I'm in Chicago, and while flooding is not as severe, I feel the same way. They're more concerned about adding more bike lanes in a city that has four seasons in one week.

Not a surprise. Money got diverted to homelessness and other social welfare programs as well as the debt from COVID 19 pandemic. Hopefully, there are no dead bodies of homeless people who moved and blocked the storm drains....Oh yeah, the cities are responsible to check and clean the storm drains and etc...PS Non STEM Degree in the military controlling the weather?

The City actually just finished upgrading the drains in that area. The problem is all of the trash that accumulates. No drain will ever work well when it is clogged with trash and you can thank the homeless garbage people in the area for making this problem worse.

I bet you that is not the draining. Are the nasty people that dumped thrash in the ground.

A lot easier said than done. Have to redo all the below ground infrastructure. prohibitively expensive

Some areas had 3 inches of rain. Mountain View had 3 inches of rain. There was high level flooding near 42nd street.

The drain was blocked and covered up by trash and debris. This is the case for most of the areas with flooding. We need to be better at clearing out the drains regularly.

@@JSM. I lived in California over a decade ago for several years, moved away for a few, & then moved back again about 5 years ago. It never rained like this when I lived here in the past. You can deny climate change all you want, but that doesn’t make it any less real or impactful.

Because it is just rain and people should know how to drive and behave. People should also pick up after themselves so storm drains don't get blocked as they did in this intersection. There is no need to close ANYTHING because it is a waste of time and resources just to cater to a few lazy people who are afraid of rain or don't know how to drive in those conditions.

@@kendrahansen1175 This is San Diego County, CA, I've been living here for a while, & what you just stated won't happen. They don't know how to drive when it is dry, so they definitely can't do it when it rains. Unfortunately, littering is a problem here. Also, some of these drains were clogged because city and/or county officials didn't do their jobs removing debris (not trash) as it is their responsibility as government agencies to do so.

Climate change is real and it's happening much quicker than what is to come by 2050. And of course, humans are not helping by all the pollution added into the mix, but keep driving that gas guzzler.

Its a rainstorm, people, and nothing out of the ordinary. Lets not get carried away with the Global Crisis narrative. Even the reporter said "as soon as the storm-drain was cleared, the flooding subsided." Clearing debris from storm drains is the job of the City public works department, so no surprise if the drain gets clogged, the streets won't drain. Easily preventable with on-going maintenance and prevention.

Stop with the fear mongering climate change lies. This is nothing new.

@@515ventures3 I live here now. Have for years. I am not miserable. Thought I should add, I am not wealthy. It is expensive here, which sucks…but I still wouldn’t want to move someplace else.
