an American). And yet almost every bar owner or lawyer I scan has a freaking assault rifle! Or even better a grenade launcher!

I love doing missions as an Albion person in uniform. It's hilarious when the cutscences have the quest giver saying "That'll show Albion!!" to someone in full albion uniform :-)

I was pretty harsh on this one when I first started playing it (I love WD2, sue me), but I won’t lie. It can be pretty fun. Missions are pretty fun when you ignore the spider drone and the New Game + is nice to have. Hopefully the online adds a bit more depth tho, because the story is pretty dull.

This all things considered has been a surprisingly positive review.

Don't know about everyone else here, but I'm looking forward to his reviews of Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

My personal highpoint was winning barenucle boxing matches with an old lady dressed like one of the golden girls

I actually put off watching this because I didn't want my fun spoiled. Couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised! Not only does Yaht capture the essence of WDL perfectly, but I can't believe he's behind the witty banter of the AI!

Not gonna lie the AI from the game was pretty damn well punched up

Got the game last night. Decided to take a shot every time the AI said something I suspect yahtzee would have added. I was plastered about 2 hours in.

Good to see that basically this whole channel is still kept alive by one dude.

"Even if the enemies spot [the spider drone], blow it up, and start hunting around for its controller, as long as you're outside the building you can stand in front of their windows with two middle fingers up and your knob pressed up against the glass, and they won't do sh*t." X'D I expect to see this line in a quote compilation one day.

Also Ubisoft turns a blind eye and covers up for verbal, physical and sexual abuse of its employees by head management.

Honestly it feels like Ubisoft has no idea what to do with the franchise. They do improve with every game but it does feel somewhat disjointed

For being a game with an infinite amount of playable characters, it seems that everyone basically used the same combination of dudes. Starting with the free construction worker.

I had an old man that I recruited early on when i saved him from an Albion soldier. His only quality other than being slow was he had an MP5 sub machine gun. I used him for a lot of the heavy combat missions. I called him the old senile man with a gun and I pretended he was angry all the time (even though he had the biggest smile I had ever seen in an NPC in that game. The game ended up automatically picking him for part of one of the final missions. My crazy grumpy old man ended up having a touching bit of dialogue with the AI at the very end. My old angry senile guy ended up being the most wholesome character in the end

There was a moment where I completed an optional mission in this game and the AI character said the line "I guess it's back to knob jokes then" and I sincerely hope that was one of Yahtzee's lines because it sure sounds like something he'd say.

In the possessive tense, DEDSEC sounds like the name of a necrophilia cult we don't know actually exists yet. Remember that purple acid reflux pill we named after a sex trafficking cult we didn't know existed until Smallville became relevant again?

I LOVE CRAZY MILDRED THE NAILGUN MURDERER. Laughed so hard because that looks just like my grandma, and we just helped her remodel her house, requiring a nailgun.

I've been enjoying it. They seem to have finally patched up the game and it doesn't crash anymore on my PC. The best part is definitely the Bagley AI dialogue. It just seems better than all the other written dialogue. Strange, don't know why.

LOLed at the imp clusters, the Stormtrooper imps, the credits thing, and this one: 1. Hang around Westminster Bridge 2. Get stuck in animation loop 3. Clip into wall

Let's not forget that any recruitment mission means fast traveling to the other side of the map to do 1 trivial thing, then fast traveling to another to do another trivial thing, which means fast traveling back to tell the person you did the 2 trivial things and want them to join your club. Hurray loading screens.

The description of his 2 characters might be the strongest endorsement of an Ubisoft sandbox Yahtzee has ever given.

'It's as satisfying as winning a game of air hockey against a packet of jaffa cakes.' Considering I have a gift of managing to get the air hockey puck in my own goal every time I touch it, I'd be pretty satisfied if I managed to beat something else at the game, even if it's inanimate.

That construction worker is like the tutorial mission survivor from XCOM:Enemy within (he's garunteed to pass the psi-ops test and can be the guy who crashes the mothership).

I never touched the spider drone, I never upgraded it, at most I used the stationary drone, but only as a defensive options when things go south and for collectibles, never for objectives. My play-style was "Execution dominance". Most of my characters needed to have a custom handgun like a revolver or a deagle, but I never actually shot any bullets outside animations, all I was doing, was running up in stealth or loud to enemies and just takedown them, or melee them with fists, equip gun, then execute them to assert dominance. The fun grew exponentially when I've got a hitman, as they can takedown if a weapon is equipped even if they spot you. I was just blazing through every single outpost, executing every single one of them and I think in my last 7 hours of gameplay, I have used only the electroshock grenade launcher for drones, I have fired 0 bullets outside the execution animations. Also I've played with elders, and that was amazing. I had a lot of fun *10/10*

The last minute of this episode made me laugh harder than I have in a while, good show

I have an idea. For the next Ubisoft review, take random clips from your previous video reviews and make a collage to see how many notices the difference

Coming back to it, I realised one thing: wouldn't it have been better if the character recruitment system was more like, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker or V instead? Or hell, even Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. That way, instead of the protagonists being random characters with zero plot, there could have been a few main characters, and every recruit provide bonuses (like research points for upgrades) or be used for side "operations" to earn money, materials or whatever.

I want to dislike this game, as it's yet another Ubisoft sandbox, but the very idea of violent grannies in stupid hats brings a smile to my face.

I'm having WAAAAY more fun with WD:L than I should have. It's funny cuz I spent extra money for the CE which comes with OP operatives with powerful skills...and I still just cycle between the Construction Worker, Albion Captain, and Clan Kelly Captain. I tend to use the Turret Spider Droid so I have a companion in a firefight.

I like how immediately from the first few lines of dialogue of the AI support character, I could tell Yahtzee wrote it. One of the first things it says is “there’s a F*CKLOAD of data in room above you” in the same accent

what's funny is that the only operator ive had from the start of the game till the end...was the construction worker I had to recruit

I got the spider drone as the first mandatory upgrade in the tutorial for the upgrades and gadgets. 75% of all operatives I recruited now started with the spider pre-equiped as their gadget except the one or two Assault Rifle carrying who got the one-hit electric mines or one-hit shock fist. The game was quite a breeze unless I intentionally challenged myself, even then the Auto-Hide enemy bodies to avoid alerting other guards made stealth even easier especially when using the spider as it can do that as well, just not automatically. tl;dr avoid the spider drone or (many other gadget and upgrades for that matter) if you want anything close to challenge. Also play on Ironman, unlike me who only died twice, one had Deathwish trait and the other was the mandatory story death at the start.

These videos still crack me up everytime. That last minute was gold.

I got bored a few hours into playing WDL after a few hours of play but you've inspired me to give it another go so I can make backstories for my characters.

The last minute of this video did more to make me want to try this game than any other advertisement I have seen for it.

You can recruit enemies, though it is harder to do so, and they'll still be wearing their uniform when they're recruited, allowing them to enter restricted areas without alerting the guards, unless you get too close.

this was _close_ to the usual faux angry critique, but you definitely went easier on this one. still cool that you got to help on the game though _random emote just cause_

I'm so glad you're Bagley, also this game is a blast honestly. I'm have such a cockadoodin' good time with it! I have my main character, I spend the most money on him for the best clothes and everyone else is just there to make sure he's outta jail fast, stitched up quickly and occasionally finds hidden masks for him while I wait for the arrest timer.

I've been watching NerdCubed play this and he's established some characters from his recruits. There Enid his chavvy starter, his first recruit Yannis the royal guard, "Baron Microtransactions" the hitman who died the same episode he gained his moniker, Anne the campaign mandated builder who got knocked out in a fighting ring so Dan made that person's life a misery before accidentally killing him, Captain Warcrimes the Albion captain, Drone Santa and Lady Lootbox, among others. Both the Baron & Lady Lootbox are dressed in the fancy knight superhero outfits.

Watch as the series slowly goes more and more into saints row silliness. I’ll totally go for the next game if they start playing that up. So far not quite intrigued yet though

Honestly, I think this game works despite a central main character. I’m the type who ends up having a lot of fun filling in the gaps myself, and when I found my favorites, I ended up with a duo consisting of an old guard English gentleman who’s the leader of this reborn branch of deadsec, and a member of the enemy faction that got won over by him who’s competent enough, but is still getting used to “playing for the other team” now, leading to a very lovely charismatic mentor vs straight man dynamic between the two. I also hired the latter’s mum into the group and she proceeded to seduce the contact her son couldn’t. Let’s see Ubisoft write that.

Looks like the spiderbot is in the same league as the deadly gun (and ammo) magic 3D printer in WD2. A crutch Ubisoft seems to want so much to rely in.

Honestly. That last minute. Made the game sound so much more fun then anything else I've played this year.
